karkand 8/17
i commanded karkand for usmc right before it switched over to passworded. It was my second time commanding karkand and i think i learned some stuff. I had a squad early on take the bridge and i had 2 or 3 (i forgot how many) trying to take the NW. My plan was to take the NW and bridge, then crunch in on the front 2 bases from 2 directions. Next wed hold the bridge like its ww1 again. Problems i think i ran into were that we just couldnt get the NW for the longest time, and then when we got a frontline base i ordered a squad to defend it but they kept leaving
. Also i think we were losing a lot of tickets at the bridge because they were being pounded from the east and the west. I attempted to go across the river but they had 2 apcs, a tank, humvees, and some infantry gaurding it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to assure you get the NW, and how to get across the river if theres that much armor gaurding it?Heh, man i had wulfyn and beatnik as SLs and couldnt win :P |

Re: karkand 8/17
rush it quick and hard and try going into civil war mode as soon as possible. usually sneaking a column of apcs up the west around the main conflict works well.

Re: karkand 8/17
I think you should not go for that bridgepoint. You should go for their homebase first.
Furthermore, you have to take only one base to stop ticketbleeding. If you get more, the opposing team get too concentrated at the east side of the river and it will get very hard to get across. About crossing the river, don't go for sneak attacks, cause you will just be picked up by uav and radar scans. Order your squads to have 2 rpgs in them. Attacking their main base with 4 full squads would result in 8 rpgs. An apc is taken out by two rockets, with a bit of coordination they are destroyed in no-time. Go for that main base, and the moment it's captured give at least half of your squadleaders to spawn their when they die. The opposing team can counter your tactic by having his whole team defending their homebase. If that's the case, just capture all other flags and start rushing their homebase till it falls. You will have a fair chance, especially when using arty right, stealing their tanks, and destroying their assets. If you get their homebase, but someone sneaked trough and starts acting as a mole (as in wack a mole), switch over to the original plan of crushing them from both sides. If you get their homebase the opposing team is likely to pull most of it's troops back to recapture. Then you can get the west side with relative ease. Also, a good defence of you're newly aquired base would be to use your western troops to attack the opponent (the ones attacking your base) from the rear. (It all sounds sooooo simple, I know )

That match started out wierd. I had my squad spawn in that NW corner flag because I had some of them on defense duty at the US main base in Mastuur the whole previous round ... thus I promised more attack action. However when we spawned we saw that not a *single* MEC troop was across the river.... not even one even though pretty much everyone had already spawned. So we redeployed and got over there barely in time to stop some US from making it across. We ended up defending there the whole game and while the squaddies did a great job, I *did* get razzed a good bit for not getting them into attack action like I promised.

Re: karkand 8/17
That was a rough one. My squad was getting mowed down everywhere we went. At the end of the game I was just hoping that little experience 'disaster proofed' my squad for the rest of the nite...
Good job commanding though Santa - I think that was my first time serving with you as CO.

Re: karkand 8/17
I like your style Santa. Quite a few CO's don't talk with their squads, but even the simple question near the beginning asking for my assessment on whether to go across the river or change to the bridge was well received.
We dug in as best as possible, and I thought my squad did a marvellous job of holding that area considering some of the opposition we were up against. We were just holding on for dear life, and then every now and again a squad would wander down from the NW flag and ruin our day. Thanks to my squad for their perseverance in a very tough map. Karkand of all the maps I think is the one that has gone through the most strategic advancement as we all learn how to play it. I've seen the west bank fall in minutes, but sometimes like last night the MEC just dig in and refuse to give up. Yeah, so most of all well done to the MEC team for such a great bitterly fought game. As one of my squaddies said "damn it's like World War 1 in here".
