Karkand Wed 25th 10EST (approx)

Karkand was insane... what a mess that was. I was trying to give commands to my squad over voip and was wondering why no one was really following them, and it was most TG people so I was getting frustrated. Then I realize my microphone was muted on the little dongle thing Oh well... after that it just went downhill... the usmc took the eastern CP's and Tempus had us swarming the east but to no avail... i ended up getting disconnected about 20 tickets from the end. Nice try guys, and sorry about the mic.

Yeah, there was no way we were going to get across that bridge and get our main base back. A mess was an understatement for that map. When I play MEC I'll usually spawn on the east island and hold the SE point to ensure no one else crosses the river there. Well, I didn't do that last night. I spawned NW to guard that flag thinking someone else might cover the river. Oh well, I know for next time to just go with the usual gameplan

Re: Karkand Wed 25th 10EST (approx)

That map was a freaking disaster. I started out as a SL on MEC, but with no commander, I needed to hop in... Only to find that 75% of the team was on the west side!

Squad 2 did an excellent job trying to hold the entire east side by themselves, but it just took too long for other squads to repond to my requests to get them over to the east side to help (whoever was telling me that the NW flag was too important, you're fired!).

Needless to say, we quickly lost the east side, and much to my team's unhappiness I ordered them to take it back at all costs... I know that was a very deadly order, but the MEC WILL NOT WIN without the east side. We had 3 choices: lose slowly only holding the west side, lose faster trying to unsuccessfully take back the east side, or successfully take back the east side. We ended up doing the one in the middle.

Re: Karkand Wed 25th 10EST (approx)

I organized my squad to get across the river as fast as possible. The first attempt failed but I used Legato in an APC as a decoy the 2nd time and made it, even if I did have all MEC armor following me east heh. My squad didn't take the east flag but we did pull all MEC armor to the rear, allowing 2 other squads to make it across the river. 5 mins later, we had all the flags in the east and had 4 squads defending the river on the east side and 2 squads running around in the west. Somehow the MEC repaired the bridge and drove a Vodnik across, but it was quickly destroyed. My squad was defending from the northern out of bounds to the bridge, and man was that intense. Seemed like 5 squads just tried to make a mad dash swimming by the bridge but they just got slaughtered. Then the MEC made 3 attempts to come across the far north with about 2-3 squads each time, but I shifted an APC and 2 guys up there to cover it. So all those attacks were repelled. Seeing as we had the north defended, the MEC sent 2 squads to try and swim far south, but that was squad 2's jurisdiction and they wern't about to let anybody across. After the attempts to the south, it seemed like the MEC just gave up on getting across (finally ) and lined up on the river to keep us at bay. Eventually they just ran out of tickets and it was total victory for the US, somewhere along the lines of 357-0 IIRC. I just want to give a shout out to my squad for doing such a good job, got best US squad on Mushataar and Karkand.
Arf, Duke, Legato, Gixx, and El_Gringo. Good job guys. I know I'm not the strictest squad leader but I hope you had fun.

On a side note - I had Legato defending the bridge in an APC and he was getting hit hard with AT and the APC caught fire so he jumped out and ran off. But I was there before it blew and repaired it fully so I had to yell at him to get back in the APC heh. So sorry Legato, I didn't mean to yell at you but you just ran off lol.

And BTW, Wednesday was the 24th.

Agreed. While boring and repetitive, Karkand really has few options for the defenders. Initially you are bleeding the opposition and as long as you can keep that up, fine. But as soon as you start loosing flags you have to fall back to the east. Remember, you have to control ALL the flags to bleed, so killing the other team from good defensive positions makes more sense than trying to capture lost flags. Now, 'good defensive positions' can include more than the east side of the river, but only if you kill them more than they kill you.

Not this side of the pond, it wasn't. But, then again, it wasn't Wednesday either...

Yeah Dark I'm pretty sure you were squad 3. I was SL of squad 2 (I think) and you guys did great punching a hole, allowing my squad to get across with relatively less resistance and help you take their main base. After that it was just a matter of keeping Tempus' assets down and I knew we had the match won. Great job on fighting to get the East back Tempus - I know all of our squads were really tied up the whole time defending your assaults, and a few guys came close to breaking through. You're right - I think it's next to impossible for any team to win when the other team takes their capturable main base and controls the CO assets.

And great job to my squad for being so flexible and responsive to my ever-changing orders. I was kind of all over the place but you guys executed the COs orders great.

Also I gotta say - seeing DarkViper and B leading other squads on my team was killer - gave me some major confidence when facing the constant assaults of the other team, especially on the Dalian Plant map. That was an unreal battle. Overall it was great passworded action all nite.

Re: Karkand Wed 25th 10EST (approx)

My squad was nowhere near the East flag... For some reason I was constantly lagging and then getting disconnected like no tommorow...

My squad was ordered to stay on the West and try to hold them back to one or two flags... We just held two immediate flags from our UCB and got couple of shots off from distance....

Also Last night I have seen some very good competitors... Especially squads were turning flags in 4 seconds... Very hard to battle back when that happens... I should not have shared Beatnik's "Bodies on the flag" command with the rest...

I am happy the challenge is increasing.

lol. I was thinking the same thing with the other SL thread... maybe it's NOT such a good thing to share the good tactics.
