PW Night, Daqing Oilfields and Mashtuur

I hopped into the commander seat late in Daqing Oilfields for the Chineese and commanded most of the game for the MEC on Mashtuur (crashed to desktop).

Daqing I hopped in late already down by 200 points. So it was a chance to see what I could do. By the end, we had snagged most of the flags, and some were horribly tough to take, Squad 3's (Gunrack?) assault on the Refinery for example. Squad 8 did a good job of keeping the US assets down. We had decent air support, but they still move way too quick for me to command them. Squad 7 (Deveran) did a good job of supporting 3 at the Refinery, assisting squad 2 at the Old City and bouncing between the East Oilfield and Old City. Squad 5 successfully assaulted the Power Station and we maintained the Cisterns and Gas Station. Unfortunately, we ran out of time.

Mastuur as MEC was a blast. I did move squads all over the place on this map and perhaps attacked too often, but most of the game we held a comfortable 1-2 flag lead. The swiftest successes were Squad 7's quick cap of the US Main which we held for a majority of the game. Squad 4 did a great job of keeping their assets down. The most rewarding were the assaults to recover the Hotel and the North Gas Station as they were grueling assaults. The squads that took those flags, 1, 3, 5 performed extremely well on those assaults. I saw them use terrain to their advantage as they captured the artillery hill then developed fire lines to clear the flag. The North Gas Station was very difficult to recapture. Against overwhelming numbers, it was whittled down until Squad 3 could finally recapture it. Squad 9 was my quick moving squad that could defend lightly assaulted areas, but more than not assisted other squads on attack. Squad 5 did a great job on their late assault and defense of the powerplant. They quickly moved in, then pressed east to meet up with the US assault. That map was a blast until I crashed to the Desktop with only a 120 point lead and the US down to their last 70 tickets. I rejoined, but it forced me to the US.

Give me some feedback. What did you like, what didn't you? Too much communication, too little? Pressed to attack too often, too little?

Thanks for the games!

I forget what squad number I was leading, and who all was on it.. maybe 1? But we had fun on Mashtuur. Each time we'd attack a flag we'd get wiped out at least 3 times. We were surpsied that the MEC was winning with us running around out there

I think you were squad 1 Perry. I zoomed in on the attack around the Hotel and saw you, Icky, Duke and about 8 other guys crawling forward first to regain the artillery then the courtyard around the hotel and eventually picking the last guy off the roof. You guys moved with patience, made sure the area was clear before you took it and that was a key reason why we did so well. We didn't lose momentum with having to spawn back at a faraway base, we didn't allow them to set up defense and beat them back in fine form.

I thought you guys did real well on that assault.

A job well done, LuckyShot. I was SL of squad 3, and your communication was perfect. Not too much or too little. You seemed to be very patient with our squad, especially on the Daqing refinery and the Mashtuur North gas station, and gave us a lot of latitude and support on achieving our objectives.

As far as Daqing, I got in there mid-round without a CO, was part of a couple of squads before being thrust into SL of squad 3. So, it was a little chaotic. The refinery, as you said, was well entrenched and was very difficult to take. It did help once you became CO, with the arty support, etc. We did manage to swap the flag a few times, but were not able to hold it for long.

Mashtuur was more fun for me, esp. having a CO for most of the round, as we were able to take and defend all the flags asked of us. The North Gas Station was the toughest of them all. We had to work our way methodically up that hill, then were finally able to take it after some of your well placed arty strikes. The placement of the last arty strike was the most lethal, an idea of one of my squad members (I think Arf), who saw that they were all bunched up on the western roof over the gas station. That arty really did them in, which allowed us to move in quickly and take it.

Anyway, kudos to you, CO LuckyShot (and CO Rusty_Mott on Zatar Wetlands), and squad members Arf, Bodofooko, Sarc, iamthefallen, Barracuda_Magoo, elmer_fudd2, Lily, & improbablecause (and any others I may have missed) for a job well done over the 2 1/2 rounds I SL'd.

I guess you missed Duke (I think) and I hopping in that flying schoolbus and landing it right in the middle of the courtyard then hopping out and getting the flag... then jepzilla stealing the chopper and trying to crush us with it! I was being very careful!

That was great fun! I was laughing at how we managed to die with such efficiency at every new objective. We moved carefully and methodically, and picked off a few threats, then BOOM, our whole squad would get wiped out.

Ultimately, we did have a few good attacks. They were just usually preceded by some bad ones. The cap of the Hotel flag was a great accomplishment.

Some surprisingly good teamplay came from two guys who were kicked from the server in the previous game for bad teamplay, but I can't remember their names.

You too, I love being in a good chopper team, there are very few game experiences that can beat it.

Gunrack, you're an awesome SL and I really enjoy playing for ya. You give your squad members a lot of freedom while still controlling the situation. In fact my only criticism (Which is a matter of personal preference) would be that you could bark out more orders and directions when things are starting to heat up to optimize the squad actions. This said, retaking the gasstation and moving up across those hills on Maashtur was a great example of a play style that you just don't find outside of TG. We worked as a squad, everyone did their job well and we succeeded in our tasks, great games by all involved.

Re: PW Night, Daqing Oilfields and Mashtuur

Great working with you, fallen. Nice job piloting on Zatar, btw. You and elmer_fudd2 provided some great support for us when we needed it, and followed directions very well. And the going up the hills toward the north flag and taking it on Mashtuur was the highlight of the night for me, as you guys did an outstanding job taking that flag.

Also, thanks for the constructive criticism (input), which I don't mind, as I don't get too much feedback either way (positive or negative). I'll keep what you said in mind. Some nights I'll give out more orders while attacking, or in the heat of the moment, depending if it warrants it or not. Last night, you guys pretty much had everything in control, so I didn't feel the need to bark too many orders out.

Also, as you could tell, my style is a lot more relaxed in terms of squad members' positions, kits, etc. than some SLs. Sometimes I'll need certain kits, or I may need certain people in a certain area, and I'll ask for that. I would say my style is somewhat similar to Beatnik's or LuckyShot's, although they may give out a little bit more orders than I do. Basically, as long as I can stay alive while trying to take a flag, and the job gets done, then I'm a happy camper.

But I do appreciate the input. Feel free to be on my squad in the future, and if you, or any squad members, have any more constructive criticism or tips, feel free to let me know.
