Finally an OpFor win on Wake 10/5

That was a good one - even though I was on USMC, we only lost by a wee little. Good job Sassy on commanding. Maybe Wake isn't so bad after all, or perhaps it was because USMC never did take the airfield. A nice round overall though, and a tight victory for OpFor.

I was on your squad AMosely. It was a good game on Wake Island tonight I guess it is not so bad after all.

That was a close game. Unfortunately, the game was pretty much dominated by air assets. Using AA for a good portion of the game I was a liability to my team (teamkills, friendly fire from the missiles), and only got 2 kills out of 40+ missiles fired at the sides or engines -- I'm assuming a helo, but I was locked onto a jet.

Re: Finally an OpFor win on Wake 10/5

One very close win doesn't prove the map is balanced, just that it is "possible" to win. I would love to see the statistics on this as I believe in pub play the USMC will be heavily favored, while in passworded TG play it will be USMC slightly favored. Mounting a successful defence on Wake takes the teamwork and coordination of TG which we will likely only get in scrimms and passworded events. Does this make the map balanced? Not for my .02cents.

Re: Finally an OpFor win on Wake 10/5

Luckily there were some good squads on China defending the air base, but I made sure to alert them as far in advance as possible in addition to pulling back offensive squads to help maintain it.

IMO from a CO standpoint, if you loose that flag its all over and with no bleed its ok to sacrifice the peripheral flags to maintain as strong a defense as possible.

Shiner I you are probably right, only because China doesnt have a UCB. But that base is so large that I feel the entire team could make it into a fortress and win. In the end, like you said it comes down to who is playing and their level of teamwork. But what map can you not say that about.

Easy way to balance the map while retaining what DICE wanted it to be (not neccessarily a good thing): Make the airfield a UCB

I left partway through the map, and I'm a little surprised to hear that the USA never took the airfield. But when I was there, they went all out on their defense of the airfield. Still I would have liked to see some aerial assaults against the airfield from the USA choppers. Maybe a few strikes with jets to knock out their armor and then paratroopers onto the field's capture radius supported by Blackhawk miniguns.

This win may support the notion that a UCB airfield would make it a more balanced map. With China holding the airfield, USMC was constantly pushing back and forth on the periphery, which made for some nice battles in them there hills.

I'm always a big fan of infantry skirmishes and last nights Wake round gave me one of my higher kill to death ratios in a few weeks as a sniper. its a great map for skilled snipers. it is very easy to flank and outmaneuver opponents from good cover and rack up kills if you're a good long to midrange sniper shot.

But making the airfield an UCB would mean all of the MEC defenders who otherwise would be held in reserve now move out from the UCB and push the attack along the wings of the island. In that case, I don't think the USA would stand a chance.

There's a way to test it--- make it a house rule for a night.

Especially easy when this is happening (names changed to protect the alleged wrongdoers):

A - I just got killed, but I don't know what did it.
B - Where did it happen?
A - Right over here, I'll show you.
icky revives A
A - See? There it was again!
B - Right over here?
A - Just a little to the north. That's it.
icky revives B
A - Hey, something got you too!
icky revives A
icky is killed
A - Maybe it was from the north?
B - I'm not sure. I don't see anyone up there.
icky revives A
icky revives B
icky is killed
A - Ya, I think there's a sniper out there.
B - I agree. What can we do besides continually moving forward out of cover and ignoring our flanks?
icky revives A
icky revives B
icky is killed

... 30 seconds later on a hill to the north ...
icky [knife] jusb
icky - I got the sniper
... another 30 seconds later ...
icky revives A
icky revives B
etc...

Could we change the airfield flag so it takes longer to cap? Im not sure if that is possible but if it is, it would take a larger effort to cap the flag.

It would also be nice if the radius was smaller, being able to hide in all those crevices make it easier to cap
