Friday Night Fights

After entertaining my visiting retired parents all day, I was able to get in a few much-needed games Friday night, all as USMC. Started out with some new faces in the squad on Sharqi (Hambergler is a great name, btw), and we played somewhat well, with some promising attacks, though I believe we lost due to a MIA commander.

After that was the Zatar Wetlands map, which was all over the place, but we ended up pulling off a win by occupying the far eastern base and (what seemed like) all of the air and armor coming up from their main base. The last half hour was all bombs, artillery, APC fire, and even a few CO kills by my squad. It was big fun, with everyone pulling their weight and dodging ordinance while getting kills. And thanks to YerMom for for CO'ing that map. Lots of fun.

This was followed by Karkand, during which a few rumblings on my squad inspired us (along with Bhack, the CO) trying out a deceptively strong defensive strategy I'd like to call The Sassy. Realizing that it's an all-bleed map, and that the big 'W' we all want depended on number of kills alone, we pulled back from the front river CP (at that point it was USMC on the west and MEC on the East). So we did, and created a kill zone that often broke and provided many opportunities for MEC to capture West Flags. This got them bleeding tickets on many attacks, while most of the USMC played flexible defense, hopping among points. In the last 100 tickets, it ended up as the classic battle on the river, but what a game. Call it Proof of Concept of the Sassy Maneuver. The whole game was very atypical Karkand in that most of the fighting was on the West, but damn it was fun to see some other aspects of that map.

I think there was a mediocre round of Sharqi in there - we couldn't seem to get everyone on the same page, and our assaults suffered for it. But it was still a fun, if at times frustrating, map.

Then, Mashtuur. I thought we'd be hanging on defense most of the game, but we were all over the map, defending Arf's (I think) strong assaults on the USMC Hill point by the arty, re-capturing the USMC main base, the MEC bases, etc. I think we actually played every CP that map. It was great because we had JMJ commanding, my sqauad in the BH dropping in and taking flags with a quickness, and getting a bit of smack talk from TeamSpeak.

It was just the one of the more FUN rounds (all 3 or 4 games) of play that I've had in weeks. I've been getting a little battle fatigue lately, mostly due to losing 4 games in a row night after night...a cold streak I guess. But tonights play brought it all back, and I'm re-addicted. I just hope that parental visiting time will allow some more tomorrow night.

GG to all who played Friday nite.

Re: Friday Night Fights

I had a good time gunning for Cymba on Sharqi Peninsula. I don't think MEC had a very good time though.

Loose lips sink ships.. Too much talking on TS, so I knew Beatnik was SL.. "Hey Beatnik, boot that dude from your squad so I can get in."

Only real time I saw you guys was on Mashtuur at the hotel. Saw Beatnik running across the hills so I knew to open up on him with my 50.. and on the hotel roof I was firing on him when Drunknsoul saved his life by knifing me in my back.. But I didn't mind too bad, because his name had been Beat*zap*nik a few minutes earlier I averaged 3 knife kills per map a few maps in a row

But, yea, Friday night's games were fun. We seem to have a budding commander on our hands -- Xodius. He got a round in Thurday and Friday night. I also played under a couple good SL's which made things funner.

Re: Friday Night Fights

On Mashtuur it was actually Bane2's squad but he kept disconnecting and usually I'd end up Squad Leader until he reconnected. We juggled the squad leading role until he finnaly reconnected on the other team. When I became permanent Squad Leader the squad didn't have as much direction but they still did well.

You guys were tough to dig out of the Hill, especialy that time you bunkered out on the roof. Your Medics were damn fast, not just on Mashtuur but Sharqi and Karkand too. As fast as we could shoot people they'd pop back up, it was very zombie army.

Those were some good games

Re: Friday Night Fights

Friday night was pretty fun. thats the first friday i think ive ever played. I got booted a ton of times though (SM's? probably) and eventually gave up trying to get back on. Good job to B as SL when I played MEC on Clean Sweep and great job to Brennus on the rest of the USMC maps. I put up my highest Kill to Death ratio on Sharqi as a sniper in a long time it was 48-13 and most of it due to my squadmates watching my back for knifers and spotting out anyone giving them trouble so i could take them down.

I remember at one point getting sniped by you and then checking the scoreboard to see if you were in an active sniping nest. You'd accumulated something like 20 kills and it was early in the round. I called out a warning, only to see Jusb [M24] Someone over and over again. You were literally killing as fast as you were reloading the weapon.

Later on, my squad surmised you must have been in a position lined up with the side of one of the buildings near (outside) the construction site, and we were perfect targets when we advanced that way.

I actually found three really good spots in the round. One was the building just to the west of the construction site where i could cover that flag they were defending while you guys tried to flank them. I honestly couldnt relaod fast enough and i was "in the zone" i guess you could say cause every headshot i took landed a kill. Thats the biggest rush in the game when you can shoot-kill, reload, shoot-kill reload and miss only like 1-2 out of every clip with like 4 kills per clip.

at the beginning of the round I was lined up on the wall but below eye level in a bush as guys came out of the UCB's to take the front points.

Then i spent the end of the round picking off people from the opposite side of the TV station while my squad moved in from the other side. The defenders went to them and as they moved i got clear shots on all of them from behind.

plus the usual picking off people as we defended.

Yeah, sorry about that Arf. I think I need a more powerful power supply for my brand new vidcard that now uses a plug. I get kicked to the desktop very intermittently. We had a great squad for a couple of rounds and I was very impressed with your sniping skills.

Dont worry about it, Trooper. War is ultimately uncertainty. You never know what the final result of your decisions will be until after everything is over. The best way to learn is from experience. Practice makes perfect. The fact that you stepped up to the plate says a lot by itself.

Remember:
No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy.

LOL Roger that. Any medic who plays on my squad is guaranteed 100 points.

I had fun on my first night as an "official" member. Just watch out for beatnik's point blank rockets to the face.

It hurts.

Re: Friday Night Fights

Great job on Karkand Homan, it was my first time SLing a full squad and my squaddies played a solid defense throughout the game. Despite my best efforts to keep them confused and disoriented

Thanks to our CO as well for not playing the usual river-standoff game. Karkand is a much more interesting map when there's some dynamic combat.
