Discussion: Battlefield 2 / Battlefield 2 - After Action Reports - Mashtuur, 10/13, 9:30-10:30PST - Ouch.
If that beating doesn't deserve it's own thread, I don't know what does. Fortunately,
My first time squadleading was tonight on mashtuur, as a future Naval Officer I figure I should probably get used to it, even though its a game, but man it sure is tough. I think my ADD gets in the way however, as I am running all over the place trying to heal people, throw medpacks, kill baddies and still lead 5 other guys. Definitely lack focus. Fun night (lots of paddle kills) all around though, most I have played (5 maps) in many moons.
That was an amazing game. I was convinced we (MEC) were going to lose half way through, but we had a great comeback at the end. I was in a sniper squad with perry and Towd and we had some great fun.
Spent most of the game flying around capping undefended flags, or deploying onto the tops of otherwise inaccessible buildings. Highlight of the round: landing the roflcopter on an enemy sniper.
I wouldnt call it a beating, it was a close game with a big comeback near the end. I thought our side (MEC) was sure to lose in the beginning. At one time, we didnt have any flags at all. Of course, going through 3 commanders didnt help. In the end, we rallied, enclosed USMC into the Backyard, and let the bloodletting begin. My squad held the high ground between the South Gas Station and Backyard, and rained death downhill. So I gotta give kudos to my squad that I inherited. A little unorganized, but solid all the way through. Message to Crooked Bird: have a little more faith.
man...that map was brutal. Props to Holman as CO though. We (USMC also) didn't have a CO for sometime, and we were losing our momentum (I felt). As soon as I saw Holman was on, I asked him to be CO, and he just jumped right in.
The problem, I felt, was that the USMC played too much into the MEC's hands. They were concentrating their forces to create a "fish-in-the-barrell" scenario, where all MEC were spawning on a single point and then just get massacred.
My squad, 2nd, tried to break the stranglehold a couple of times, by grapping fast attack vehicles and capping flags...but we couldn't find an FAV/Humvee/Vodnik for minutes, and then when we did find one, it got blown up. So we were the walking fast-attack squad; the slowest damn fast attack squad you ever saw!
Even once we did manage to cap a flag, the MEC was right on top of us, and we couldn't get out fast enough to make good on our intentions.
All in all, it was a good game though; just frustrating as we were not able to execute our plan smoothly. Felt good killing Arf at range with an assault rifle while he had a sniper kit though.
Principles of good Sandbox Etiquette:
Assume good faith - Be polite, please! - Work toward agreement. - Argue facts, not personalities. - Concede a point when you have no response to it, or admit when you disagree based on intuition or taste. - Be civil. - Be prepared to apologize. In animated discussions, we often say things we later wish we hadn't. Say so. - Forgive and forget. - Recognize your own biases and keep them in check. - Give praise when due.
That was an awesome game, I really didn't expect us to win up until the last fifth of the game or so when our lines started holding and we kept the USMC team bottled up at single flags like the Backyard and Powerplant.
What looked like a sniper squad on the enemy team was quite a pain. If I had to guess I'd say that Tybalt, Gassygnoll, and Rico were all on a single Sniper squad. You guys kept hitting us from angles all over the map, that was a real pain.
I also have to admit getting picked off by a M16 made me wince, god damnit you're on the list now.

It was revenge for me knifing them. I love when those knife fights just come up, sorry some of our guys had to ruin it and shoot you. I hate when that happens.

I knew there was a sniper squad on USMC, but we never saw them in the game. I'm guessing they were mostly on the eastern side, since we stayed mostly on the western.
sorry i bailed, bom, i CTD'd and didn't feel like booting the game back up.
good games that night. i played a few round under dustermahn, then SL'd on karkand, and joined up with bom for wake, sharqi, and part of mashtuur. was in excellent company the whole time.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
Things usually unfold faster than...
