A 42nd apology - 10/19 Mashtur City

Just wanted to apologize to my fellow MEC teammates, and our CO (sorry, I can't remember a name). I started out squad leading for the 42nd, my first time in this role, and a disaster in that regard. I'm not apologizing so much for my noobness (though I know it didn't help in the least), but rather the lack of communication with the CO. My VOIP had taken a most inopportune time to fail, and not only couldn't I use it to communicate with my team (thankfully we have TS for backup), but I had no means of communicating with the CO (something I didn't realize til much later). I fear that I left a strong impression that the 42nd was either going rogue, or was incompetent, my own SL skills aside. I ended up relinquishing the SL role when the combination of utter confusion on my part, and the blacked out VOIP warranted a new SL. I think it was Xiel who took over that duty for the rest of the map, until he lost connection, had to reboot, etc, at which point I got bumped to SL again (and continued the dismal showing til somwone else took over again). In fact, easily half our squad was suffering tech failures left and right, and at one point I think we lost half the squad within 30 seconds due to various failures.

Anyway... sounds like I'm excusing the 42nd's performance, specifically my own, by playing the 'technical problems' card. The fact is, I was not prepared for what I faced as a rookie SL, and it was only made worse by my VOIP problems.

The 42nd still stands ready to fight and follow orders... but this SL will try and get some more practice time (and confirm VOIP operation) before taking on the role again.

I was having issues too.. My on-board network card is on its way out, I need to go pick up an Intel Pro 100 or something today I think so I can stop cursing at my machine when it drops connection.

1 in 4 times that I connect, my VOIP does not work. It gets really irritating, but all I can do is DC and then reconnect. I feel for ya, brutha.

Mirf, I also had difficulties with VOIP (especially when running Teamspeak simultaneously) until just recently. Last week I bought a Sound Blaster Audigy 4 (not the "Pro" model, but rather the $75 "regular guy" model) and have had absolutely no problems since. Installation was simple, sound quality has been great, and problems have been nonexistent. I'm not sure what sound card you're running now, but if you don't already have an Audigy 4, it might be worth checking out. Good luck with it.

I was getting connection errors constantly last night and couldn't connect at all. Maybe there was something going on independant of our respective machines.

I don't have any hardware issues to blame my suckage on that round. I sucked. Pure and simple. I mean, even Bommando sniped me. That's how bad I played.

I was the CO... I thought I had one hell of a Squad called 42nd, but no response over VOIP no response to my orders... I was very disappointed and utterly stopped giving orders or tried to get some kind of communication out of them... Well that explains a lot...

Play a couple of Squad member under different squad leaders... I am sure you will pick up quickly.

Yep, that's precisely what I was afraid of and why I wanted to post. I'm bound and determined to learn this job, and well. Sorry we (I) fell short of your expectations of the 42nd. We hold ourselves to a high standard as well, so it's doubly disappointing when we have a bad showing like that.

Bom go boom good eh?

To be honest Bom, you got really unlucky in that game. Every speculative shot I took seemed to head in your direction. It was like i lost a potential lottery win and all the luck was diverted into guiding the shells in your direction. That said I had a little chuckle when your trash talk became cursed and we nabbed the flag off of you guys right at the death

But grrr to JMJ for the cheeky C4 kill

Still I thought we did ok considering jep had the IFF bug. -19 on teamwork for me.. (sorry man!).
