I knew it!

We had major transportation problems that entire map. The four control points on the east side are really a unit and difficult to infiltrate without running headfirst into that "wall". When we kept being sent on foot I started to wonder what happened to our chopper. I'd check the map but it wasn't in our main or being flown by anyone. I asked our SL if it had been stolen or something.

We were essentially immobilized the entire round, it was almost like Kubra Dam with a wall.

Re: TG Scrim - A SL's perspective

That flying schoolbus is a piece of trash but contributed to at least 50 lost tickets because we kept trying to actually use it. The guns on it suck and are darn near impossible to kill a person or car with, and it's huge & slow so it's an easy target to hit in the air. It's only useful for transport behind the lines, not for combat insertions like it was being used for.

It's too bad you didn't steal it earlier, like, I dunno, after our openning assault, or the game would have been closer. We wondered where it went, but it didn't really bother us (us being the air assault squad). In fact, it made me happy to see it gone.

Re: TG Scrim - A SL's perspective

I was happy at the time to get rid of it because my biggest fear going into the game was a halo unit that we couldnt see dropping in on our main at the same time that a ground squad came in. Thered have been almost no way to defend against that.

When you guys had 3 squads at our arty, i didnt even know how many were there at the time. All i knew was that a few of my assets were down and that i needed to move the blackhawk team in that general area. Im curious about the 3 squads. Were they tasked with taking the south gas station or the hill, or both? Also, howd you even get 3 squads there? just 3 squad leaders in the bus or was there a sneaky vodnik that came in as well?

There were 3 squad leaders in the chopper and we were instructed not to spawn until they had landed. They were supposed to land on the hill to the north of the Hill CP. Two of the squads were supposed to attack the CP from the elevated position and the other squad would help, plus attack the arty.

By the time I spawned on Jusb (our SL), I think the other two squads were already dead. This happened in less than 15 seconds. The chopper was gone and Jusb's squad was stranded on the north side of the hill and being chased by a squad that was positioned on the top of the hill (we could watch them headed for us on the UAV).

We had a firefight with that squad for a few minutes but we were all killed. A bit later in the game, our team actually did capture the Hill CP, but I don't know how that occurred.

Our initial plan was quite bold, but I'll let Bane, the CO, post the details about it. I don't think that's the time you are referring to though, as the only time the chopper transported anyone other than our own squad members was at the start of the round.

Re: TG Scrim - A SL's perspective

Oilfields

The 42nd were tasked with defending the two west flags, with Xeil, StrikeFear and myself in charge of the bottom flag. We also had Tempus and perry in our squad, and it was their job to grab a jeep and head down to the enemy UCB in order to mess around with their assets. I like taking a defensive position between both flags when controlling the south, as the north I feel is more vital and you are on hand to help out. It soon became clear that we were not going to have that luxury with the refinery being converted into a fast-food tank making factory! I think we did pretty well to hold in down there, as although the flag flipped a few times, we managed to recover. This was until near the end when a final USMC push, coupled with Bom stealing our AA just in the nick of time, and me falling down a hill to get a shot on him culminated in my death and us being pushed off the flag. With both west side flags gone there was no way we were going to stop the bleed in time.

Great job to my guys in defending, and to Bom, Beat's squads + all the other 7th guys that I just had no time to remember the names of because I was too busy crying in a corner

Mashtuur
I was not SL for this one, so was happy to have the tank. Our plan was to get down to the powerstation quick, grab the tank, and then head back north west of the hotel to act as defence assistance of the rest of the 42nd who were to hold the hotel. I got some c4 on the powerstation flag as well, as it was not a priority to hold it. Overall the two times i detonated it i got 1 enemy kill and 1 friendly kill - the danger of remote detonation - many apologies to FPS Douglas for that.

The first half of the game was pretty quiet for me, so having been given a supply crate on the hills to the north of the arty, I just levelled a few indirect shots towards the mosque / backyard area when the map showed no friendlies nearby. We had a couple of forays by the enemy - one on the hotel and one on the hills to the north, but both were cut out reasonably quickly, and with little loss.

My main pet hate of this game was the amount of punishment that the Black Hawk can take. Even with the new engineer speed they seemed near invincible. For the first half of the map I did not manage to take it down once, despite several hits. It did die once however, proof that tanks are not as hard as trees. I did manage to get a long awaited kill right near the end when it was sat covering the south flag. I think it had taken a fair amount of damage already, but just seeing the wreckage was enough for me.

The second half was mainly spent with Strikeman and I traded some handbags. In the end we we level at 1 kill each. I was a little gutted at my death - it coming from a very nice shot that hit my right front treads when i still had half a bar of tank armour left - nice shot mate! After the death there was a gutting moment where I thought I had lost the tank to a steal, but 2 quick packs of c4 sorted it out. Very glad to be back in the tank i spent the rest of the match patrolling the south (if maybe a little frustrated not to be allowed to go further forward). Strike and I again had a few long range spats, but whenever we got hit we would just retreat back to repairs, so nullified each other. Some guys on the wall west of the mosque were also using my for a little rocket hunting practice, but fortunately as they could only pop up enough to get the shot off (for fear of being machine gunned down in return) I managed to get a few dodges, and whenever i took a second hit had a supply crate nearby to limp back off to.

Certainly an 18-1 K-D ratio is the best I have ever had!

Oman

I was split off from the 42nd to help lead another squad, picking up what seemed like a 2nd BCT battallion! Great to be in a scrim with these gus as well - especially FreidFish because I played with him in my squad in the first TG scrim I was in (Karkand vs HOC) and haven't had the opportunity to since. Maybe 4am is not a great time to squad lead, and I was maybe not on the ball as much as I could have been. Havigng had a couple of ineffective bounces off the West River Flag (had i been a little more cautious on the first run maybe things would have been more interesting). After that Tempus got us to manoeuvre towards another beach flag, which we capped. We then spent the rest of the game there... mostly respawning from my point of view! I think Bom didn't much like losing a beach flag and so he gave us a few hello artillery strikes. Not wanting to lose the flag our efforts to assist the nearby flags were quite hampered. Tempus made a great call in telling us to harass but not assault the other flags. This kept them on the back foot a bit maybe, and many of the assaults on us were very armour based. No idea how we held on for as long as we did, and similar to Daqing Oilfields we just let it slip at the end.

One thing I would like to point out: Icky and Asch are sneaky bastards! Many times I would move around a corner to be killed by a particularly menacing bush! Icky as well found some great hiding spots around our flag, and it really madeit difficult for us. You really want to be focusing outwards on the stuff coming in, and when you have to look inwards to hunt people down your defence gets tested a lot.

-----

Overall a set of fantastic games, that were thoroughly enjoyable despite teh scores not necessarily going the right way! I had spoken to Bom about the game earlier in the week, and remembered commenting about my excitement to just how intense the game was going to be. Even though one side might be 200 tickets down, I said, you just know that they are not going to give up. I was very pleased to note that certainly the squads that I was on did not give up at any point no matter the score. Never did our heads drop, never did we conceed. Every bloody inch of each battlefield was fought over again and again with never a thought that it was not rightfully ours. Every flag was taken by force and never anything voluntarily given up. There is no shame to losing if you are playing in that manner.

Great job Alliance, it was a pleasure!

Re: TG Scrim - A SL's perspective

Yea nice battles we had Wulfyn. We were each at the edge of the viewdistance, so it required allot of precision to actually get a hit.

I'm not sure if you were in the tank or not, but I snuck up to the powerstation and put some C4 on the tank right after it poped some smoke. That was very satisfying.

I was waiting for you to come over to the backyard with your tank, but it seemed like you primary role was defense of the power station. You did a good job at that, I think we only got it neutral once or twice.

Good times

Hmm.. bit confused - must be cos it was late! Maybe you weren't in the enemy tank at that time and the shot i thought hit the right front actually missed but you got c4 on me at the same time. Can't remember how i died, only remember it was you.

Lol, how many other holes will be in my AAR!!

On Mashtuur I was in the BH squad and we took the north gas station and I asked StupidAwesome if I should take their helo, he said something to the effect of "Good God Yes", then I hand delivered it to JMJ with a bow.

Which is sad, since the real life military version has armaments to make the BH weep (2xGSh-23: 3000rpm 23mm cannons) and a thousand more horsepower.

Re: TG Scrim - A SL's perspective

The highlight of the whole event for me was on Mashtuur when a vodnik FINALLY drove over one of my mines on the NE road near the end of the game, killing the 4 occupants. My mines had been on that road for the entire game, and I was disappointed to see B's squad repeatedly intercepting vehicles which were headed that way. Up until that point, I had 1 kill and 1 death, and that got me to a much more respectable 5-1.

Man that was funny. Icky and I were sitting at the south gas station just shootin' the breeze, there was no action going on for us. All the sudden he rang up 4 kills (mine on the vodnik) and he screams "FINALLY!!!!!"
