The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

Hi guys! I really want to thank you for hosting an unranked BF2 server where people actually play the game instead of playing grabass. I've been having a blast each time I join.

I am one of the admins ([CH]) of another gaming community that has been running an unranked BF2 server. But we've not been seeing much traffic due to the popularity of ranked servers. So last night, we announced to our userbase ([DC]) that we want them to play over here at TG's BF2 server rather than our own. So hopefully you'll be seeing a lot of us on regularly.

I've asked our guys to give me feedback about the gaming last night and many of them had a great time. Some were kicked for TKing, which I know is the default kick message, so they were probably kicked to make room for an admin/owner. But it gave some of our guys the wrong impression. If this is a problem you guys are looking to solve, I might be able to help.

I know it's weird to post like this on my first post, but we've got an in-house admin system written in python that you can grab over at the BF2 Technical Information and Modding Wiki, under Python Scripts -> Administration -> Administrative Support System. Sorry for not posting a link, but I've not yet made enough posts to do that.

It uses PB to issue the kicks and can give reasons for the kick that users will see in their client after they've been kicked. And all admin commands are issued in-game, which I suppose could be a problem for those needing to make room for themselves.

At any rate, as a thank you for hosting such a great BF2 server, I'd be happy to offer any sort of technical support for setting up our admin system or creating other python tools you may need/want.

I'm really looking forward to future games here!

I think that's great that your directing your folks this way. The only thing better than a server full of mature teamplayers is one with even more mature teamplayers

Make sure you guys read up on all the rules and SOP's and welcome to TG!

Re: The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

hey butter! welcome! yeah, last night was probably a little more 'pubby' than usual since a lot of us were over on Server 2 for a TacticalMod session.... glad you managed to have a good time anyway...

(yeah, those kicks are script based... there's a script running that checks if a joining player is a Supporting Member, and if the server's full (62/64 actually), it kicks the longest playing non-SM)..

hope to see you guys around more often!

Re: The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

Glad you guys came Butter...the DC guys were kicked to make room for a supporting member. At the time you guys were all online, we were busying playing the tactical mod (most of us TG'ers) and once the server crashed we all join server one and since most of us are supporting members probably many DC guys booted to make room for TG supporting members. Hope to see u guys again, espically when most of us are playing vanilla and not a mod.

Welcome butter!

Yes, the default kick message is a pain. We have been trying to implement a reliable kick using pbkick, and if they haven't already done so, I am sure our modders will take a look at the information you've provided.

Re: The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

Welcome to TG, Butter. Glad you enjoyed your stay. I remember you folks last nite from Karkand. It was my squad on MEC that ran yall out of the Gatehouse and Train Accident. Good times.

Thanks for the programming help. That default message has been a sore issue from day one. We always worry that people get the wrong idea upon seeing that. I hope the admins can put it to good use.

P.S. Someone from the Triangle. Woohoo.

Look carefully at the background logo on our frontpage and you'll probably figure out what CH stands for. There's a very old story about that name and how it played a part in us deciding to start our own game server.

Re: The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

Butter,

I'd suggest sending a private message to Pokerface informing him of how you've been able to create a kick message. He's been our typical BF2 programmer around here and I'm sure he'd appreciate the information!

May I also suggest on your news section to mention why people will be kicked from our server, so they understand and don't get frustrated.

Re: The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

Heh... funny to find this post now. pokerface and I have just been discussing the changes to the SM kick to use PB instead of the default kicks. Timing is everything. Expect to see different kick messages soon, though maybe not my choice of "you were kicked for being too smelly".

Thanks for the input, and glad you had fun on the server. I bet a bunch of people got the boot when server #2 crashed and everyone joined #1.

If you guys are interested in a different BF2 experience, you should check out Tactical Mod, which we run occasionally on our servers. Check the posts in the BF2 forum for more info.

Welcome to TG gents... Very nice to see more like-minded mature gamers.

How many regular DC players we are talking about here Butter?

Re: The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

Telorn, I sent off that PM to PokerFace. I've also made it clear on our forums why some of us were kicked last night. I think everyone understands.

John CANavar, according to a poll we created last week we should have anywhere from 30 to 40 regular BF2 players. If you believe polls...

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Re: The [CH], [DC], and last night's games

30 to 40...Well...don't forget we have more than 1 server. Server 2 is running tacticalmod..so if server 1 fills you can always try server2...get enough people in there and you'll see an influx of people from server1 when they notice

30-40 players?! Hell, we can scrimmage against each other! 32v32, full-scale battle!

I was looking at that Tactical Mod today. Historially not having hit indicators drive me batty, but I definitely want to give it a try!
