My first COing experience for a scrim and tactic
Well I have now experienced what it is like to sit in the big chair during a scrim and let me say "whew I am beat"! I have to say that I didn't really want to CO as I haven't had much experience COing but there weren't many volunteers to start with and I figured if I put name on the board for Brave team then surely there would be COs lining up to face me
So here is just some highlights of my experience.Tactic My strategy for Operation Smokescreen was to hold Oil Storage Facility, South Village and Wind Farm. I figured if we could hold those points that it would force Bravo team into a multifront battle and funneling everything to the middle of the map towards a large armored force stationed in front of the South Village. My squad assignments were for the 33rd to defend the Oil Storage and the 12th defend the Wind Farm and the Irregs in the armor in front of South Village. I figured that the Oil Storage and Wind Farm CPs would be facing coordinated attacks of armor and infantry so I had the 33rd break into two squads of 4 and titled one squad 33rd infantry and the second squad 33rd AT. This would allow them to have the flexibility to face any situation. I had also asked the SLs of these two squads to join in their TS channel so they could coordinate their attacks and essentially act as 1 eight man squad with anti infantry kits and anti tank kits. I had the 12th do the same thing at the Wind Farm and it seemed to go pretty well initially. Thursday before scrim I can't sleep and wake up at 3 am in the morning thinking about the strategy and my impending fate in the CO chair. I really wasn't nervous as I was confident in my team but worried I would let mu team down. I got lots of encouragement from all my guys so I thank them for that. I also got some fine tuning tips from Mantis which were very helpful. Scrim Time Well the start of the map was a bit rough as we lost both Oil Storage and Wind farm right off the bat. This isn't good but the 12th came hard and took it back relatively quickly and was able to set up a solid defense. They held the Wind Farm for the majority of that round. The 33rd was able to take the Oil Storage back and held it so the Bravo team had North Village and Hill Shed CPs. This is good as they were in essentially a U shaped battlefield with enemies on all fronts .Tide turns What I think turned the tide was when the Bravo team took South Village and was able to hold it for most of the game. The Irregs fought a tough fight and took it back for brief moments but never long enough to control it. I couldn't really pull any of the other squads to help as they were up to their necks in defending their respective control points. As usual the 33rd was stellar in holding the Oil Storage. They lost it a couple times but was always able to get it back relatively quickly. CO mistakes A contributing factor in our defeat was my inexperience in COing and things might have been different if I had made a few crucial adjustments. I failed to have a complete overall view of the battlefield. I concentrated to much on my CPs I had, instead of seeing the entire field. I got recommendations from SLs of things I should have been seeing and giving orders to do. Also my artillery strikes were ineffective as my patience wore very thin and I wouldn't site in by the pixel. I tried to set my arty where it should go but not precisely enough and I believe I team killed some people . The overall score was relatively close in the end but I think that had more to do with the skilled squads I was trying to lead to a victory.Overview I was happy at the turn out and again I thank all participants you guys are what makes TG THE BEST PLACE ON THE NET. I am disappointed in the outcome as we were completely dominated during all 3 rounds of this scrim but I have to tip my cap to the Alpha team and all their members you guys really took it to us.

Re: My first COing experience for a scrim and tactic
i was just an N.C.O. at best and i was plenty nervous and focused on the battle. After getting my orders and assignments from the Lords of War i practiced and researched during the week of the scrim. I could only mangae what it was like being in Command and responsible for every move and action of the team.
This scrim gave me an insight on the focus and determination those in real life need to have when planning operations. Their actions have life or death consequences!! I mean they must wake up and all day think about the up coming operation. Eat, thinking about, physcial training, thinking about it, shooting range, thinking about it, what little time they have with their family, thinking about it, before going to sleep, thinking about it. This reminded me of Delta Force and their task of freeing the iran hostages and all. Now that was a lot of planning, training and focus. Once again TG helps me tap into the warriors point of view and better understand it. P.S. Drizzid. it seemed like you had some players that did not join the game or left the server due to computer problems; and there were some tech issue with the your Migs right? The War Lords were plenty nervous about those first two matches. They were super focus due to the outstanding Bravo team roster.

I did a walk-through of South Village tonight in local-server mode...that fight really irked me. I knew it was a turning point...the turning point.
At the end of the day me and my squad got owned by Santa and his 2 little elves... It was the first time I SL'd in a scrim...and like you Drizzid, I learned a bunch of stuff. Sorry I had to learn it at South Village though. Cheers. |
