PW Night 9/13, Good Games

Good games tonight on PW night!

Played the last couple minutes of Dnipro Sunrise while my squad filled up. The first full map we played was First Snow. Our squad spent much of the round at the WindMill flag accompanied by one other squad. We saw countless attacks and drove back most including paradrops, armor, infantry rushes and artillery. That was my most enjoyable round on that map as we were able to dig in against a very motivated enemy including Bane, NorCal, Mantis, PhoenixFire and other solid TG'ers. Our guys were swapping kits depending on the threat, so it was unusual for a person to carry the same kit throughout. Thanks to Marstein, RocketPunch, SaintNicks, Intron and Blonov who did a tremendous job throughout the round.

Fallen was up next, and even though we were no where close to top squad (Ultrablue had 192 points as Sausage Makers squad racked up some 600+ points) I was very proud with our squads performance. We did move around the map quite a bit, but spent much of our time at the Lumbermill, Trenches and Crash Site. The best fighting was from the Trenches for us as the enemy pressed in from North, East and West while we held that flag. Good job to RocketPunch, SaintNicks, Icky, Intron and MoreGooder. Wussypoo's name came up anytime we ventured near the crash site and we saw an awful lot of the [Frag] guys with their shotguns hitting us from behind our lines. Great games as that was a tremendous win.

Dnister River was the last map of the night for my squad and we quickly took the East Bridge, followed by snagging and defending the West Bridge. We held out there for a long time until the Germans capped the Island followed by the East Bridge behind us. The best fighting happened after we recapped the East Bridge when a Drizzid squad snuck in from the south side. Bodofooko, Reader and Tau Nuetrino were all thorns in our sides until we could finally clear them out. Solid job to Dr. Ares, Corstick, MoreGooder, Azreal, and RocketPunch. We held a slew of armor at the end which really kicked off a solid standoff at the river. Solid job by 6thAD Empathy who hopped in the CO role near the end. Very communicative and quick with the supplies.

Good games tonight and very much enjoyed the PW nights the last 3 weeks!

Re: PW Night 9/13, Good Games

Dnister River was a very poor team effort for the German team. I'll not point fingers but lets just say that wherever my squad went the other squad seemed to follow for some reason. Even when we rarely had bleed they abandoned their flag and either did uncoordinated attacks with half their squad or grouped up on the flag my squad took and then was defending. Might I add that their squad k/d ratio definitely reflected this....while ours was positive theirs was very nasty. Oh well.

Rest of the night was decent although I think the ATC session left the server with a lot less experienced TG players which hurt the gameplay some. I saw way too many small squads on some maps and not much thought put into coordination between squads and not all going for the same flags. The one time I tried to go commander to get some coordination going I lost my connection to the server early on and couldn't access it at all for a good 20+ minutes. It was quite weird.

I'd say I had the most fun on Battle of Sambir and Dnipro Sunrise trying to keep the frogfoots in check. Those on the ground may think otherwise but I feel confident I was very effective in harassing them and taking them down when I found them. Its tough being a fighter in POE...especially when your the only jet in the air trying to counter both bombers and a mig. I bet I took down close to 15 of those frogs on Sambir alone. One of the frogs still got like 55 kills though which is frustrating. In the right hands they can just do so much damage regardless of whether you take them down 10 times a round. Sambir in particular I believe we lost because we didn't have one bomber in the air yet the enemy team had both frogfoots running. Thus our armor couldn't get anywhere but theres was free to roam. Somehow I got top score in the fighter which is NOT a good sign for a team...in vanilla that would be quite common but the POE fighters are no where near as powerful.

Lessons learned: I need more arty practice!

Also the leopard with the guided missle rocks, while I sat on a hill overlooking east bridge I was raining guided missles of doom on Tau doing the back and forth dance.

Fallen was a great map of either getting killed from afar or literally jumping in a crater and noticing an enemy right next to you.

Re: PW Night 9/13, Good Games

I feel like I'm always a few weeks behind in discovering things about BF2 and PoE, but I finally started to get the "trick" of arty and managed to hit flags with just a few adjustment rounds after a while. Much appreciate the arty spotting on First snow, it was the first time I've had the gunners seat for a full map (until I crashed to desktop) and I wish I could've finished the round.

Dnipro was another good map with Al as a gunner in the bomber. It's definitely a new experience to fly in PoE where AA is devestating if you give them half a chance.

It was both, I only had 4 of em. And when you got right up against the wall I always hit the lip.

The other highlight was taking out the chopper with arty...of course that was balanced out when I killed 4 of my squad with the arty.

Needless to say I need more exp in the arty.

That spot feature for the artillery is a bit goofy. I put on the binocs, stood up to look at the flag Mantis was at, dialed in the artillery and looked for where it set the spot. It would set it 10-15 feet in front of me. I tried it several times with similar results before giving up. I could "Spot" the enemy making him flash red on my minimap, but couldn't set the arty on their positions.

Yeah, Nice games last night! Good communication and teamwork. Tense battles all the way.

@ Lucky. I think the arti spot thing is a bit buggy (from what I've read on PoE forum) and I am sure it will be fixed later. I do not know if zooming in when spotting for arti will help.

Not that I can tell. I have only found that the spot works if you zoom in, otherwise you don't get the marker (correct me if I am wrong). I had the view filled with the west bridge base and it popped the arty onto the hill in front of me before the river. I was initially using that hill between me and the river as a shield from enemy bullets. So I moved to the other side of the hill starting to take fire and spotted it again and was able to move the spot to the middle of the river. Because I no longer had cover, I started to take fire and died before attempting a third spot. If there is a crack artillery spotter, I am willing to hand out +rep for someone who can show me how to get around those bugs.

The last few times I've been on, I've been on Saiko's squad. He's a big defender and we'll sit on a flag for a whole map. I just wanted to thank him for squad leading as he's doing a great job.

If I remember right, he was squad 8. I saw him at the Island flag on Dnister River and also at the Lumbermill on Fallen. Good games man!
