TacMod 9/17/06 Sunday

Things kicked off with a rough start again, with the server operating as Vanilla instead of TacMod, but at least the maps were the correct size!

I believe MEC took Port Fear and Operation Phoenix early on. The third map of the night was Jibbel City and it was a heartbreaker for MEC. We were driven to our last flag (TV Station), then blitzed north and capped all the flags and I thought we were coast in for the win. But alas! USMC stormed right back and took Road Construction and made Square neutral. I thought we had cleared everyone out but an engineer placed mines around my tank and once I exploded it was lights out. What was going to be a 11-1 victory turned into a 0-1 loss, the horror! Well played, USMC...

Mashtuur was also tough, with BigGayAl pretty much shutting down the MEC tank. I couldn't get out of the Hotel flag without eating at least one rocket, and if I hopped out to repair infantry would cut me down. We were pinned to that one flag and really struggled to break out, so again well played by USMC.

The last populated map of the night was Zatar and 16p still has a ton of armor and an attack helo so it's hard to stage an attack crossing all that open ground. Eventually we capped Center Island and turned Factory neutral and I ordered my guys in to cap the flag to ensure USMC couldn't spawn but the two remaining enemy troops left were able to cap the Factory flag and the entire team spawned. Drats! It could've been a heckuva comeback but it wasn't meant to be...

Those last two rounds (Mashtuur and Zatar) it was really suicide for MEC to use their armor, but simultaneously we couldn't break out as infantry alone. We tried going on foot, using jeeps, using armor; pointing over USMC's shoulders and asking "what's that over there?!" as we attempted to slip past them...

Nothing worked!!

Good times. I believe we had two convincing MEC victories, two convincing USMC victories and a 1-0 USMC victory, so pretty tight...

Re: TacMod 9/17/06 Sunday

Last night was the 1st time I have played tac-mod in a long time. I didn't think I would be able to stay for very long so I started a "Can't Stay" squad on the USA side on Operation Phoenix. I didn't have the presence of mind to write down my SM's names so I apologize.

We moved into the 1st flag and took it fairly easily. I switched to defense and another squad was pushing into the flag far north. I decided to stay defense and try to keep them bottled up at the construction site. The northern flag flipped back and forth a couple of times and we decided to push into the construction site since we were bleeding. I left one SM at the southern flag providing cover for for us with the 50cal on a vodnik. We took construction site but encountered severe resistance. The bad guys slipped behind us and took our southern flag as the round was ending. Well played guys.

The game was a bit laggy for me so I restarted the game and joined my squad for Operation Phoenix. This time the SL was someone I hadn't met and he claimed to have never led a squad before. We played defense at the flag just north of the TV station. Holy Crap they wanted that flag bad. We had constant attacks from the south and they made a brilliant maneuver to the west that let them finally take it. We psawned north and pushed back south. Pjornix (sp?) someone took the flag. We were down to almost no tickets and everyone was screaming "Don't die". That was when we ended up with the one ticket win and one of the best rounds of Tac-Mod I have ever played. Man that was fun.

For Mashtuur our squad took the northern flag and stayed there the entire time. The only memorable bit was when grenades started raining around us and Icouldnt figure out where they were coming from. Penguineer had snuck up beneath us and was acting like a one woman artillary unit. My SL peaked down the wall and took a bullet to the face. I ended up having to go dowin in the valley to take care of the problem

Zatar was a frenzy of us trying to keep a flag. I can't believe we won that one. We almost got capped out twice.

I had a lot of fun last night. It was a great break from the frenzy of POE2.

Hehe! Fun times, they were!

That Mashtuur game came to be a lot of hiding for me. Hiding by that wall at north brige raining grenades onto Wimpinator. Hiding in alleyways trying to take road construction. Hiding in the pipeline listening to the enemies on the flag. After getting mowe down by Wimp, I decided not to be greedy, and my hiding lasted a lot longer .

Apologies to the 1Mip Squad lead by E-Male on Zatar. We were holding Central Island and I was in the APC watching for enemies coming out of the eastern flag. Right when a tank starte to cross the bridge and I was engaging it, BF2 decided it wanted to disconnect

Rofl that's a good one! I always try to see the pc as a person as you did here. I can tell you my friend the pc has even more antics then my girlfriend.

Good again. The map with the square was insanely close, and we lost because the other team held their spawns better. ! Don't spawn if u have <10 tickets !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We would've probably lost by bleed but still kuso... .

I am constantly amazed how smalll tactical decisions can make a big difference on Tacmod.

One example was (port fear?) on the map with the square. We were sneaking around to roadsomething flag from the east, when suddenly our SL (mosely?) got commander (ash?) orders to hit a few red dots close by. We moved back a bit to square and there I found a +-whole squad squatting behind a corner, all looking away from me to the south. One soldier survived mu support gun.

This is a good example of how sending even one guy to flank can wipe out a whole squad that were about to overrun you. I'm sure everyone has experienced this. On Tacmod if you get the jump on a squad, you can often whipe the whole group out in seconds even I you have just one gun ready.

Then on mashtuur, Coridon was right, my at stopped the tank from moving up from the hotel. This was purely because we had great positioning on a roof south of hotel. Jaymind was feeding me ammopacks constantly and he mowed down an incredible amount of infantry. That roof in that game was a really powerful position. Sorry to emale for not getting back to the flag in a timely fashion.

I just LOVE the way you can move with a squad. It has a very cinematic feel in TACMOD. I love the way it actually pays off to wait for a teammate at a corner, give him cover, have him do the same. It is as vital when moving in a group to keep 360°, to avoid being wiped by that lone flanker.

I simply haven't played anyy fps that comes close to this level of immersion, realism, and cooperation

-----PS----
-Tacmod devs could perhaps borrow that smoke barrage from Poe if it works out.
-How about playing a round of Jalallabad instead of the mashtuur next time. Played that alot in the last nights

Re: TacMod 9/17/06 Sunday

During Jibbel battle, Jmaker and I were in fire team Alpha and Coridon (SL) positioned us on the west side of the city. We survived waves of attacks and finally both of us were out of ammo. Not playing BF2 for a long time, I completely forgot about "goodness coming from sky" (supplies) and was asking Cor "Sir, we are out of ammo, requesting a suicide mission, over". Cor had a less drastic solution and requested supplies from the CO.

I was utterly shocked when we lost Jibbel. I mean c'mon, how can you lose from a 11-1, how??? I might be the last soldier in contact with enemy, they were all at my ironsight, bunched together in a fountain (or whatever you call those things) and I couldnt...simply couldnt get a single kill. You know the story of the hunter going after multiple rabbits. Well, that is true. Pick one and stick to it damn it ! I was banging my head when the game ended... GJ USMC

Thanks to my SLs E-male and Coridon, squad mates and OpFor for a fun night and good games.

Yeah John, that was sweet when you and I were there on the west side just trying to annoy them. You watch my six, revive me if I fall. Great stuff. Like he said we both ran out of ammo and had to retreat south to pick up some more ammo from a supply crate. We were all screaming too. I can't believe we lost it 1-0. Incredible round.

Re: TacMod 9/17/06 Sunday

I believe it was me who was SL'ing on Mashturr and Jibbel City. I've had limited experience SL'ing now, but i'm no where near confident to lead a squad, least of which to the ability of someone like jmaker or BigGayAl.. Though I think the interesting thing is, and this has happened on PoE too, I think i'm doing terrible and for some reason we always end up best squad and teamwork, often 2-3 times in a row. wierd :/

The thing I'm finding strange noone is talking about is what happened after the tacmod server started dying down and we went on a pub raid. We stopped off at a 24/7 Road to Jalabad server as some people had never played it, and set to work. The first thing we noticed was..

Absolutely no teamwork. Yes, there were squads.. many many 1 man squads, and 20+ unassigned people. We sat there and attempted to play, watching both teams doing the equivalent of running up against each other and flailing thier arms, unable to take a single flag.

After a round or 2 to get on the same side and for me to fix some problems relating to teamspeak and static, we all got together into a squad on the MEC side, i believe. We spawned at the furthest flag, and I kid you not, began raping the USMC like no tomorrow, doing nothing but defending, holding out on the rocks in view of the UCB. 6 men holding back the entire force was just a bit too much to comprehend. I do believe we won that game without them taking a single flag, inspiring some pubbies to squad up and help us out.

The USMC side was equally amazing, us taking a few non-TG members with us. We had some great pushes, and directed the charge through the whole map. I guess teamwork starts to rub off on people, because squads and others near us assembled together and started to pwn on thier own... altogether, it was a beautiful thing, and incredibly fun.

Re: TacMod 9/17/06 Sunday

Yeah, Bis - that was really an amazing pub raid to the 1st IB server. To be fair, I don't think many of their own guys were on- mostly loners. (And there were no vehicles, so they couldsn't blast by us.) But that made it an even more dramatic illustration of just how different TG style play is when placed amidst the typical pub style. Even a lightweight like me was many time more effective when working closely within a tight squad and going toe to toe with a mob. Talk about your force multiplier...

You didn't do half bad as SL, Bis. Keep it up. I think Dirt013 was SL for a few of those rounds and he did a first rate job of keeping us coordinated. S!

Sorry I can't recall the other guys on the raiding party, but thanks to all for a blast!
