TG5th vs. Irregulars Nuke Scrim

We settled down for some 5 vs 5 between the Irregulars and the 5th for 2 rounds on Carpathian Mountain and 2 rounds on Spies Like Us.

Carpathian Mountain 1rst had the 5th on Defense at the South Farm and the Irregulars on Offense. We posted Luni and P8riot to defend the NW corridor and Rocket and MoreGooder to defend the NE with myself floating. MoreGooder was solid spotting the enemy before they made it to the flag. So often we had a head start and could pin down the Irregulars in the tree line. About 10 minutes in, the Irregulars made it to the East Entrance and were putting some pressure on the Nuke. 15 minutes into the 20 minute match and they managed to put 4 packs of the necessary 18 onto the Nuke. With under a minute to go, feeling pretty confident, the irregulars broke through a hole in the fence and somehow managed to get the remainding C4 onto the nuke to end the round. I saw the time as 8 seconds left in the round. Irregulars victory 62-0.

Carpathian second round had the 5th on Offense and the Irregulars on Defense and battling at the same flag. Our goal was to pressure the NE corner initially as much as a distraction for me to work my way to the south side of the base. Once there, it took us 5 waves of respawning before we were able to take the Nuke down. We rotated between the gap on the South East, South and then NW side and the Nuke was down with 14:14 left. Final score was 146-0.

Spies like us rolled up next with the 5th taking defense at the center flag. We assigned corners around the perimeter of the hill overlooking the flag with Luni NE, P8riot NW, Rocketpunch SE, and MoreGooder SW. When we spotted the enemy, we would collapse the two closest guys to their flank and the guy at the opposite corner to the Nuke forming a 3 man line to eliminate the Irregulars as they moved in. The Irregulars managed some impressive runs into the flag, but only exploded less than half in order to blow the nuke. Goatboy and EO both were eliminated as they were putting C4 on the Nuke. This was a 999-60 victory for the 5th.

Spies Like Us, Round 2 had the 5th on offense. We assaulted from the North Eastern Corner with myself setting Spawn Point up for NW. As the Irregulars collapsed down, they eliminated our first push quickly. The second wave spawning on me successfully flanked their troops allowing free reign at the nuke. Nuke went down in the first 5 minutes, although I do understand Sajier was having trouble staying connected to the server. 5th win, 165-0.

Excellent job to both sides as this was a lot of fun! Thanks to all those who played!

Sounds like a plan. Irregs, I'll put up a thread in our private forum for a debrief.

Job well done!

I was SLing for that round. Initial plan: SL to provide a spawn point near the out of bounds area on the East side. I had Goat as my enemy SL hunter/spotter. I kitted myself as support, E0_ as medic and the rest of the squad as spec OPS. Goat was to move South, moving in from the West side. The rest of the squad was to move due South and East (2 fire teams) and try to spot defensive positions in order to find the best way to push forward. Since we were meeting with some resistance (no kidding), I ended up moving South (and getting revived a few times), providing suppressing fire for my squad as they pushed for the Nuke. After they detonated the first 4 charges, I hid behind the fence (South side) and allowed them to spawn for the last C4 fest (this is where you shot me Lucky, just before the game ended )

Fun games my friend. Thanks to my squaddies for providing both good suggestions and good ground pounding

Re: Irregs vs 5thJTF PoE Nuke Mini-Scrim

I learned this on the fly tonight, and thought I'd share:
A medic moving in with the spec ops gang that has plenty of reserved adrenaline and leadiing with smoke granades can be a powerful offensive strategy by reviving downed spec ops and provide cover fire.

I was humbled by the level of game play. Ever since discovering TG and later the 5th, I have enjoyed my experience here more than all other games. Tonight was a perfect example of a good time had by all. Thanks for the great evening.

I took the helm as SL for that round. I had 3 guys assigned to roam the hills. The trees to the north were supposed to be claymered if Sajier made it into the game. We held pretty well from the 1st push but the 5th regrouped too quickly for us to get organized. I made the mistake of being too close to the flag and got killed. That gave them several seconds were the flag was undefended. I could only lay there and watch the C4 fest. It was nasty.

I was SL for the Irregs on this one (we rotated the SL duty each round...just for the hell of it ) and I made a major miscalculation on the speed at which the 5th would arrive. I had Blonov button up a couple of the back doors with claymores (so we could focus on the likely avenues of approach)and then swing wide out to the west to spot, slow, and harass the approaching 5th. This turned out to be a bad idea given my initial mis-step...as he never really got to do that, and it put Sajier, E0, and Wimp in a tough way initially. I quickly had to call everyone back to the Nuke to fend of the wave attacks...by then I had lost the initiative. The medic / spec-ops combo on the attack was very effective.

I think I learned (at least internalized) more in this one scrim than I have in the last 6 months of play.

I had a fantastic time, and want to extend much kudos to all the guys that came out for this Irregs VS 5thJTF mini-scrim. In all my time in the Irregs this is the first squad-vs-squad challenge we've had and much should go to Blonov for his efforts.

Both the 5th and the Irregs came up 1 man short for the scrim (~16% no-show rate seems typical of all scrims) but the list of combatants is:
  • TG5th LuckyShot
  • TG5th RocketPunch
  • TG5th P8riot
  • TG5th LuNiSiCx
  • TG5th MoreGooder
  • |TG-Irr|D.Blonov
  • |TG-Irr|E0
  • |TG-Irr|Wimpinator
  • |TG-Irr|Sajier
  • |TG-Irr|eGoatBoy

The analysts really had their eyes on the Sajier / P8triot match-up, especially with all the trash talking these heavyweights were throwing about before the match. It looks like at the end of the day though the all-star Sajier (pulling out some magic from his WoW days) gave P8triot (whose DDO mana stayed home) some "skooling":

P8triot combined K/D of 4/14 versus the Sajier combined K/D of 18/20 (stats missing from 1 round)...
...over to you Dick.

Cheers.

LOL! To P8riot's defense, I assigned him kits that were not his typical strength and his instruction was to let others suppress and him to charge into that nuke. The Spec Ops Medic combo with smoke was supposed to be Assault as the Assault has armor, however, MoreGooder is a dynamite medic and preferred that kit. We felt that the smoke would let our Spec Ops operate unhindered at the objective. Definitely good rounds and glad we could pull it off with both of us being short 1. Which round were you short of scores, I managed a couple screenies and probably have the one you missed.

Haha!! P8triot doesn't need any defending He rocks, but I couldn't help but extend myself the comedic license for the NFL'esque post-game analysis.

Re: Irregs vs 5thJTF PoE Nuke Mini-Scrim

This was how our defense looked on Spies Like Us...

What would happen as we spotted the enemy coming in, say it was Rocket in the Lower Right corner. We would have the closest two guys head for their flanks with Rocket forming the middle of the line. When their line formed, we lit 'em up from the sides. The NW corner in this example would fall in towards the nuke to help defend it in case someone made it through. I was on the south of the nuke in a tent to take out anyone who snuck through. By the end, we were operating the box pretty successfully and everyone had the "flex" part down.

A lot of fun!

Hey! How come I'm last in that list?! Is it in ascending score order?

Oh, and, um, I don't think my team mates gave me an honest answer, so I'll ask the Irregs this too:

Do my pants make my ass look big?

Not really. Maybe a bit (when you're prone, you make a slightly bigger target than, say, P8riot). Just my opinion. I like what you did with your hair though. Nice.
