1-28 Poe
Fun games tonight, and the highlight of the night was Mashtuur for me. I got to command on what would be the US side of things. I went for my old plan of just holding the east side and letting them come to us. Since its POE, this didn't cause bleed, but i figured if we were all on defense at the 3 easiest to defend CPs, wed get ticket bleed off of kills. Heres how we were setup:

Squad 3 (12th) defended the Hill, Wussypoo was on the mosque, emale defended backyard, and luckyshot was more or less utility and probably saw every flag. Special shoutout to whiskey six for flying the chopper and then quickly picking up and dropping off luckyshot wherever he needed to be. It was also fun rebuking you when you missed the tank on your strafing runs
Interesting thing is that when they put us on bleed by capturing mosque, we actually increased our lead for a while, yet when we had mosque, the score stayed more or less the same. They pretty much got surrounded by infantry and our tank, so i guess the amount of kills we got exceeded the bleed. In vanilla, the only way to absolutely kill off this strategy was to take the gas station, but thats kind of hard when its uncaptureable.
Finally, heres a funny screenshot from Woodlands. We defended the Camp by sleeping. Lots of giggling ensued.

Re: 1-28 Poe
I SL'ed some "early" rounds. Fallen (when the server crashed) and Orel after that, followed by that armor heavy snow map with the center island and west/east bridge (name?).
Fallen and Orel were pretty intense and I had a great squad to fight with (No, I wont start listing names because I _will_ forget some of you
On Fallen we defended Crash Site and Trenches as UKR and had a comfortable ticket lead when bad server lag started. The server recovered after a few minutes and we proceeded to head over to the Cabin. Before crossing the river the server gave up on us and quit. That guy in my sights got Lucky.

Going for the tender right elbow I see... We defended the north cabin for a long time until I came face to face with this guy...

Re: 1-28 Poe
I got on later than normal but was happy to see the server stay full until about 1am my time. From what I played:
- Berezne: Came in second half of round. 12th squad was full. I decided to harass the tank at the enemy bridge...worked for a bit but then my ammo source(santa's squad) went dry. I never got a stable squadmate so this proved less effective then I could have been.
- Mashtuur: Just what I needed for Mashtuur...a better sniper rifle. The anti material rifle is just a beast on this map. You can take down helos in about a clip and a half(GER ver) and Dingo/Dozer driver passengers can be taken out. Not to mention you can just put a whole clip into the vehicle to take down the whole thing. Anyway...ya lots of fun using that gun as I was moving around the map with my 12th mates with Drizzid SLing.
- Highway to Hell: Jumped in the Eurofighter to do my best to negate the enemy air. Went 42-10 so I think I did my job well. I think Drizzid tried to chew off more then he could chew though with the choice of flags to have our squad hold. Thats one thing everyone needs to learn about Highway to Hell. If you go for one of the two flags closest to the enemy UCB then your gonna have a rough time. If the map isn't one of your favorites due to armor/air then hang back and defend one of the flags on your side or hit the Town.
- Orel: Again led by drizzid. We held Lumbermill for the entire game...helped at Church now and then. Good round for the squad...I had lots of fun with c4/nades as the in game kill scroller showed.
- Woodland: Led by Drizzid at the start and then Xeil took over later. We basically just floated between the Encampment and Shrine the entire round...usually holding both flags until the end there when both Lucky and Santas squads decided to come visit at the same time. Squad cohesion was quite good I thought....high success rate in everything we wanted to do.|TG-12th|mantis

LucyShot, Dawolf....
That's priceless! So, who won the shoot-out? Was this right before the server finally rebooted?

Re: 1-28 Poe
Some good games last night. Things got a little ugly when I tried to fly the Hind on Rolling Thunder, with Sawviper and some others also giving it a shot. That thing is a beast, and I still don't understand how some people can totally dominate with it when I can barely get it to hover over the helipad without it touching something and spinning out of control.

Re: 1-28 Poe
Ya I think you are completely right Mantis. I haven't SL in quite sometime and it showed, not that I was ever very good at it before. But, the squad was rolling and I wanted to keep them in that groove so I decided to go to the front line and it didn't go well for me. The squad performed well but I didn't get things setup due to some factors. First it seemed that when we took one of the front flags then 2-3 more squads would show up. The arty was brutal and I could get the icon where Mantis needed it to eliminate the arty and he had us dialed in. Once the flag we were at got too hot I pulled out and went for the other. We were able to take the flags easily but no sooner did we take the flag there was the other squads we just left and then the arty and tanks and infantry all rolled inI think Drizzid tried to chew off more then he could chew though with the choice of flags to have our squad hold. Thats one thing everyone needs to learn about Highway to Hell. If you go for one of the two flags closest to the enemy UCB then your gonna have a rough time. If the map isn't one of your favorites due to armor/air then hang back and defend one of the flags on your side or hit the Town.
Oh well I definitely rusty but the all my guys were patient and pretty much led themselves. I mean when you have the guys I had last night there's not much to do except stay alive and provide ammo for them.

Re: 1-28 Poe
No kidding. At one point I was leading a squad of server guests and after the first C4 trap I realized we were in the palms of a 12th trap. I kept yelling at my squadies to back off the flag and let friendlies neutralize it, get blown up, and then go in to revive, but alas... it fell on deaf ears. I also told them to just support the assaulting squad and hold off the inevitable 12th-collapse onto-the-flag-once-its-neutral, but they didn't listen to that, either. I must have stunk exceptionally bad as a squad leader, 'cause they all left and then I think I joined up Troublesome's squad for some actual fun.
HAHA! I was actually able to kill you once in my lifetime!!! Then, the next day, you killed me about 5 times in 2142

Re: 1-28 Poe
Rollypolly was SL on the Berezne map when penquineer was in our squad. The SL would keep moving in a circle around a flag as we spawned on him. We took some tough flags on the map. I kinda wish we would have defended a little more.
It seemed that as soon as we would leave a flag, it would get taken. Even if we left one or more squads there. Over all I thought it was a tough fight for our squad and made me satisfied with our over all performance.

Re: 1-28 Poe
I sledded one round on orel, with mostly unknown players except odanyi or something. We started holding the flag closest to our spawn, which allowed me to kick some members up to three times, before they realized they had to stick close to me at a minimum. Seriously a good number of players just squadhop until they find a lone ranger squad.
Amazingly for the rest of the game they kinda followed and we were very effective at pluggin holes. At one time we held two of the three central flag, and Luckyshot came and wiped us from the outpost. I decided not to push my luck, and we proceeded to church, so we could get three close flags again. Worked like a charm, as we la-eft lucky all alone at the outpost.
This 3 flag strat worked really well (copyrighted e-male) until unfortunately some
TG squad! left the setup to go for the flag closest to their ucb! "Damnit I said, nooooo" Sure enough This cap forced Lycky's (lol typo!) squad on the other side of the map wich was nicely disposed of for now rejoined the attack and flags started to fall. We were able to form a new triangle though with their outpost flag, church and lumbermill. Again though someone wasn't content and flags began swapping for some time. Eventually we ended the round at the outpost where we started again, and the win. I almost felt some full tg squad(s) were working against us here.
I know it is just the attacking nature of some, but please, look at the map. If your men are bored, do as I do (after establishing discipline!) and send them to the flank of a flag under attack. This will allow you to get kills, while making sure the squad at the flag will not get flanked. This should allow that squad to hold the flag a lot easier.
These days in the new poe inf maps, I am always looking at the other squads, and I try to do as little as I can without supporting another squad, or being supported by them. I also try and keep my men in or near the battle at all times, so my allies will not get overrun because I'm sitting around at a back flag. Thes tactics have improved my rate of succes measured in flags and Sl deaths hugely. I will rarely see my squad overrun, which happened to me all the time in poe before. You just can't take on the rushing poe mobs with one squad.
It was great fun defending the church with two squads. I might make a post in the tactics forum about this if I can get some screens going to illustrate these words. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: 1-28 Poe
Hehe yeah.... I was in E male's squad at the back yard... I was lying prone in the "shed" overlooking the flag area as they were capping the mosque... then all of a sudden this big shiny tank spawned in front of me... Well I couldn't resist... I sat it in position between the 2 points and just fired round after round after round... Who needs bleed eh? I got a whole load of kills
... I must admit I was really surprised how long it took for the enemy to pull themselves together and start trying to take me down! GG's all.
