TSP Success! (Finally)
Well, after running a Two Squad Platoon (TSP) in conjuction with John.C this saturday evening, I can report that the new strategy does work (not perfectly of course). Wife is calling, so more later. I have some SL screen videos that will demonstrate coordinated movements between two squads.
Like Iraqi, we may not have won the war, but we won some good battles...

Re: TSP Success! (Finally)
Sorry for not being there as promised guys. Power went out for about a 5 block radius around my apartment complex right about when e-male got on TS because some doofus in a moving truck drove into a substation and killed the electricity....and himself. If we're planning on doing this again anytime soon, i'm up for it.
On a side note, anyone up for some Extra Crispy Recipe?
I know, I know...i'm terrible.

Two Squad Platoon AAR Video Re: March 10
This is a ten minute long, real-time video record of E-Male’s SL command screen while working as part of a Two Squad Platoon (TSP) along with the 1st MIP squad under John.C, on the night of Saturday March 10 at the ??? map. This FRAPs video captured my voice. In future I will use this feature to include an in-video audio narration of the action and command sequence. Tech Note: Ten minutes of FRAPs video made for a 26 gigabyte uncompressed .avi file, which was then compressed to a mere 22MB .flv in Sorensen Squeeze.
Both squad leaders had trouble maintaining fireteam cohesion due to training issues with new members. Nonetheless, the TSP operations on this map were an overwhelming success and contributed significantly to a narrow win by our army. John.C maintained excellent inter-squad communication protocol, while I myself too frequently broke comm protocol. Note that the flag was lost within minutes of squad 2 shipping out to the North East capture point. This Fishing Village flag is a central flag and must be defended by at least two squads at all times until it is locked. The overall TSP strategy was a simple two-zone defence coordinated between the squad leaders E-Male and John.C.

For a better viewing experience, download and play.
This will give you a larger 640x480 screen.
Both squad leaders noted that the TSP added extra complexity to command and communication. Simultaneous launching of an assault is the key benefit of the TSP, and requires fireteam discipline, fire code standards, and successful pre-attack concealment. Squad leaders can use Alpha fireteam to launch suppress and distract operations against a hostile target while the supporting TSP squad is moving into attack distance. This serves to pull the enemy away from the second squad, but is done so at the risk of the primary squad being disabled before the support squad is ready to attack, which in turn would then send the entire TSP unit into another cycle of regrouping. Thus far the primary TSP tactics are evolving as follows: zone defense, coordinated attacks, and pre-attack suppress and distract maneuvers.
Squad 2 – SL John.C with:
Aculle
Finestyle
Grunt
Snoopicus
Gangrene
Squad 6 – SL E-Male with:
Coridon

Fat
Whitefear

Re: TSP Success! (Finally)
I nominate E-Male for the best AAR ever !
How I would have loved to hear the teamspeak as well, the idea of SL to SL comms has always really appealed to me
Take a look at this for recording all sounds with fraps, basically unmute mic to feedback your voice into what you hear and record that along with game sounds. The link shows the procedure for 2142 which alt-crashes, simplify and adapt for the more stable BF2.
In this post you outlined your thoughts on TSP, any more refinements?
I've just gotta try TSP
EDIT
I recommend downloading and watching on a TLV viewer

Re: TSP Success! (Finally)

Indeed, give an AAR-oscar to E-male!
Just a thought, with BFrecorder on the server now, we could all start posting the AAR's with a link to the recorder-file! Would be great If you want to really check out something specific (and have a lot of time). What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: TSP Success! (Finally)
Thanks for the kind words. Now that I can include my own voice in the FRAPS recording I will be able to narrate the action a bit. There is a method for getting all sounds into a FRAPS recording by setting a mic so that it echos back in the main sound stream, but this I cannot yet figure out.
Even with just one voice in the FRAPS recording, we'll be able to a much depth and information to these video AARs, and reduce the amount of time needed to provide explanatory notes.
