Al Basrah 3/10 ~10:30 PM Pacific time
Stalemated could be a quick summary again at ~10:30 PM Pacific time. I wonder if this is a common occurrence? Far west flag (Village?) went quick and except for about four minutes of the Mosque being neutral the rest of the round was fought with the Facility flag in contention. I think tickets ran from the 130(?) pt difference start to near two hundred then back down, down, down to an end of 21(?)-0. The US started getting something right near the end, just not fast enough to beat the end of tickets. No CO for insurgents. Either US had great spotting or a CO to coordinate air attacks or a new air team for the latter part of the round? Part of the reason the tickets started turning for the US was the improvement of the cobra(s)' strafing insurgents in close proximity to their team and the A10 strafe/bomb runs which would dump on us as we were closing in on ground contacts. Malv, ProjectNA, Coridon, Squinty, Giber....something(sorry dude, old brain syndrome), and a couple others were in the squad during the round. Objectives were usually specific. Methods to accomplish were usually left up to individual squad members. Acouple of times we probably should have been a little closer in grouping/timing and more specific in kits/assignments, but overall I felt our squad was doing our part (and more) in keeping the US out of the city. This was my second time on the map and the first trying to drive a vehicle through the city. It was tough finding openings and throughways to get my gun truck to a good position to await the onslaught. I guess I should have stuck to the roads, stopped and asked for directions or checked a map for driving routes. ProjectNA became one of the early victims of war when I ended up backing over him. Note to ProjectNA: when I am driving there are two safe places - in a building and not spawned in. lol. As I usually play medic I would have revived you and dusted off your uniform with apologies as you got up, but insurgents don't seem to believe in shock paddles. And speaking of med kits ... at one point we were pinned down in the open so I whipped out my smoke grenade (POE2) to provide cover for a move to safety. Luckily the symbol (bottle) I clicked and was tossing registered in my brain quickly enough for me to wrench my body around and up so the cocktail was harmlessly tossed into an adjacent alleyway instead of at our feet. Similar to AngelofDeath earlier in the day, I spent much of the round with my med pack out so I was not able to shoot as much as in POE or vanilla where the med kit is self-serve after toss. |

Re: Al Basrah 3/10 ~10:30 PM Pacific time
For whatever reason I can't recall the US ever winning a round last night. Granted, I didn't play for 8 hours straight, but every round I did play the US lost.
Our squad with WhiskeySix, Boot, and a few others whose names I cannot recall were primarily running around the mosque flag for most of the round. The US did manage to grey the Mosque once but they only had 2-3 men on the flag so we were able to fall back and easily recapture it. I really love the fighting inside the city. Kudos to the mapmaker. Cantpick, you did a great job as medic. I only know this since you healed me up on that roof north of Facility. You dropped down a level to get to me, since I kept screaming via the commo rose that I needed a medic. Thank you for that. Medics are absolutely crucial in the battle.

Problem is facility is surrounded by walls on all sides with limited access into the flag area. Smart insurgent teams will hide spawn cars inside of it. I think the issue is we have a lot of air support but its not being concentrated on the flag when needed. Although the way facility is designed its dam hard to get air support in there.

I did not really want to drop down as that level was more exposed to the two story across the street to the south. We had been having trouble clearing that area earlier, it took quite a few minutes. That had been one of the times I should have told the squad to hold back and contain until we had all members present in a tighter group. At one point I saw you run up the stairs immediately after I died on them and I told the squad to support you ("get up the stairs, jmaker just went up and made it inside") as they seemed to be holding the ground level, but not pushing into the two story (and the roof on top) at that particular point in time. Re: Al Basrah 3/10 ~10:30 PM Pacific time
We just finished another nail biting round on Al Basrah (Sunday night) with Insurgents winning with a score of 11-0, I believe. That's two outstanding rounds back to back on that map...
Saturday was a lot of fun, CantPick. I was looking at BFR to see if that round was recorded but apparently not. I'm a little sad because I actually used the Jihad Semi to take out a USMC APC Saturday night. I can't believe I hit the thing because during my approach I left clicked and had the music blaring, and I admit I always laugh so hard it's difficult to drive in a straight line. Hilarious... |
