Static SL Leadership Posture -- An AAR Video
Bravo Fireteam Management & ‘Static SL Leadership Posture’
This is a six minute video of the 1st MIP squad using two fireteams, Alpha and Bravo. In this exercise, Alpha was used for defending the flag area (for the most part), while Bravo was used to hunt and suppress enemy, and provide forward defense. 1st MIP Grunt was Alpha fireteam leader, E-Male was squad leader and acted as a static fireteam leader of Bravo, which means that the SL was not engaging the enemy. The video is heavily edited, but without explanatory 'titles' or slides. Thus actions and orders are not represented in 'real-time' -- a continuous stream of move-to orders is not what happened here.
The ‘Static SL Leadership Posture’ provides the SL with maximum situational awareness and superior command of the fireteams, but deprives the squad of an active fighting member. It also allows the SL to provide a highly efficient spawn point for squad members and allows the rally point to be located at a maximum safe distance. The ‘Static SL Leadership Posture’ is ideal for new squad leaders, defensive postures, terran that offers lots of cover, and squad leaders that lack strong fighting skills in close quarter battles. It is also ideal for training players new to the TG community.
I am not satisfied with this video as a training tool. Consider it part of an on-going attempt to refine the use of FRAPs and develop improved techniques for gaming documentary that takes place ‘in-game'. I need to work on more narration to explain the orders and context to the viewer. This virtual video ethnography may be an entirely new field of study. I am not aware of any serious attempts to apply the concepts of video ethnography to the virtual reality of online gaming.

The squad performed very well. We dominated the sector we held and obtained all our objectives.
Enjoy.Last edited by E-Male; 03-14-2007 at 11:06 PM.

Good work again, but what was that screeching at the end?

Whoa...Deja Vu!
That was a good round...I enjoyed seeing it from a SL perspective. Also glad you muted the squadmember voices. It would have been heavily embarassing to be heard saying "Alpha Three Down" that many times.
I'm still new at playing PR, but E-Male, you've been an inspiration.|TG-9th| Prophaniti

Always looking forward to these AAR Videos of yours. Inspires me to try and attempt FRAPing some PR.
I knew that sound as soon as I heard it. Someone got my dog a "superfly" monkey toy and it drives me crazy with the constant screeching.

I had to look it up, E-Male confuses me with his big words from his big brain
I would encourage you to continue experimenting with video editing, you could try;
> Vegas allows you to zoom in (example) so as you are talking about something you can zoom into it on the map
> Freezing the movie and doing a voice over of why you made certain decisions. Its explaining that split second decision based on situation awareness that I've never seen in any video and would really communicate what it is to lead effectively.
another thumbs up video
keep the camera rolling

Re: Static SL Leadership Posture -- An AAR Video
Now I know why I die everytime I go against a 1st MIP squad. EMale has some kind of a fast forward Hack that makes him run like a speeder bike.
I always look forward to these videos. Great job EMale. I was particularly impressed with the squads ability to follow orders. Nice one guys!Retired 6th DB

Thank you for the positve feedback and helpful suggestions. I often wonder if the effort is worth it and it is nice to see the comments.
Yes, More careful editing and better narration would help -- There is always a time issue, even the most simple videos take much time.
cheers,

I don't know which is more troubling--knowing that your wife makes that noise when she's fed up with your 'thesis research' (way to intellectualize our favorite addiction!), or the fact that you call your wife 'Monkeyman'.
Of course, to be fair I should say what my pet name for my wife is...
Then again, life isn't fair!
