PoE and PR This Week

A noticeable drop in TG attendance on the server this week, due to TGers helping test a new mod version, has been very keenly felt.

With none of the usual suspects around on PR (almost none, Grunt), I tried playing some PoE for the first time in a month or two, and what a difference. One can really see the change in pace -- PoE action is hectic, maps are crowded, tactical movements difficult.

My point here is not to open up a pointless debate about the merits of one game over another. I was just surprised to see how the 'old' PoE felt after my recent immersion in Project Reality.

I had a great two rounds tonight on PoE with Sgt. Fetterman as my Sargent, along with KillaKilla, Smurfly, Madnezz_ADD, and Issac. Fetterman did a fine job of providing clear, concise guidance to a squad of non-TGers, who also did well. We made some very tricky and tactical two-fireteam movements that involved alot of 'move to marker', holding, hiding, 'fire code is red' and waiting, and as a result we were one of the few squads to get and hold flags during a round of Spies Like Us.

At the end of the evening one player spoke up and asked 'who are we' -- said he never experienced such good teamwork and game play. That is the TG Effect -- it is like the 'Axe Effect', but with a lot less women around...

Anyway, it is very interesting to see how a small difference in game programming can make such a huge difference (between PoE and PR) in game play. And in the end, its not the code, but the players that make the most important difference.

Now that is a keeper.

I had fun gaming with you Sunday on Q. River.
It was cool that two squads were working together, and I was a fire-team leader for one map. Hehe.

Re: PoE and PR This Week

We went head to head at the Old City flag on Daqing tonight which was a lot of fun. I know we lost it at one point and by backing off, regrouping, we were able to get it back. It's always fun to go against a sharp SL. For what it's worth, PR is the opposite for me. Way too much running for the flag and tougher to exert pressure on any flag your up against. Every flag you hit has 32 people at it. The last piece is that I like to know that I battled Emale's squad tonight and that's a big part of my preference for POE, the camraderie and friendly competition.

The Axe Effect - "Spray and Pray". I use that a lot on the battlefield.
