    @ Root & tHaKhAn:
My intent was not to suggest that there may be a complete lack of competent pilots on hand but rather to express my opinion that the lack of action that a pilot sees during the game may discourage people from taking up the role. I know that it does for me. For my part, waiting ages for assets to spawn, whatever the reason (and no, I am not a reckless pilot), is not fun and neither is the alternative - fighting IO all night long. Those two items alone do much to keep me out of the PRM arena.

But now that it's been said, if all the skilled pilots happen to spawn on the opposing team, maybe there really is a deficit since one would expect that in a 32x32 cross-section of players, there would be good odds of having them play for both teams.

    Re: HUGE Teamwork Issues

I expected the TGer to act as FT leader I guess. I didn't say it so maybe that's my fault. For the most part the squad moved when and where I wanted to but at critical times the lapses just killed us. Guess I'm spoiled with the 1st.
Grunt, FWIW, I joined you guys in a PW nght last week, and it was mucho fun, I enjoyed the teamwork...but the first I knew of your FT cohesion was when E-Male gave me an order to "stick with my fireteam".

Rather than complain I didn't know about it, I shut up, figured it out and grouped with my FL, but the point being: even TG/clan members might not work in FT's, or know that you want one...unless that's the standard around here, but it seems to be mainly attributed to the 1st, from what I've seen - though I haven't been playing for long.

This isn't a complaint (the opposite, in fact!) - just putting in the other side of the argument. Communication is paramount...

I hope I was not short tempered with you. Normally I would explain the fireteam concept to a new member of my squad (someone I don't recognize), and give them a move to marker if they have trouble locating their fireteam leader. I know that just finding another person can be a challenge, particularly if you are in a multi-story building or new to BF2 -- It took me weeks to get to the point where I could quickly locate another person in my squad...

Yes, the fireteam concept is mainly used by the 1stMIP, but others are picking it up, I would not expect it to be widely copied. I used to try assigning specific names, such as alpha 1, bravo 1, bravo 2, and so on, but most would not remember their designation, and it made it more, not less easy for me to direct the squad. So now it is just 'you in alpha, follow your FTL, his name is Grunt' -- I'll usually assign a fireteam leader for each fireteam, this helps keep the fireteam together, and make the leader of alpha my 'sargent' -- someone I can hand the entire squad over to if I need to hang well back.

By using fire teams I can stay alive and provide much better coordination of the squad, and with two fireteams a SL can address two targets or flanks at the same time. On a map such as the one with the destructable buildings, I can stay close enough to act as a reliable Insurgent spawn point, but keep my men between me and the British and stay alive for most of the round. Makes for excellent continous action for my men, and so on.

anyway... blah blah blah, fireteams for me make the game worth playing -- double the strategic possibilities.

Not a problem. Like I say, I loved the teamwork, it's why I'm here! I was just making the point that although it must be frustrating for you guys as CO/SL, it can be equally as confusing/daunting for someone who doesn't know the setup.

Yep - lol, funnily enough, when you gave that order you were moving around a building - I got lost for a minute, but caught you all on the way out...
