Al Basrah, 4/08
I just wanted to point this round out as a prime example of how the air assets can be used effectively on this map, when so many people diss it as a waste of time.
I spent the entire map in a Cobra, mostly as pilot and a few minutes as gunner. Most of the time was spent hovering at about 100m around the outskirts of town with Asylum as my gunner. A number of feats we accomplished include destroying a host of spawn cars and technical trucks and clearing rooftops. The tanks also fell to our missiles while dispatching from the Palace. at one point a tango team made it to the outskirts of the Airfield and shot me down unexpectedly, then nailed us as we tried to take them out with a tank, but we got airborne again and wiped them clear. At the same time there was another 2-man team using the other Cobra as well as pilots in the A-10s. Yes, this denied the Marines of about 8 ground-pounders for most of the round, but with death raining heavily above with such effectiveness we of course won the round. This is the second time I've won this map from the USMC side (not that I won it singlehandedly, lol) but the other time, both Blackhawks were used as gunships very effectively. As one of the minigunners I can say that it is absolutely devastating when we have competent pilots and a good understanding of how the map plays out.

I took the Policeman kit at Al's request to keep them loaded with missles. He warned me that this would be a very boring role. It was not. We set-up so that I was on the AA gun and he was a ways off of it...a couple times I put some rounds into A10s. They don't like that...so they come back. I'd be clear of the gun, and Al would let the missles fly. A USMC squad came in and tried to dig us off of the AA gun at one point. Al and Ghalas provided a fire base...I flanked. Al provided outstanding intel on the location of the enemy, and I managed to take down 4 guys with the shotgun. A couple guys twice thanks to the USMC medics. Not boring at all! Lot's of fun. As for the potency of the USMC airpower. The Cobras absolutely hammered us once we were pushed back to the Palace area. I was killed multiple times, and felt very pleased that I had been in an AA squad earlier because of it! Cheers,

Re: Al Basrah, 4/08
So you're the ass that killed me with the shotgun.
