    AAR 28th-29th

    Hey guys,

Had a lot of fun on the server tonight!Started with my experiment in Sams squad on Steel Thunder!(read about it in the PR forum)

Moved on to Qwai, where i initially started on my own, in a spec ops capacity! However, the squad then filled, and i had to SL for the first time proper! Thanks to all the guys in my squad, thought i would really screw it up but i didnt(I think....) Also, great job CO'ing Switch, and you had to listen to me telling you what we were doing more that most, as i kept hitting v instead of b!I might learn one of these days....

Then, on to Ghost Train as the British, with Coridons 1st MIP squad:

    Emale
    Aculle
    Finestyle
    Myself
and someone whos name escapes me sadly

Had a lot of fun this round, with Grunt CO'ing. We secured the north bridge while 5 squads continually threw themselves against the south bridge, and got slaughtered by Arty. Once the north was secured, we spent most of the time watching our map and discussing tactics!!!Bit worried we would get knifed actually......
Funny moment of the night.....Aculle and myself watching east, when i hear a death grunt, and Aculle going "what the...".........he was killed all right....by the airdropped supply crate!
    SAdly we lost this round!

Then on to Mao, with the same squad, again lots of fun, and we pushed the USMC back to their uncap, but still lost!!!:s

Last map of the night, as it is 6.24am, was Jabal, hard fought match over the dam, and again, we sadly lost, mainly due to a poorly chosen LZ by a helo pilot, we got slaughted on landing, if not, we would have capped factory and possibly won!!!

Only bad thing about the night was i never got to TK BC2ID.....

    However, fun times all round!

    Re: AAR 28th-29th

That round on Mao was pretty bizarre. As USMC we ran to Supply Depot as another went to Village, but neither got capped as the Chinese pushed up on our flags. My squad went to Village in hopes of our other flags being recapped, but after several minutes it became apparent that wasn't going to happen. So we went back up and around to recap and tried taking Supply Depot again, but alas - we lost our back flags again, yet were still winning in tickets! It ended up in a grindhouse we we pretty much gave up on capture points and entrenched ourselves and stuck it out.

Jabal was a pretty great time too; I took up the reigns of SL. My squad quickly ran and capped Bridge once City and Factory went up and held it for a good long time. Eventually we headed off to Dam to help cap but no one locked the doors at Bridge and we had to about-face and clear the hills to get Bridge back. As some other squads decided to move on East Beach and the new CO told us to to the same I made the call to stay at Bridge which we did, having to recap once again near the end.

    Re: AAR 28th-29th

Jeepo, the 6th person in our squad on Ghost Train was Bamboo. I felt bad that round because we just sat at North Bridge and didn't really receive too much of a beating. As you mentioned, we all just watched the mini-map and commented on what was going on. Pretty funny, actually...

It wasn't until the end of that round that I suggested to Grunt (CO) that we should take down their arty. There were times we had five squads on the South Bridge flag but a well timed artillery strike by Santa would destroy the whole lot of them. I think if we'd taken down the arty earlier we really could've won that map...

Jabal was tough, but in retrospect, at least we didn't get pushed off the map!!!

That should count for something, I think...

    Re: AAR 28th-29th

Ghost train was fun to command, sans the ridiculous amount of people i had to kick for not following orders.

After a chopper blew up, taking away about 10 of our tickets, i pretty much gave up on moving north and used a strategy that i explain in this thread. Basically, have everyone on defense of the south bridge, but spread out. For instance, one squad was holding the 2 hills to the west, and another holds the hill on the east. The rest of the squads are more centrally located.

In this setup, it was difficult to flank from the east or west because the brits had to take a large hill just to be in range of the flag. The only way they were marginally effective was straight from the north, but the brits were completely exposed coming from there. Though it was easy to get on the flag, the squads around there had plenty of time to collapse to form a semi-circle around the flag and artillery it. It went neutral twice, but im sure they lost an enormous number of tickets trying to do it.

At the start though, we were down quite a bit and couldn't come back. We had one lone squad on the north that i couldn't get to follow orders, and just before i kicked the SL they had a .5 k/d ratio and were the only reason we weren't gaining on the brits. After several more kickings, that squad finally got on the south. Soon after, the brits must have sent a huge attack on south bridge and lost a whopping 25 tickets in 2 minutes, pushing us far into the lead. We didn't look back after that.

As for arty, that did help, but its really the SLs that put it in. All i say is "arty ready", but they are the ones that call it in. As for taking my arty out, it was annoying, but we probably had a man advantage on defense since i only had a 3-4 man squad back there for repairs, and the brits probably had a full squad taking out the arty.

Squad 7 was holding the west. Squad 3 was on the hill with fire support and could help either the west or the flag itself. Squads 6 and 1 were more centrally located, and squad 4 held the east side. Whenever the flag went neutral, all of the squads moved to surround the south bridge and basically gang banged them (thats the tactical term for it).

Santa you lucky mythical fat man. At one point on that map I was in your base laying next to you, but before I knifed I asked cordon if that was ok. He said no At the same time, i planted c4 on your chopper as he was landing to pick up people to transport. I spent 3 min laying down in your main base pleaded for permission to kill the CO --- not spawn killing I say, but a legit target. And I was also told no c4ing the chopper --- again, not a spawned asset, an active chopper that i followed back to the base (I was c4ing your arty when it started buzzing over head, so i ran after it)

Anywho, after a few minutes someone found me and shot me --- wondering what the hell I was doing in your base.

We'll need a new thread elsewhere to discuss assassinating CO's and rigging ACTIVE assets (a la, chasing a chopper back to base in an attack chopper means you can take it out, because its, not spawning and taking off)

Anywho, good games last night. The round I co'd was a good time, squads worked very well. My apologies to 1stMIP, the always on defense squad. Sorry, but you're reliable.

    Rofl!

It was actually a lot of fun to for once play a different strategy on this map then pushing the enemy off the map. I started out with a squad full of pubbies I'd never seen, but they did great once they understood that the whole team was working in unison. It was actually pretty funny. This guy joined the squad, hopped in the chopper, and eager to take of asked us to hop in. I explained it to him, told him to look at the map, and he was out of the chopper in no time, as he had seen the defensive positioning. I've taken a co pause myself due to a horrible losing streak, but I must say I don't mind at all fighting in a squad full of new pubbies with a good co, with a plan.

We did have a 3 to 1 numerical advantage in most engagements as squad 7 on the left flank.

I tried flying in transport squad on qwai, and sam did a great job trying to get it going well. I must say though that I found it a complete waste of time to be hovering around shooting the miniguns from the BH, and people constantly using the heavy-at from choppers (or waiting with the heavy at on the chopper pad for considerable time). You have to know that the only nerfed gun in PR is probably the uh-60 minigun, that must mean the devs really, really didn't want it to be used as a gunship. The guns are just for when you are about to land in a hot zone, and I do appreciate a gunner/engi at those times.

Yea,that was it Coridon, Bamboo, hate forgeting names, ESPECIALLY as i have played with him loads before!

Santa, your tactic certainly was good to watch, i rember squad 6 being sent to the waterfall, and then further south before swimming across and trying to come in on your flank....didnt work though!

PS:Switch, good idea for a thread!

    Re: AAR 28th-29th

Even though we sat at the back flag the enitre round, Ghost Train was a lot of fun because of our SL and squad mates. We had great fire team cohesion and communication, so when enemy targets did show up either alpha or bravo eliminated the threat and the other fireteam was ready to assist if needed.

Knowing Grunt was our CO made it fun, we played the armchair quarterbacks analyzing Grunts tactics and watching the tickets. A bit like being on the bench at a game, occassionally called onto the field, but still very much with our hearts in the game.

Grunt took a gamble attacking when we could have just defended our flags, but I suspect that his decision made the game that much more fun for those getting fragged by Santa's army (now that's a wierd sentence...).

The 1stMIP once again provided a solid defense of a critical back flag, allowing others to provide fodder for the enemy's cannons.

Are you calling me a pubbie?!

Well, I guess sliding down the side of the mountain and dying (as the squad medic) several times in a row might give that indication.

I was more worried about getting hit by supply crates than getting hit by Chinese bullets on Ghost Train.

You did just fine -- the biggest problem on that map was my whining when we got orders to go back to mosq as soon as we got to residential. It was a tactically close round, if we had sealed the deal with one more flag things would have ended with us winning on a bleed. Gj, we weren't blown out of the water by any means.

    Re: AAR 28th-29th

I crashed while Ghost train was loading up and when I came in I found the 1st squad full. Coridon suggested I command and so I did. I find commanding fun, but sometimes frustrating.

Nice job CO'ing on Ghost Train Santa...you really stymied us at S. Bridge. Our attacks failed repeatedly and in the end that did us in. It was dumb of me to not assign someone to take down the arty from the get go. I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes and that spells doom when facing a top notch commander like Santa.

hey did the chopper hover over the water for several minutes, then land on the edge of a cliff, then teeter and fall off? cause if so... that was me... my squad needed a pilot and i was trying to help, i warned them i sucked at flying BEFORE i got in... so i figured it would be fine...
