Team Havok! vs Canavar's Militia Scrim AAR

Canavar's Militia defeated Team Havok! in two rounds of 6x6 at Al Basrah.

Team Havok! fought well and proved to be a formidable enemy. Canavar's Militia, named in honour of the 1stMIP Platoon leader, John.C, was led by E-Male (Doctor), with two fireteams consisting of Finestyle (SpecOps), Bamboo (SpecOps), Aculle (Insurgent), 7Shades (Veteran), and Meddler (Veteran). These kits were selected after team discussion. Based on the assumption of high death rate in our squad and no revives, I opted for kits that would be the strongest for CQB. Based on the same assumption, we did not use the Policeman kit (which provide ammo resupply).

Squad members were instructed to withdraw to my position if in need of health, and as squad leader I avoided all enemy contact, spent most of my time in hiding, watching the radar, and commanding fireteam movement and individual tasks for my men. I believe this may have given us the superior tactical advantage that, combined with my excellent fighting men and their 1stMIP standards of fireteam cohesion and communication, won us both rounds.

Fireteam leaders were given more than usual autonomy to deal with rapidly changing conditions, and the use of fireteams did prove vital for defense and attack maneuvers when taking the enemy's flag. The following will try and explain some of the key command decisions and the overall sequence of events. A video of screen shots from my 'radar map' can be found below (at the end), which condenses the movements into a three minute replay.

Note that the explanatory text for each image precedes the image.

We played as Insugents in the opening round and after securing
the Square launched our first (unsuccessful) attack against Shanty:

After failing to cap Shanty, we regrouped at our Square flag, with Bravo defending
the North and Alpha the South. Alpha was tasked with probing enemy defenses.

The enemy managed to slip in under our noses and turn our flag white,
but with Bravo and Alpha in good defensive positions, the flag was quickly regained
before it fell into enemy hands.

After resecuring our Shanty flag, Alpha is sent forward on the attack,
with Aculle, on top of a building overwatching enemy and spotting,
and Bravo defending our flag. I have my men call out all kills.
My intention to reduce enemy numbers and call Bravo forward to rush their flag with Alpha.

Training under 1stMIP Platoon leader John.C has taught me to be thinking at
least one move ahead, thus I always tried to secure a solid defense while
preparing my men for an advance. Knowing how many of the enemy were just
killed in an engagement was critical to determining when to move from a
defensive posture to an offensive maneuver.

We have now pushed enemy into defending their own flag and are moving into their territory.
Aculle remains on top of southern building, spotting and protecting the east flank.
It is noteworthy that Aculle took the initiative in gaining a high position to our south for overwatch.
His decision gave our squad tremendous intelligence on enemy movement.

Bravo defends near our flag, Alpha provides forward defense.
Note Aculle's postion far South West.

With over a one hundred point lead, I pull Alpha into close defense of our flag and send Bravo
(two men, Meddler and 7Shades) to our safe East flank at the marker,
with orders to then move South and down onto the enemy flag.

I made this move as it was clear that the enemy was spawning from immediately South of our flag,
thus the chances were that their own flag, east of their probable rally point, was un- or under-defended.
My guess turn out to be correct.

While we have a substantial point lead, here we are at a critical moment,
with Bravo on the enemy flag but the enemy has turned our flag white.
As Bravo was on the enemy flag in time,
we still have a chance of turning their flag and regaining ours.

We turned our northern flag (Shanty) and advanced en mass to Facility, which we had also captured.
Thus the fight was now over Facility. The enemy pushed us off the flag and turned it white,
but I ordered a spawn car in close to the east, and stayed to the north,
thus opening up two flanks from which to attack the enemy flag.

In the last minute of the game Aculle suggested we move into the capture zone and try to cap the flag.
This we did and literally capped the flag in the last few seconds of the game.

As the enemy had the ability to create a rally point and we did not, my decision to remain out of harm's way provided a constant spawn point for my men. I died only four times in the round, while the enemy squad leader died 17 times. I made no kills and may not have even fired any shots. My men killed the enemy 121 times, the enemy killed us 63 times.

    The Video

A three minute video, probably too small unless you download the file and replay it on your desktop. No sound.

You gave us more than a run for our money, although with your reputation, I was shocked we performed as well as we did.

I really liked basrah 16 in the 6 vs 6 setting. The flow of the battle was much better than any other form of basrah, and it put 3 flags in the funnest part of the map.

Oh, and E-squad looks forward to slaughtering both teams

Yeah, I've never played this set-up before, it's a brilliant way to play.
