Re: TG vs. GC POE2 scrim 9/1/07
I had a good time too... Angel ran a couple of squads like a well-oiled machine, though we only faced opposition (realistically) on the US Berezan Island round. We did comment on the fact that they kept coming from the same direction, though...
Obviously, I was most concerned beforehand with the round I CO'd (Ukes on Berezan.) As it turned out, our squad leaders did a fantastic job on the map, and I didn't have to worry too much. I can't thank them enough for the help and blistering response times. One thing that I wish I had done better was line up jet support for the choppers when I deployed them, but I can work on that.
If it's not too much to ask, I would appreciate if those SLs could maybe gimme just a bit o'feedback, maybe a PM'd line or two. You guys all had fairly different roles/perspectives, and it'd be nice if you poked a few holes in how I did...
Either way, it was a nice scrim, and I'm glad I got to play.OPS, the bacon is on you.

Re: TG vs. GC POE2 scrim 9/1/07
Regarding CO-SL comms, I don't think I heard a single word that might have been passed down to me. The jet's engines make a lot of noise and it's easy for a CO to forget that and talk in a normal voice. I'm not sure about Cantpickmyname, but sometimes I felt like I was almost shouting in order to make sure I was heard by him... well maybe not that loud, but louder still than I do when I'm on the ground communicating with my squadmates. If a CO places combat markers (attack/defend/etc.) on the map, I can usually piece together what his audible communiqués were and pass them along.
Long story short:
From a pilot’s perspective, more so than with ground forces, CO orders are best delivered map markers first, target spots second, audibles last. That way we're reacting immediately and not asking him to repeat himself.

Re: TG vs. GC POE2 scrim 9/1/07
I didn't think I'd be able to play today, but when I got the day free I signed up as an alternate. Unfortunately the TG side was filled and I was left in the ready room. Desperate to play, I filled a hole in the GC side. Ouch. That was a frustrating experience. You guys totally dominated. Period.
I bet it was. I couldn't go anywhere in armor without getting whacked. As soon as I thought to myself "better get moving again before Santa's tomahawk finds you" I'd be dead. At one point I was getting repaired just outside the gate of the northern base when I pondered the odds of getting struck...I looked to the heavens just in time to see the missile drop in and take out the guy repairing me and his armor. But I got away without a scratch.
I really wish it had occurred to me to pay a visit to the carrier and eliminate the problem before we ran out of time...er, tickets.
Good games guys. Maybe next time TG and GC squads should be mixed between the teams for a better balance. Close matches would be much more fun for everyone...although I'm sure some of the victors would disagree.|TG|MeleeClear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose!

Great games for sure - DOMINATION.
Mantis created a great plan for USMC Odessa and it sure made my job easier. It was also quite clear early on in Odessa they'd just lost the will to compete.. I could be wrong but GC seemed tired by that round.
All squads and their leaders executed the plan with precision and confidence. Sawviper, Santa, BaneII, AngelofDeath, and LuckyShot just nailed the lid on the coffin.
Everyone called out what they needed and kept me informed. I just wish they was more for a CO to do!

Re: TG vs. GC POE2 scrim 9/1/07
Judging by the stats, it looks like you all had a hell of a game. I wanted to play, but couldn't get away from a trip planned to the in-laws this weekend. Curious to know what the opening moves were and if you guys had any problems implementing your plan? Who did the planning and commanding?

Re: TG vs. GC POE2 scrim 9/1/07
Another great turnout by TG. I lead Squad 3 the whole time and the most action we saw was on Berezan as USMC. The other two rounds had us as the armor reserves with myself manning the mobile AA. Our team had everything pretty much locked down that it was hard to find some action. Once an enemy was spotted, whether air, armor, or infantry, it was a race to see who would kill it first. Berezan was a perfect example. Clawhammer and I was operating an APC during the first round and either we would kill an enemy armor and a Tomahawk missile would come in a couple of seconds too late or we would line up for a shot and a Tomahawk missile would get the kill first. It was just pure slaughter being dealt out on the battlefield. I described it as dropping raw meat into a tank full of sharks. Anytime an enemy showed up, they were torn to bits.
I made videos of the highlights. The first video is of the opening assault on Berezan Island as USMC. The plan called for a coordinated and concurrent HALO attack on the Listening Post and Camp. Our team had a clean departure from the carrier (no TK's, only squad leaders spawning) and we dropped near our objectives. I don't understand how I didn't get killed since I ended up landing right in front of an enemy soldier.
Watching the recording showed that the enemy aircraft inflicted more damage on their own teammates than on us during the flag assault. Also, the coordination was sweet as Santa's missile cleared the enemy APC while the sqauds came in from north and west.

The second video shows the attack on the Beach at the end of the round. Santa gave us free reign at the end since we were so far ahead in tickets. I told my squad that I wanted that flag before the round was over which was soon. I'm not sure which squad was helping on the south side but with them and Santa's fingers of god, we captured that flag. Props to Sumluv who gave awesome sniper support while I was in the crater.

Bane beat me to video #1.
Here is my version, it includes the initial rollout plan and follows the squads throughout the rollout. It's a big file, around 8 minutes long and set to music from NFL Films. Take that Bane!

Use VLC Media Player or Real Player to view the video.

Great Vid guys...Bane, that tank was pretty freaking close Bro.
A true example of how to Plan and EXECUTE a battle strategy. Its one thing to plan something out, but it kinda brings a tear to your eye when you see it being utilized and unfold
I normally don't play PoE, but I got to say that this was FUN!!! I hope that we get to do it again sometime.

wow. just... wow. lucky, that's THE best video AAR I've ever seen... amazing work! I've already watched it twice...
Scrim's against external opponents really are the pinnacle of Tactical Gaming. Hope you don't mind if I repost this in the general forum - this needs to be seen by more than just the BF2 community here!

Wow #4 Lucky, best BF2 video I've seen. Great work.
Now, why didn't you show the chopper squads when we were tearing right through infantry squads?

Re: TG vs. GC POE2 scrim 9/1/07
Excellent work, Lucky. Too bad the recorder can't show a time stamp. It would be nice to show at what times the action was going down. It's hard to get a sense of when events happened without it (for example the Tomahawks takes one minute to reload), but our execution was almost flawless. These scrims with the planning details and watching how they unfold on the battlefield is the main thing I'll miss about BF2 when it's time passes on. Too bad we didn't use Battlerecorder sooner. There were some fun scrims in the past that I would have loved to have the recording from.
On another note, I foresee these video productions increasing in size. Sure were using FRAPS and BattleDirector now, but in the future we will have multi-million dollar budgets and live actors on-site recreating the scrim. Arguments will ensue as squad leaders squabble over which big name Hollywood actor will portray them.
