    Spies 9/13--Best Round Evar

Man o man what a round!

My 7th squad started out with myself, shakey, phoenix, ultrablue (came out of retirement), icky, and anathema. We started the round off badly, getting massacred at Launch Site. From there I realized our squad was a bit stacked and we would have to constantly move around in order to help our team achieve bleed. For the rest of the match, we went from bunkers, to launch site, to cabins trying to keep bleed.

We had a few really well executed attacks on all the flags multiple times. At cabins we would attack by sending 3 to the east of the flag, and me with 2 others north. Coming in from 2 angles while reviving eachother and picking up medic kits gave us the flag. Attacking bunkers was similar. Wed fight and revive eachother like crazy, set up firing lanes from cover on our approach, and then finally smoke the flag and capture it. At Launch site we would take either the hill to the south or the west, kill some, and then when we were all alive we would throw smoke and have 2 people plus a sniper cover while the rest of the squad would move in. What i liked the most was how similar some of the fighting felt compared to 2142 competitive matches in how we were reviving and moving from cover. Im sure ultrablue can attest to that as well!

Anyway, flags were flipping like crazy the entire round and bleed was always changing hands and as a SL i always felt the pressure to keep moving on in order to get bleed. The last 100 tickets were great. We finally managed to take the lead by capturing cabins. With about 35 tickets left I told my squad to move east to keep them from advancing on cabins. This worked, but of course bunkers went down so we started bleeding and it looked like we may lose. We bled the rest of the round, but somehow we managed to squeek out a win with 6 tickets left :0

Heres a screenshot of the squad screen. If someone has the scoreboard thatd be great.

Great game. That one came down to the wire. Ukraine got the bleed on Germany when the score was about 19-35. I told my guys at the Launch Site to dig in, make sure you are someplace you can get easily revived, and wait for the enemy to come. Unfortunately, our team had left the Watermill totally undefended and it fell; taking the bleed off of Germany near the end. If a squad had been on defense there, it could have gone in our favor. Funny thing was that before the end, there was usually a squad there on defense. I had hoped the Germans wouldn't notice the gaping hole in our line but they came right on through. Let that be a lesson learned to whoever was defending there previously.

Props to my squad of Luuser, Thundeer, MasterEditor, Gabriel, and Sarge. We got out of some tight jams and, overall, did a pretty good job defending.

P.S. Santa remarked that the teams weren't balanced in the beginning of the round. I thought it was about right myself.

Not unbalanced skillwise, but it was 20ish vs 28ish if i recall correctly. It got sorted out quickly enough that we didnt suffer from it much.

Very good game indeed; nonstop action all the time, I saw lots of cohesiveness by ALL the squads on both teams, with 5-6 people always moving together, using TONS of smoke, getting the revives, fighting for the high ground. All the squads worked together as well, spreading out on defense w/ very little zerg rushes. Bane had us doing circles around launch site, always facing enemy flags to hold them back, we never pushed too far and always had a good tactical retreat, since bane had 0 deaths for half the round. major props to bane; I still have a long way to go we all stuck together so the medics had an easy time picking up the revives, especially w/ all the smoke. Bane had 64 teamwork points and I bet 50 of them were ammo bag drops for our smokes! I think all the flags changed hands at least once or twice. Looking at the team KDs UKR managed ~100 revives, while GER had almost 250 revives! =o good job everyone! Highlight of the round for me was seeing an entire 6-man squad hiding behind the same upright tree (!) reviving each other as fast as I could take them down XD

My Learn TG squad did well. I had to talk a lot to get their attention on stuff but they responsed pretty quick and cohesion was solid. Not much we could do on defense when santas super squad came in but we just regrouped and went right back to take a different flag. No point bleeding tickets attacking the heart of their team...always have to know what you can expect out of your squad and not push them too far.

At the end there I spawned to fill a defense hole and was caught off guard at the Cabins with half my squad elsewhere...slowed em down for a bit but my mg36 can only take down so many 7th before it overheats. So ya we regrouped and took Bunkers with help. Probably would have won if we held the flags after that but it wasn't to be and we went right back on the bleed maybe a min later...

Learn TG squad during Odessa and Spies consisted of the following Bloodline.UK. , [=N=]Arachnid , BrewPackBuckFan67, [-M7-]ShinNoir , =BFS= USMCGunnie and a few others. Both rounds very enjoyable and lots of solid teamwork and communication.

That's usually a good feeling given how many times we are on the receiving end.

The squad I was in on the UKR side (named LaunchSite) had a shaky start for the first part of the round. I stuck with the SL but I seemed to be the only one. Then the SL had computer problems and left so I ended up taking over SL. It got progressively better after that as some better players joined us. By the end the guys were doing a great job moving as a group, spotting the enemy, and laying down fire as a squad instead of as individuals. Good stuff.

We did make one pass at Watermill but as Bane mentioned, it must have been at a time when it was being defended. We came in along the coast from the east and our opponents reacted pretty quickly to us and chewed us up. Cover is good and we didn't have any. lol

Most of the round was spent doing active defense trying to intercept people heading to flags. The irony was we spent very little time at LaunchSite despite the squad name.

Fallen and this round were my favorite of the night. If I didn't have 50 revives I must have come darn close.

I had the sense that lots of people have been reading the "How to do well on Spies" thread. Usually, when you get on defense, you can find lots of targets running through open areas. Last night, I saw lots of little melons poking over the tops of hills. Just barely enough to shoot at with my giant UKR support gun.

I also participated in that round, which I haven't done in quite a while, and have to agree with everyone's sentiments in that was an excellent round. Very well played by both sides.

    Let's do this more often!

This was probably the closet to playing this map properly as you can get with a pickup game. There were a lot of ebbs and surges across the map as both sides fought for ground. Thankfully, the typical run straight into the enemy's bullets repeatedly was kept to a minimum. Still could use some improvements, but a very satisfying round. Spies is still my favorite infantry map. Learn to play it properly and any other map is a breeze.

I thought I did horribly during this round. I kept dying too much in between spats of killing 4-5 people. It was fun though. The key to our great match, I believe, was the ample use of smoke. Drop it, and run away!
