First Impressions?
Well I didn't really enjoy it playing it for the first time. It seems like a whole mod like the Kashan Desert map. All wide open spaces, so large that the mini-map and spotting feel worthless on the interface. Wide open spaces where you can never see the enemy and the main way to kill and die is blind fire.
Large spaces where you can't run (even less sprint the PR) and vehicles all feel like they are made of glass. In PR to kill a Humvee you need to find somewhere to get a light AT and then there is ready and reload time, with the anti-tank rifle (that can spawn on flags and on squad leader) light vehicles mite as well kill themselves because one bullet is enough to destroy you. Not to mention mine fields and planes, vehicles rarely get into a point and can only spray blindly from a distance.
Feels like it would be fun either for fliers (which most aren't) or with massive teamwork needed and a full server. I wanted a mod with heavy vehicle play but it feels as frustrating as real trench warfare. And I'm not a fan of hidden pick-up kits, I can never find them. Wish they used PR's supply and spawn system and made AT into WW2 rockets instead of rifles.

Re: Impressions?
I've played a few games and haven't formed an opinion yet
2 keys things I noticed are
1) its 1 or 2 shots to kill
2) no medics (so no health packs or revives)
yes you guessed it, I died a lot

Re: Impressions?
I think this mod is completely awesome. That is all.

Re: Impressions?
The main thing I'm anxious to see is how the maps play out - and how the infantry game is.

Re: Impressions?
I've been playing since early this afternoon and I've got a small review of the game thus far:
-As with any game, the first release is buggy. Not many graphical glitches i can see, but smaller things like not being able to spot enemies/vehicles without using the binoculars.
-Flag hopping...ugh, maybe they'll implement some kind of AAS mode.
-The weapons are phenomenal. The thompson has completely unrealistic recoil, so it's just a streetsweeper, but no complaints on the others.
-Dying is kinda a pain if its not set up right. Now, I realize that having the revive time+killed time is normal for all modes of BF2, but seeing as there is no way to revive anyone in this game, I think we oughtta cut the revive time to 0, especially on CQ infantry maps, the killed time will suffice just fine.
-The usual first release smacktardery is quite prevalent, even on our server, and I know the admins are going to be stressed to the max the next few weeks. This mod makes it real easy for smacktards to do stupid stuff.
-Graphically, the game is amazing. The models and maps are very well designed. The weapons systems are well thought out and organized in a fashion that makes them quite useful. Aerial combat is going to be a much bigger role in this game than PR or PoE2 and I think that will add a whole new level of depth to it.
All in all, I rate the mod a 7 our of 10. Theres certainly room for improvement and I hope the developers get the ball rolling with some of the issues the game has, but I certainly enjoy playing it.

(We just got our remote-admin tool setup, so expect any non-TG behavior to be dealt with real quick)

Re: Impressions?
unfortuneatly shock paddels were not around during ww2...so its good that you can't be revived, i am looking forward to hopping back in after seeing I am legend tonight, roger that on the spotting...though i must admit, i thought there was a friendly tank in front of me, until i was destroyed in the tank........not so sure i like the one shot one kill with the tanks but i am looking forward to getting used to this mod, I am glad to see it, and hey, maybe they will incorporate some bombers, for high altitude fighiting/bombing

Re: Impressions?
I think the shock paddels are as literal as the wrench (repair tank armor??). PR has said that it represents carrying wounded soilders to a safe place and applying medical attention.
One shot tank kills are just terrible for tactics. Manuevering to get the first shot and getting cover from return fire to optimize your reload time is tactical play, one-shoting is so binary and dull unless it is hard to pull off. They should take a page from Company of Heroes to have tactical tank battles.

Re: Impressions?
All I have to say is: I love it. My only complaint is the uniforms. You'll get used to it but for a first time player, it can be quite confusing. I can't tell you how many people I have teamkilled during my first round.

Re: Impressions?
I enjoyed myself, but it's tough being SL.. with no revives, you REALLY have to stay back - makes it difficult sustaining an attack since it's basically 5 attacking 6. I loved the map with the town by the sea - where the germans start in the hills.. that definitely has some fun infantry action.
rest of the maps all seem the same to me at first - I'm sure there are nuances, but it seems to be a LOT of open desert separating oasis of cover. I'm sure some wonderful flanking with infantry riding on the backs of tanks (how cool is that!) will start happening once we take the training wheels off.
Unfortunately, tonight, most of the engagements on those maps seemed to be head-on streams of armor from one flag to the next... with some pretty boring times for defending infantry.

Re: Impressions?
I managed to get almost 4 hours of play in tonight so thought I would share my first impressions.
I was a bit worried when Human Shield referred to Kashan when making a comparison. However, the maps are small enough ala POE and regular BF2 where it did not take long to get anywhere even on foot. I was also pleased to see the AAS type system which focused the action on key flags (not on all of the maps but most of them).
Being able to recognize the enemy, as in PR, was one of the toughest things to deal with. By the end of the session it was getting easier however. It would be nice if you could spot normally as in all of the other BF2 variants. I'm not sure why they made it so tough. Even with binoculars the majority of the time it didn't want to work.
Tank play was fun although the lethality of all the weapons means you need to be more careful. Ideally, as in real life, you want infantry paving the way ahead of you in order to take care of the AT guns and AT rifle infantry. Barring that, strength in numbers seemed to do the trick. You get enough firepower focused on a part of the map and the rest takes care of itself.
One of the biggest differences between POE and PR is the spawn times and depending on which game you prefer most, I suspect everyone will have different opinions. FH2's spawn times, at least with the server settings from tonight, were more similar to POE and personally I'd prefer to have them work more like PR. Having the weapons more lethal is good and encourages squads to take a more cautious approach and use better tactics. However, those fast spawn times and small flag radii means you need to rush at some point and the enemy will know exactly where you are. Although I suppose this is balanced somewhat by the fact that you can't place rally points and after you learn the maps you'll know where everyone is spawning in. Still, PR's respawn system makes enemy deaths more significant and I like that.
The infantry kits I thought were very good although it'll take practice with the rifles to get good at them at distance. Of course it was also a bummer with them in CQB since anyone with an SMG has an overwhelming advantage. Overall the weapons really gave me a feeling of the WW II era and were consistent with my past experiences in World War II Online. I never did play the original FH so I can't compare to that in any way. I'd also finish off here by saying that the smoke grenades are excellent. A nice middle ground between PR and POE here between how fast they go off, area of coverage, and how long they last.
Overall I had fun although at this point I don't see it replacing PR as my game of choice although that may change once I get some more play time and when PR releases 0.7.
In any case, its a win win for everyone because its always nice to have choices and games that provide a different change of pace.

Re: Impressions?
My first impressions are good - this is definitely slow pace, avoid dying mod. The 4 maps I played were heavy on armor, vehicles and planes/air, but not necessarily in a bad way because the maps are very open and the vehicles seem well tuned to it. The tanks have a nice selection of ammunition to choose from. If you do end up as infantry though, it can be rough - lots of bunker fighting and taking cover from pretty much everything. The burning desert expanse is a pretty neat sight though, and the sounds are fantastic (except for bullet noise).
Favorite thing so far - the spotter plane. Lightweight, easy to fly, take pictures of the enemy and relay them to your team. Without the aid of spotting enemy, this is a big advantage.
I like the mod, but am looking for some more map diversity. This is a very well done WWII desert campaign but that's about it.
