Playing time on the TG servers

Hi guys,

I'm an avid 35 year-old gamer that stumbled upon this site because I was looking for some like-minded individuals to game with. From what I've seen, this is a pretty intense and dedicated group.

My question is, can a father of two like me, with only 1 or 2 hours a couple of nights a week to spare, join in? I get the impression that alot of the rounds last more than what I have time for, and I wouldn't want to get a bad reputation because I have to leave the server early.

Thanks in advance,

You most certainly can join in. In fact, we need more 35 year old gamers around these parts! As a 35 year old gamer and parent^2 myself, I completely understand not having huge amounts of time to spend playing, and I think you'll find that many people here are in the same boat.

I think the only real hang-up people will have is that you're Canadian.

Please do join in. We dont care if you stay for 20 minutes and then leave. We all understand RL comes first, so does family. Just jump in let your SL know whats going on and have fun.

Sadly, almost three weeks ago. I'm in the middle of a career change (new job starts on Monday!) so I've been incredibly strapped for time trying to wrap up everything at my old job. Luckily, the new job is a normal 40 hour work week, no weekends, and no travel! I should have a *LOT* more free time stating next week!

Although I did spend some time on the TG Warhawk server this weekend!

Still in the security field, but working as a contractor for one of those three letter government agencies rather than private industry. I'm really excited.

Warhawk is a multiplayer FPS similar to the Battlefield series for the Playstation 3. It comes complete with a nice dedicated server. I get more time on Warhawk because it's easier for me to get in small bursts of gaming vs. the PC. By the time I get downstairs, fire up my machine, load the game, connect to the server and start playing I need to disconnect.

Over this coming winter I aim to use some of my newfound free time to build up TG's footprint within the greater PS3 community.

Room, you just described my life, 38, 2 kids, and run my own firm....get in this community now! I joined because I found fun, without a lot of wasting time...even if I am working too much now to play.

See you....StevieRay (PR Addict)

Re: Playing time on the TG servers

hey Room112,

Please join us. Its not WoW. a couple hours at a time is all I have too.

Since joining the BF2, and more specifically TG, players, I've not really noticed the WGA/writers strike.

Hope to see you in the field. I'm the one with the big bulls-eye painted on my jacket.

I've been reading the boards and noticed quite a few fellow Canucks. We may have to band together one of these days just to show you how our understaffed, underpaid and entirely under-appreciated military get it done!

Funny you asked because I've been spending the last 3 days trying to get the 1.41 patch installed! I bought the retail vanilla BF2 and thought that it would be a piece of cake but lo and behold, after trying to go from 1.12 to 1.41, I tried 1.4, then 1.3 and FINALLY got it patched. Some of the threads in the other forums I've checked weren't kidding when they said that it was the most disfunctional patching they'd seen and I have to agree - and I'm in IT!

That said, tonight will be my first foray into the TG world (with PR, of course). Hopefully my SO, 3 year old and 8 month old will co-operate!

Welcome to TG. Your always welcome. We can always use more tagets... I mean players. Be sure to check out POE as well. The rounds there are time capped to a max of 45min. IIRC.

Thanks for the tip draeh. I was looking at PoE as an alternative. Can that be installed in conjunction with PR, or does PR have to be uninstalled first? From what I've read, it relies more on infantry action rather than combined arms. Which do you prefer?

Thanks!

POE can be installed right along side PR. They are different mods so there is no interference.

POE has both infantry and combined arms maps in rotation. I used to be a fan of the infantry only, but as I improve, I am finding I look forward to the combined arms maps too. I have grown to love using the mobile AA of late.
