Update on my Mom

Well, I just came back from 4 days' visit with my mom, who is dying of cancer. The last you heard, she had broken her femur--it's healing fairly well, but the problems she was having with eating, etc. turned out to be caused by a cancerous lesion in he skull pressing against her brain.

She will not likely still be here in August. She's doing well with the pain, is up and moving around, and has been put in hospice care so she has help. Of course she's doing all she can to keep strong, her appetite is good thanks to steroids keeping swelling down, but the pain is slowly but steadily ramping up. It was really nice being there with her and my dad and brother with my kids--lots of laughs, good conversation, etc.

The hardest part was leaving and just after we left; it all came down on me-- you don't know if you'll get to see her again, and you miss her already, and you have a 5-6 hour drive in front of you with grey skies and a 10:00 PM ETA--it felt pretty depressing. Things are better today.

Anyway, it was a really good trip--too short--and I hope to have enough money to do it again soon. Thanks for all your continued support, prayers and good wishes. I'm glad I have this community to share these things with. God bless you all.

Re: Update on my Mom

It's good to know that you got to spend some time with your Mom. As usual you and your family are in our prayers. I have recruited the Sister's of St. Joseph, who will offer up daily prayers for your Mom.

Take solace in God. All of us will face this sadness and it will be painful; Axis, take hope that she might go into remission. If she leaves this earth, just remember that you are not alone in your pain and hope that she believed the truth.

Re: Update on my Mom

See here for answers to those questions.
Thanks so much, B. You're a true brother.
Greasy--no, never feel alone in this. There are so many of us. Sad, but encouraging as well.

My mom is a miracle survivor of stage four. She knows when it's time to go. That's all it is: a trip to a very far place for a long time, but we hope we will be together again; a trip to the next world is on all our itineraries.

Re: Update on my Mom

I thought this might be appropriate:

Cry out to Jesus

Mountain of God

Love Heals Your Heart

Tunnel

Rise Up

"Don't let your heart be troubled,
This world will never keep you down,
It will never keep you down,
So rise up my friend,
O, this will never be the end,
So rise up my friend,
And live again"!

Take hope my friend, it is in God's hands. Pray for God's will to be done, even as Jesus did in Mark 14.

Re: Update on my Mom

Thanks for the thought buddy. "Christian Rock" is a total no-go for me though--I'm a bit more hardcore than that. And by that I don't mean "Christian" speed, death, thrash or any kind of metal, nor punk either...

This is the music of my faith.

ok.

Just remember, if she is one of God's, she will welcome the end in happiness and joy so that she might see God.

Dont worry man your not alone. My mom also has cancer and im scared she might die any time now. All I can say is to pray and keep strong cause thats the only way your gonna get through. There are times that I feel really mad at myself and angry with the world. But god does everything for a reason.

Re: Update on my Mom

All I can say is spend as much time as you can while you can, miracles do happen but in the event it doesn't be safe in the knowledge that she will be with you forever in your heart.

I lost my mother when I was 13 and she has always been with me. God it still seems like yesterday! Keep the faith my brother, and know we all pray for her. And your mother Twiggy.

Re: Update on my Mom

Hey Axis,

Sorry to hear about that news. Really do hope your mother is in good care. I've been kind of in the same situation, where my mother had died of terminal cancer when I was 16. - All I can say is that you HAVE to keep your chin up and look around and see the people you have around you; they care for you. - I know it.

Twiggy, hope she lives a full life with you mate, it's hard going through tough things like this. I just learned myself to think what my mother would want me to be like.
