I don't like to say these things because I really want a vBF2 server but from what I see on the PoE server, I don't think this will happen much unless the players step it up. I cannot remember the last time I saw a Learn TG squad. Usually it is everyone sitting around until the last 30 seconds until round start when someone finally gives in and opens a squad that is then instantly filled with 5 other TGers. PoE server is slowly withering away because of this I think. People need to be willing to open up if this server is to work. I really hope that happens but I am pretty sceptical.

Dirt, before I messed up my hand {dam cast sucks} I would spend the afternoon or earlyer eveing playing on BFSupreme's, {yes I have no life}then when PR picked up around 2100 hrs EST I would jump on TG's server, if I was not feeling like getting my asre kicked on TG's 2142 server.
I do like the tatical play here, but it was refreshing to play alone at times as a sniper/counter sniper or set up someplace with a HMG and cause hell for a few moments before I get ganged killed.

I estimate;

• 2142 players would try it as a curiousity but not make it their regular game
• PR players are religious about their mod and maybe wont even try it
• Its closest to POE2 and would attract those players but they would feel a bit torn between two games for a while
• Ranked means no access to box so no modded scripts like in the good old days eg like the map bleed adjustments
• We can run squadless kick and SM slots off Panzer's 2142 punkbuster program
• BF2 is more popular than 2142, right this mintue 9,445 playing BF2 (including mods) and 4,225 playing 2142, I think this is to do with older hardware and lots of players have older hardware
• Squadless kick is a big jar of honey, if we had a ranked server with squadless kick but didnt seed it or promote it in any way, it could well still get popular
• If we had squadless kick + had people to seed daily + TG folk trying it for a month & squadleading + external marketing, then it would work
• Admin presence would be light at first and have to be built up
• When I imagine us having a busy BF2 server this autumn of TG folk, I see those folk being new to TG, I imagine existing TG folk dabbling with BF2 (for want of a better phrase)

I have both been an admin of a PR server and a high-traffic vBF2 server. I can tell you, it's a HUGE change. It's not the occasional TKer here and there, I'm talking at worst, every round there's someone TKing for vehicles, causing trouble.. etc. I have to agree with Ferris that our current admin team, though making up for quality what they lack in quantity, simply wouldn't be enough to provide the manpower to monitor a vBF2 server.

Now to be honest, I would actually play on it every once in a while. It's the "whenever I have nothing better to do" kinda thing. PR will still remain my main stomping grounds.

So my opinion? If there's enough interest, then go for it. Prepare for some real hardcore admining, though.

I play POE here, but would really jump at the chance to play vanilla BF2. I loves me some POE but most times when I get on the server only has 2-5 people on it. If running a vanilla server would get more people to play I'm all for it. You will have to have admins policing though. I don't think it would be a problem to get people to play the TG way.

lol Yep, that happens all the time. I'm not sure what's worse; that or what I've seen in BF2142 where a TG tagged person locks a squad and then invites all TG members in while the majority of the rest of the squads are completely adhoc and mostly a miss as far as squad play goes. 2142 obviously gets away with it because of the larger community playing the game still. POE2 is more under the microscope because we are the only real choice as far as a North America server goes.

Perhaps Tempus is right and longer term having a vBF2 server is a good advertising medium for us and we get more players overall as a result. However, if recruitment is a concern and a primary goal then certainly there must be other ways of going about it. A vBF2 player who isn't playing POE2 or some other mod is doing so out of choice or they simply aren't aware of the alternatives. IMO the real question is whether TG can get a stable playerbase for vBF2 plus the admin support it is going to need on an ongoing basis.

I seem to remember 2142 ser 2 is complimentary from wolf servers from the advertising they have on our forums. 2142 ser 2 has been quite for months, maybe it could be turned into bf2 vanilla ser 1.

as T says, a bf2 vanilla server is a good longer term strategy for feeding new players into poe 2

if we got a vanilla server it would be like the early days of 2142, ie the wild west, until we got regulars and educated them up in tg standards

There is nothing saying that this is going to happen or happen soon, at this point we are gauging interest and gathering feedback. Obviously, the more support there is for this, the better.

The only reason I want you to use a vbf2 server is cause PR doesn't work for me =(. I'm selfish like that lol j/k.
