Squad Leader Election and Notification
It was pretty obvious tonight that the game is missing the ability for squad leader election. A full squad of 6 we wanted to get asch as squad leader. So the current leader would leave the squad and rejoin. But alas the behavior wasn't what we'd expect as the next guy in line wouldn't just become the next squad leader (I am guessing it is based on rank).
Eventually to fix it asch created a new squad and we all joined up in there as he was the leader. That was really the only way to solve our problem. So here is my next gripe. A few times I was made the squad leader, but the notifcation is poor. Maybe I missed it, but it was just text. There needs to be some type of audio notfication or other visual clue that you just became the new squad leader. When asch left (where'd you go man? fist time playing with you and you ditched me) it was probably a good 30-45 seconds before I clued in that I was the squad leader. Anyway, gg. |

Re: Squad Leader Election and Notification
I think that was me who was squad leader of that first squad. I had no idea you guys wanted asch to lead else I'd have complied, so my bad there maybe. I just started that squad because noone else on MEC would squad up so i just took the initiative...and I wasn't really THAT bad was I?!? Given I'm probably not that great at it and it was only my 2nd time leading. I did however try to keep orders coming and organize as best I could at the time. :P

Re: Squad Leader Election and Notification
Actually you were good. This was later on after I switched back to USMC. I had a good time being on your squad, until I was commanded to join the -308- squad, which I did and nobody freaking talked to me which hurt my feelings so I went USMC on the next round and joined up with a bunch of TG guys.
My main gripes are with squad leaders and commanders is when they are not on comms. If you don't have a mic or are not willing to use it, then let someone else lead. It is so frustrating not hearing anything from your SL or COM. A good SL talks to his guys a lot, and keeps the COM informed on what is going on. A good COM updates the SL regularly. As a squad member I always like to hear the SL relay some type of info that I know could only come from the COM because it subtlely lets me know that the chain of command is intact. |

Re: Squad Leader Election and Notification
I would agree with that. I was a squad leader for my gaming session of BF2 last night and accidentally clicked to join USMC by accident during kit selection when as MEC. For some reason it wouldnt let me but I was still in MEC although I had automatically dropped outta squad because of clicking to join USMC.
I had to join my own squad again and then ask the guys to leave and rejoin. Very annoying but they were co-operative and got the job done. Election system would be ace is the main point! 8() |

1) Poor notification when you are the new SL. This happens to everyone and they just don't know it. It the lower left corner the text will say "Squad Leader" instead of "Squad Member" which is barely noticable. Most people don't realize it until a squad member speaks up or they get an order from the commander. 2) No way to designate a specific squad member as SL. As you mentioned, there are two ways to try and get someone else as squad member. Either each person quits and rejoins or someone starts a new squad. Quote:

I do that too, but I make sure to bow out when someone that is a better SL joins your team. Lucid Dreams joined my squad the other night, and I had no problem bowing out. He's a good SL. But if noone is squading up, that's against the rules. Tell an admin. |

Re: Squad Leader Election and Notification
My squad pretty much has this drill down to an art, until something more fitting presents itself:
"Everyone leave the squad NOW and don't return to the squad until Wyzcrak is the only person IN the squad." Once people understand that, it can be done in, literally, five seconds.

Re: Squad Leader Election and Notification
Have to agree with all the Squad leader comments that have been stated above. Another thing that bothers me however is how the game autobalances sides. There should be a check and all Non squad members should be the first switched instead of a total random grabbing.....
Really hurts when you've got a Great Squad/Leader and in the middle of a fight some of your team is autobalanced to the other side and you have no idea WTH happened. Good fun playing with some of you last night regardless. Looking forward to a lot more of it in the coming days. ![]()

There definitely needs to be a way for the current squad leader to hand over the position to someone of his choice. Until then, I just form a new squad and have people rejoin. I also seem to have the luck of being able to hop on the server and start a new squad, and within about a minute the group is all filled up. On a side note to Squad Leaders: Don't invite other SL's to your squad. I was giving orders to my squad in the middle of a fight yesterday, and someone invited me to their squad out of the blue. That's pretty silly, if you ask me. |

(If you have time, this is a nice tactic... create a squad and invite some unassigneds to it, then leave and create a new squad and repeat. Not as effective as people joining a squad on their own, but sometimes the heat of battle is too much for them I guess) |

Re: Squad Leader Election and Notification
The one time I tried to invite someone to my squad, it only gave me people who were unassigned, which is why I was surprised to get an invite. So either I had a glitch, or I was doing something wrong.

By the way Nemesis, you did one hell of a job holding that beach outpost w/those tanks during the last few rounds I played. You frustrated my squad to no end as we tried time after time to out you.

Re: Squad Leader Election and Notification
I believe on the invite list the players are either in grey or green. I thought one color meant on a squad and the other mean squad-less.
On a side note about creating squads.... a good way to get people to join your newly formed squad is to give it a custom name. I tend to look to those first, but that may just be me. If I see something with TG in the squad name, I'm there as fast as I can.
