Server Settings

If you have suggestions or would like to see some changes on the TG BF2 server, please post your comments here to keep them in an orderly and easily obtainable fashion and not shrewn out all over the forums. Thanks!

Ranked:
Has it been considered, or even possible, to make the TG server ranked? This way we can all play on our most enjoyable server and gain rank while we're at it

Tickets:
After playing last night for 90 minutes with 50 or so people, it seems to me as if the ticket count is too low. The round was typically ending in 20-30 minutes. I always found that right when the action started getting good and everyone started fitting their roles well on the map, the round ended because a team ran out of tickets.

Maybe we should consider increasing the amount by 1 or 2 hundred?

# of players:
Is it a possibility to run a 16 player server? This way, during the day when only a few are on, they could play on the 16 player map instead of the 64. And of course when the evening came around, they'd all switch over to the 64 player map. Too bad DICE doesn't have the server dynamically change the map size depending on the amount of players logged in at the time the round loads.

That's all I can think of right now. Any one else have suggestions for the server?

I believe this is currently under discussion amongst the admins.

Re: Ranked Server?

Unfortunately there is no easy way to simply become a "ranked" server. Based on a post from EAUK_Protagonist, not even servers rented by individuals from EA are ranked.

There are numerous discussions underway in both our Battlefield admin forums, the EA Battlefield 2 forums and private discussions with EA reps to determine what options exist. This process will take a little time as EA is not even sure yet how they are going to deal with the issue as it stands. They have a balancing act going on right now to make sure that all ranked servers are not being exploited by the admins/players to gain unearned rank and providing the ability for legitimate servers to be able to participate in the ranking system.

Re: Ranked Server?

I say just give it some time. It seems to be an issue that has a good number of people paying attention to it so it'd likely be best to simply sit back, enjoy the game, and wait to see what they do about it. But then again I wouldn't be able to do anything either way so maybe thats why my opinion is as it is

I only asked because I searched for ranked servers only and ECGNetwork.com server came up in the list with EA servers. It also showed the icon I believe to stand for ranked server. Maybe the server list screwed up and it really wasn't ranked, though.

So are there official (EA) forums that you can direct me to that discuss the whole becoming ranked thing? From what I've read here so far, it seems apparent that EA released a game with no actual plan to implement a key feature (ranking system) in the game. Bad business.

After playing last night we may want to consider the option of upping the tickets. It seemed like everytime each side got into a good battle - especially while getting accustomed to the new maps we'd be finished. We may want to try and extend the times and conditions for winning so the maps last a little longer.

Re: Ranked Server?

Could an admin please change the thread topic from 'Ranked Server' to 'Server Settings'

After posting just about the ranked server I decided it would be best to incorporate all server setting questions into one thread, instead of starting multiple ones. Maybe we could even have an official sticky thread on the subject?

Thanks!

Edit:
Thanks for changing the title, whomever you are!

Re: Ranked Server?

I was wondering if anyone has noticed any extra lag since moving to retail. I played the demo a few times on the TG server and it ran smooth as butter, but with retail last night I experienced a few stutters. Not just at TG, either, but at a few other full servers. There is some discussion that it has to do with ranked servers, but now I see TG isn't even a ranked server. Odd. Anyone else having similiar isssue? I'm using the same settings as with the demo, btw, because I copied my profile over. In fact, I even turned a few settings, like lighting and shadow, lower.

Oh, and thanks for running a kick arse server.

This is probably due solely to the new maps. The demo Oman map is a desert. It isn't that hard for your video card to render rolling hills of sand. But these new maps can have large amounts of vegetation, which can tax a video card quickly.

Yeah, that's probably it. Maybe it's time for a new video card.

Re: Server Settings

I fully concur with upping the ticket ratios. It seemed that on the majority of maps squads were just getting into the swing of things when BAM, the other team dies out. Now, there were some matches where the loosing team wasn't coming back from a 150 ticket deficit no matter what the ratio was, but it would still be nice to have the ratios high enough that the map could be played for a good long while (20-30 mins). This would be especially nice since the game is so new and shiny and people tend to want to explore their surroundings..
