It's you guys that make the squad what it is; all I do is yap at ya.

By the way, apologies to all my CO's on being slow to get to a particular objective. Without fail, my guys always run into an enemy squad while en route to our objective, and by the time we finish them our objective has usually been obtained by another group. I also like to be slow and cautious instead of just "rushing" at something.
That's part of what makes your squads so much fun (for me, anyway). Constant "zerging" can get a bit tiresome so these little "forays" can help break up the monotony.

in fact, sorry for dropping out on you guys last night when we were on one of these forays. Cripes, we were just about to raid that base and I was on point with ____ (sorry, forgot the other guy!) when I was blindsided by a BF2 CTD (it happened when I rt-clicked on the SPOTTED menu) and I just decided to hit the sack after that.

Bah. Stupid bugs.

That's to be expected when in a combat situation. The best thing you can do is inform your commander that you are under attack and always keep him informed on your progress. If you can't make it and another squad does, and you let him know, he may have somewhere else for you to go.

Re: Be like Tarpan!

Wow...thanks to Phelan Ward & Turbosol16 for their positive remarks! I'm new to this whole genre of FPS....never played any of the other BF games, so I didn't go looking to be a SL...just had to out of necessity; no one else wanted the job! Since playing CS:S with TG, i learned early on from the vets around here to communicate with my teammates often....so the hardest part for me was leading from behind...so as not to get my arse shot off. Started doing a lot of hiding as a SL....when i get to an enemy held base, i try to duck into a building or bunker till the squad gains a foothold and the flag is secure. I'd DEFINITELY like to play with Tarpan so i can learn from such an esteemed leader...i still have a LONG way to go. Anyhow, thanks again to the guys that have played in my squad over the past few days....we had some wicked fire fights and great teamwork throughout! oh, and to anyone who was riding in my jeep when i crashed it into the river and killed us all...Sorry!

Re: Be like Tarpan!

NO! SmokingTarpan is teh sux! He has no idea what he's doing, he's a total n00b! And he sounds like an annoying ten year old, always screaming and whining over VOIP. It's soooo annoying, I can't stand it. And he teamkills! And, uh, blows up vehicles if he can't pilot them. And spawncamps the enemy's main base!

<sigh> Alright, fine... I was just spreading propaganda so his squad wouldn't *always* be full whenever I log on. Tarpan's awesome at coordinating his squad. While he might say that it all comes down to good commanders and squadmates listening to his orders, I think he's able to take a mediocre player and turn them into a valuable asset via his direction. Ultimately, this benefits everyone since those players will pick up on how important strategy and coordination is in this game.

Holding that flag last night was fantastically epic. I just came in from playing on the public ranked servers, where I had been jumping around from squad to squad looking for ANYONE who was actually coordinating ANYTHING. The few squads that actively used VOIP just acted like a group of players over Teamspeak or Ventrilo, with no particular direction. The leader never set objectives, or maneuvered players into positions. Tarpan does all that, and it makes a huge difference in gameplay.

I hope TG can become a ranked server, because then we can get the best of both worlds.

Re: Be like Tarpan!

Heh, yeah, that was a good round last night. I didn't have a mic so it was harder to feel really into it. I know I've still got a lot to work on, learning the various strategies of the classes, but yeah, it's fun. I've gotta say one of the most useful things (I found) is spotting, it sure can be a huge help when everyone's pointing out troup locations.
That was pretty funny when we went off the bridge Dirt, I thought we might make it to the shallow water, but nope. ;D

Well, off to read up on strats, until tomorrow night everyone, have fun.

Nick

PS: I guess I should've actually replied with some thoughts on the thread topic, oh well.
