Be like Tarpan!

Tarpan's a great example of a squad leader!

All potential squad leaders should play on his team and check his action out. WOnder how you'd do as commander?

Nice work last night up on the hill holding that spot, that was killer. The enemy was completly unable to get that flag from us! They tried so many things, but nope, no one was breaking through ! Excellent.

Re: Be like Tarpan!

As a Commander, I can assure you all that Tarpan is a great SL. He is very competent and patient, and can be completely trusted to follow orders. He gives feedback, asks for things only when needed, and gets the job done.

And if you happen to be in his squad, you will really see where his strengths are , as he expertly guides his troops into battle. With him, it's not just a waypoint. He will direct his men to make best use of their class. He will strategically move from structure to structure. And should you die, he will survive long enough for his squad to spawn back on him.

Devilman speaks the truth.

All true!

I remember playing on the demo and I was lucky enough to be in Tarpan's squad....

Re: Be like Tarpan!

I was trying too but his squad was filled up all night. I will say that |TG|Dirt013 is also a good SL, we defended a flag for about 15min and I dont think he died once but he sure was killing them.

Re: Be like Tarpan!

Very true, Tarpan is an awesome SL and I really enjoy being in his squads. But let's not set the standards too high for us regular schmoes, eh?!

The micromanagement of individual squaddies is wonderful but I just want to see more SL's using the tools they have at their disposal. I get annoyed quickly with SL's that do absolutely nothing.

If it were up to me, I'd make the SL standards more easily attainable for regular humans:

* use the comms (VOIP, Commo Rose)
* go with a support class (Medic, Support, Engie)
* set waypoints
* keep the squad together
* hang back and provide a secure spawn point

Or we can just clone Tarpan.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Speaking of monkeys, has anyone else noticed that when a tank reloads the big gun it makes a sound a like screaming monkey?

|TG| Dirt013 did an very good job last night. The foggy bamboo map was a blast. I just wish more people would chatter on the radio. It was mostly just me and him with one or two other guys pipping in once or twice.

I still want to get onto tarpan's squad one of these days. He was full up last night.

Re: Be like Tarpan!

I just wanted to say I was in Tarpan's squad for about 4 hours last night, and he is a great SL. You always know where he needs you and keeps the squad in position to support each other.

Damn, this game's causing me to lose alot of sleep.....

Hey, are you talking abuot the hill in the center of the huge wide open map with wetlands/marshes all over the fields and the neutral airbase? If so, I think we were the second squad up there with you guys. Just because of the hill battles, this map is now my fav. Constant bombings from jets and enemies sneaking up the pathways. Plus buggies galore to rip it around in the fields, catching troops with their pants down.

Wulfyn is a wicked squad leader too. He's not like what Tarpan sounds like, but he keeps us informed and up to date with his mike and the communication is wicked. A real team player.

Re: Be like Tarpan!

I'm only as good as my squad members and my CO allow me to be. It's no use giving orders if my people won't follow them, and it's useless to do anything unless the CO will back me up and tell me where he needs me.

It's you guys that make the squad what it is; all I do is yap at ya.

By the way, apologies to all my CO's on being slow to get to a particular objective. Without fail, my guys always run into an enemy squad while en route to our objective, and by the time we finish them our objective has usually been obtained by another group. I also like to be slow and cautious instead of just "rushing" at something.
