I like stats but I don't like seeing what the scoreboard is doing to logic and teamwork. Even here at TG we're not immune to the temptation of trying to run up one's score to be a bit higher on the scoreboard when the fat lady sings. I don't blame anyone for doing it--it's only natural to want to be near the top but I hate seeing people do it at the expense of sound tactics and teamwork.
I cringe every time I see 3-4 Medics running into a crossfire to revive the same fallen teammate only to have them all cut down as a result. I cringe when I shoot an enemy dead and suddenly a medic appears to revive him and so I drop the medic and then rekill the guy he just revived! I cringe every time I (yes, me!) hop into a HUMVEE alone on Sharqi and drive it up the road behind Hill Flag to get a handful of kills with the .50 cal before getting shot myself. I blame the scoreboard for this illogical, non-teamwork behavior. Some players just want to be tops so badly that they toss all logic and tactics to the wind to achieve it . Then there are those that try to have teamwork as a priority but still don't want to appear on the scoreboard as a useless schlub so they may fall prey to the temptation as well. The way I see it, as long as we have the scoreboard we're gonna have many players fretting over their final score and that takes away from the real purpose of TG, IMHO. The scoreboard is evil! Therefore I'm casting my vote to remove the scoreboard so we can get back to basics. |

Re: Toss the scoreboard out the window!
I love your idea, but how could we get rid of the Scoreboard?

Re: Toss the scoreboard out the window!
I hardly even look at the scoreboard.. Who has time? And during map change, the thing goes by too fast anyway.

Re: Toss the scoreboard out the window!
Personally, I love to see my squad as top squad on the scoreboard. Even more, I like seeing my squad members in the various top positions on the scoreboard. I've never had my guys go rambo style to get there though, and I certainly don't decide to do my own thing as a SL.
Every time my squad has been top squad, we were on defense for 80% of the time or more. I don't think I've ever earned a good score being on offense. Maybe I'm just lucky in that I have good squad members that don't go all rambo during the game, but I haven't seen a lot of "build up my score" action. Since the server is unranked, score means little except for the props of knowing you did a good job numerically (which is not the same as having actually done a good job). If other people see it as a problem though, I guess I don't care if it goes away. If it can go away, that is. |

People (myself included) think: "I'm a medic, I see a flashing cross over there, it's my job to revive him, off I go!" It takes discipline to have the situational awareness to know this is a bad idea sometimes.

Re: Toss the scoreboard out the window!
Funny thing. I was in an APC and wasted a squad running up the middle of a mountian road. Well all but their medic who was in the trees off to the left side. I didn't see him untill he ran over to his squad mate in the middle of the road and revived him. I tried to shoot him as he ran over but the guy was fast. He revived his squaddie and ran back to the trees. I then shot his squaddie again. He then ran back out to revive. This happened FOUR times before I managed to get him. I laughed pretty hard at the whole situation. I bet he did too. I don't think he was doing it for points either. When you play a medic on TG you get an unnatural urge to run in and help fallen friends without regard to your own safety. And the fact that people are inspired to do this on our server make me happy.

Re: Toss the scoreboard out the window!
I think the running scoreboard (in game, keeping track) is the biggest hinderance to team play because too many people will get careless during the game just to notch up their score. I'd suggest (to EA) - elimante the ability to check individual scores during gameplay. Like any test, you only get tallied at the end.

Re: Toss the scoreboard out the window!
Hey when I charge out as a medic, it's not for score, it's just a "Hey! that dude's dead! I'm a medic!" sort of thing. I'm getting better at the whole situational awareness thing. I will probably be a bit more impulsive if the SL is dead, that's kinda an all or nothing situation.
The only time I use scoreboard is to check the ping when I get teleporting infantry and vehicles. |

Usually what happens is just what I've pointed out earlier: that the medic revives the fallen then gets killed himself, then the revived player gets killed again...and then another medic runs out and the cycle repeats. I'm not saying all medics are stat whores but I would like to see a little more fear of death when it's practically imminent. Running into the middle of a blazing battle usually just ends up with more kills for the other side and more ticket loss for your own. Courageous, yes, but also counter-productive in many cases. Anyway, I like the idea of having Squad stats at the end, giving props to the squads that really work together. Instead of individual stats, I'd like to see some sort of system that gives out "squad points", taking into account squads that stick together and work as a team. |

One exception might be squad leaders. Sometimes it might be worth the risk to get those guys back up and into the action since they are mobile spawn points. As far as the scoreboard goes, i have to admit when I first started playing I was fairly concerned about it. I felt that when I got low scores that it was an indication of my overall contribution to the team. I soon learned this is not the case at all and therefore being low on the scoreboard stopped bothering me as much. I guess what I am saying is that I think it is cool to have some way of evaluating your performance but, I don't think the current scoreboard is an accurate way of doing it. -Aces&Eights |

Re: Toss the scoreboard out the window!
It all depends on the situation -- if I'm playing a medic, and my squad leader just got shot, hell yeah I'm gonna dash out there and try to revive him, even if I will probably get killed -- not because I'm stat whoring, but because our assault fails if he's gone.
Or, if there's a squad coming at us on foot and there's a chance I can bring back the guy with the SAW, well, same deal. If you only ever did revives when it was safe... well, you'd never do it, 'cause if someone just killed Bob, it probably isn't very safe there now, is it?
