Re: Want to host a ranked server? better bend over
While EA has instituted measures for a fair ranking environment, it doesn't enforce teamwork and it definitely should require 100% FF. It's just a secure server with restricted settings. Rank means nothing when it doesn't measure how well you work in a team. Gaining rank is tedious and not as enjoyable as playing on a server that has measures to enforce teamwork.

Re: Want to host a ranked server? better bend over
Can someone explain the concept behind this term "rank" ? Players yearn for this arbitrary number beside their name, this measley measuring stick that in some miniscule way well help them usher in meaning to their lives, to loudly proclaim they've got some damn fine wrist and finger reflexes that can in their wildest dreams may save hte world from an eternal unranked and fun hell?
In a certain combat flight sim community, we apply to those that obsess over rank a title: the dubious honor of 'sky accountant.' Or a less exclusive term would simply be score whore. Do away with 'rank' altogether I say. Why is this 'ranking' so coveted? In a pool so large as this (what 1.5m ranked players?), any glorious leaps of arbitrary numbers might seem rather watered down. For me it's such a foggy concept - putting in so much time and energy for more obscurity. Suuure, you get nifty weapons! Yipee! Two weeks later you're unsatisfied with your little trophy and strive for yet another number to exchange the current. Again. And again. And again. Burnout settles in and you move on. Even if you're a one-in-a-million guy with uber rank - there are 1000s just like ya. Score whores are rank... smelling. Are individuals so few and far between? Seriously folks, what is so fascinating with rank? Any extra income involved? If so, I may weigh a retraction. |

Amen. If you look at the TotalBF forums, most of the posts are about who's got what rank/ribbon, point totals, and point scammers/cheats. It's killer to play on a server where none of that matters and you're just in the moment in the game. |

Re: Want to host a ranked server? better bend over
Added to all this is that as there is no negatives for death, rank will always be granted to those that are happy to die lots at the expense of their team as long as they get more kills.
Rank will become something for those prepared to spend the whole game doing 'teamwork' stuff like healing/repairing, or simply a measure of how long someone has been playing. It's meaningless. Anyone could get the top rank just by playing 24/7 no matter how rubbish they might be. Scrap the ranks - I am so glad TG is unranked. |
