Re: Wearing Tags
I actually read the sops and a good chunk of the current forum topics before i ever even played on the server. then, after i played here a few times i couldnt even stand to be on a public ranked server....i mean its not even remotely fun anymore..(some of those people play like its a job or something..like ea's gonna give money out to the people with the highest stats)
Anyway long story short i could quickly see that tg was home now and as long as i can be, ill be here. So i wear the |TG| tag both with respect and admiration for the hard work everyone here does and with thanks for giving me a place to call home, not as a status symbol BTW im a fine art major (ie. drawing painting photography etc..) so if anyone ever needs original artwork, especially for the community, let me give somethin back! |

Re: Wearing Tags
I wear the tags because I like the community and the game is more fun on TG. Plus when the inevitible questions happen:
Why do I get booted every 60 seconds? What's a Jet squad? Everyone is in a squad? It helps new players identify who can answer them.

i said something to the guys on TS tonight about that and they agreed...to many people are wearing it that dont really read or follow the rules of these servers.

I'm not sure what I think about the use of the tags by people who play on the server once a week and don't seem to completely represent TG. TG is for everyone and I'm sure alot of people don't want the tags to only be for the elite players. Its crossed my mind that maybe there should be some sort of restiction or veting procedure for people who want to use the tags. Maybe a minimum of 20 posts on the forum or something. I am aware that there will be strong opinions for both sides of the argument. We want to keep TG with its excellent reputation but we don't want people to think they arn't worthy of playing here. We do however still have the inhouse guys (1st MIP, 7th,42nd etc). We know these guys to be hardcore at least. I have not made up my mind on this.

Moreover, I'm not of the opinion that the TG tag is well known beyond the TG servers. I played a lot of BF2 before joining TG, and don't recall ever seeing one; for clarity: I probably did, I just don't remember it. I certainly don't remember being impressed by (as opposed to just noticing) a TG tag, and I absolutely don't remember any folks with TG playing in a particular way. As a pubbie, I only focused on the score. TG is, obviously, well recognized around here. More to the point however, is that the people here (I think) pay less attention to tags, and more attention the way the guy/gal actually plays. Outside of being kicked from a server due to an SM login, I'm not convinced "TG" buys anyone any respect. "Wow, even though [TG] Diceman_01 just told me to stick my orders where the sun don't shine, and is off on the other side of the map not contributing whatsoever to the squad objectives, he must be a great teamplayer because of the TG tag." What builds respect is in-game behaviour, and the names that people always see attached to certain actions. For instance, when I see (examples only; there are dozens of players that command a very sincere respect from me) marstein, shockGun or Dark Viper on my squad, then I am really happy to be working with them. I've worked with them before, and I have a pretty good idea of how capable they are, both as players and as embracing TG values. But I don't think any of them wear the TG tags. Heck, I didn't even wear the tags until I joined the 7th. Let me draw to a close: in practice, the TG tag doesn't confer on you any respect. All it does is serve to elevate expectations of your style of play; not that you will be headshoting people from across the map, or cap 100% of your objectives, but that you publicly commit to be where you're needed, when you're needed or to die trying. Wearing the TG tag and being a jackal about it won't cut you any slack, it will just upset the admins more as they kick you for failing to "get with the program." Dice. ps. Hrm, writing this post has got me thinking about another tread to start; Positive TG play.
