Inquisitive NewB

As a NewB to this forum who is very much enjoying what you have to offer, I have two questions. First of all how did TG come into existence? What game got the wheels turning? If this is somewhere in a threads archive could you point me in that direction.

Myself, I remember the first person game that I ever played was Wolfenstein, running around hallways and secret passages blowing things up on my 386-40 with 4 Megs of RAM and a 40 MB hard drive =-)

Second question. The first night that I was playing on TG, before I even new there was a forum, I was made a squad leader after several rounds. Is this done randomly if the squad leader drops out of the game, is it done by the commander….? I very much enjoyed the experience and just wanted to know how to work towards that position again.

Thanks.

If you are in a squad and the SL drops out, it randomally chooses who the next SL will be.

If you would like to be a SL, you can create your own squad and let others join under you.

Re: Inquisitive NewB

When I got here several years ago, it was for Counter Strike. I believe they had Quake or something before that.

2605 posts Tempus.....ya you've been around a while =-)
WHAT...you mean there was no Wolfenstein or petman server!!!

Anyone have a PET computer.......
They were around before commador 64's.
Petman....a version of space invadors. Then came the commador 64 and Moon Patrol. I was hooked and since then have blown zillions on mind numbing games and computers all under the ruze (spelling?) that I do video editing. My wife still thinks my five computers are somehow used to edit home videos yet I have only produced one DVD in 4 years even though I work in my "office" at least 10 hours a week.....I'm rambling.

Re: Inquisitive NewB

I had the black and white Pong video game (seriously!). Does that count? :P From there I had:

Atari 2600
Atari 400 (had 16K memory. I installed a 32K memory card with a soldering gun when I was ready for an upgrade!)
Intellivision
Atari 800
Atari ST 512 (five-twelve as in memory...still in KILOBYTES!)
IBM PC XT clone
IBM PC 286 clone (cost me something like $1200 w/out monitor)
IBM PC 486
etc
etc
etc

Wow, memories...

Re: Inquisitive NewB

I wouldn't know where to start really but right now I have a P4 3.0 at 3.3 with 1/2 a TB of HD and a gig of RAM along with an Athlon XP 3800+ at 2.6 GH on a KVM switch with two monitors on my desk, a P4 2.8 and an Athlon 1GH on the desk behind me as well as various pieces of junk all over the house.

In between the present and my first PEt computer...the only one that stands out is my beloved 386 40MH. That is the first computer that I ripped open and played with. Believe it or not my Mom still uses it as a word processecor. Of course I've heard that the space shuttle runs off of 386 computers so hey!

My best/worst memory is a 32MB upgrade in about 1990/91. I paid $800 Canadian for it!!! I have the reciept to prove it. But man did my Pentium 100 fly!!!!

I think I got you "old Schoolers" beat. My first system was the Magnavox Odyssey. The first home VG console ever made.

That's the one I had! I had Pong (Table Tennis) and the Shooting Gallery game with the shotgun.

Re: Inquisitive NewB

XLII (aka TG) was born from a dream concocted from messages on Usenet or something like that. From that dream, CS players could find truly professional gaming. Then there was a period of darkness when GR came along. Many CS players joined the dark side. After that TG was born and here we are today.

Look at what I still have:

Re: Inquisitive NewB

Wow. Ok then.
Amazing how these things evolve.
So is TG stationed in the U.S. or Canada? Is there an original CREATOR or was the TG a creation of several ambitous members?

This teamspeak thing obviously still exists because I have read about it in your forumns. Do people still use it during game play to talk to each other even though BF2 has built in VOIP?
