landot AAS mod

This could be interesting for you tactical gamers:

http://landot.org:8080/landot/bf2/document_view

The Server IP: 212.38.234.41:16567

The server has been modded quite a bit, for example some vehicles are disabled, there is no commander and so on. All the mods are server side mods only, so you don't need to download anything.

But the most important difference to most other BF2 servers is the landot AAS-mod. The mod changes the gameplay more towards the gameplay of AAS (Advance and Secure) mode in another popular FPS game, which basically means that flags can only be taken in certain predefined order.

List of some of the server features and modifications (most likely incomplete):

* landot AAS-mod
* landot sniper limit
* Tanks, APCs, etc attack vehicles disabled
* More than 16 players on 16 player maps
* Capturing a flag takes a bit longer
* Soldier jump height reduced

Re: landot AAS mod

I like the idea of only being able to capture flags on the front lines. It gives a better sense of battle and will cause some awesome shootouts to occur. I bore of this whack-a-mole stuff we do. Planetside had this exact same problem and they answered it by only allowing enemies to capture bases that were linked to their own in a lattice network or that went neutral because the base ran out of power.

I don't agree with disabling tanks and APCs. They are a key asset and are not over powered.

We don't have a sniper issue that I've ever seen, so I think we're fine there.

Increased flag capture and reduced soldier jumping sound nice.

I wouldn't mind trying the mod to prevent back flags from being captured. It would really create some nice push and pull battles where everyone is fighting on the front lines. Would be awesome. Maybe we could try it on the private server? We can only download and install the landot AAS-mod so everything else stays the same and only the capturing changes.

Some of the ideas sound interesting, but no commander is about as anti-TG as you can get. No commander = no squad coordination = free-for-all-squad-fest.

I like the concept, however I can only image what it would be like to have 32 players from each side working on the same flag. Some flags are in small areas that would really make it hard for the battle to go further than that one flag.

But we can just download the landot AAS-mod to only change how we can capture flags. Everything else would stay the same.

Unless the modder is an idiot, I'd konw he'd at least allow 2 flags to be captured if not 3. It just helps keep the battle to the front lines. Then again, he may not. He doesn't seem to explain it that much.

I'd say it's always worth a shot on the private server just to see how the flag capturing works. Who knows...it may even be an incentive for supporting members to try out a new gameplay type

Re: landot AAS mod

Flanking into the enemy's rear AO and taking a CP is classic Cavalry Ops.
Joined CP's that keep a linear "front-line" is a fun game mechanic, but is just that.

An artificial game mechanic that doesn't reflect the fluidity of the modern battlefield.
But I can understand the frustration level some folks feel when a base goes gray due to poor security on the avenues of approach...defense in depth seems to be lacking in most online games...who wants to be the guy stuck at a boring flag while the other guys are kicking ass?

But limiting the jump height sounds cool.

True, flanking can occur in real life, but also in real life we'd have 1000s or at least 100s of troops at our disposal and important sites would be heavily defended. The capturing of flags on the front lines just helps to simulate that. Now I agree that some circumstance shoudl allow enemies to capture a flag behind the lines, because it is possible...but it should be extremely difficult, as it would be in real life. Not just stroll on in and take it, like it currently is. What that circumstance could be, I don't know. In planetside, it was to make the base go neutral by losing power. Which was very difficult and time consuming (20 minutes avg) to do. Maybe it could be done by increasing the amount of time a rear flag can be captured to 5 or 10 minutes to give defenses time to respond to a rear attack.

It is my belief that most rear attacks should fail.
