Passworded server - why bother?

Man, I just joined up on the passworded server.
Immediately, I notice 2 things:
1. No commander
2. There's no "Bomber" or "Air Force" squad, and the jets are being flown by people in a mixed infantry squad.

Sheesh. I'm disgusted. That seems just one hair better than the pubs. If I saw those two egregious infractions within the first 10 seconds, what other smacktarded problems are occurring that I'll see in the next 10 minutes?

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

Re: Passworded server - why bother?

No commander is not something that anyone can fix.. We need more commanders.

If there are issues that need admin attention, bring it up on TS so an admin can take action.

Otherwise, lead by example. Show others how good things can be once things get organized. Others will follow suit.

#1 is an issue, certainly. Was it early in the game perhaps, where no commander had yet been appointed? Or maybe the old comm lagged out and a new one had not yet taken his place?

#2 is not an issue. Air support is not in any way required to be in its own squad; it's often helpful if it is, but it's not a requisite.

Did you stay 10 seconds, or 10 minutes?

Man, I had a good time tonight, even though we on MEC got our collective rears handed to us on Mashtur, but only because of the BH. The round before that MEC won by like 3 or 4 points (time ran out). We had a commander on that one (Karkand), but I'm not sure if we had one on Mashtur or not.

It's very rare that gameplay is "perfect" and everyone does exactly as they are told, but I have yet to see anywhere else come even close to here.

Re: Passworded server - why bother?

I just came out of that game. We didn't have a commander for the majority of the game but the squad I was in really stuck together. Beatnik kept us going with different objectives and doing the right thing. A couple times I did wonder what the other squads were doing since other flags kept going down. I think squad 2 was doing a pretty good job. We were working together a couple of times.

We were lucky to win and Orion did step in to command for the last 15 minutes or so. I don't know how we held on. I guess it was my squad holding on to one flag since MEC needed all of them to count down our tickets. It definitely wasn't the most organized game of the night.

Re: Passworded server - why bother?

It was probably the air support

It takes a community to keep the smacktards out... A publicly posted password only does so much... What did you do to fix the problem? I realize it's not your job to fix anything, but our servers cannot thrive with the type of gameplay that we want without community support.

You know what they say: If you're not part of the solution...

Re: Passworded server - why bother?

The MEC were EXTREMELY disorganized tonight, but it was not entirely the lack of CO support.

As long as you have the USMC jackals take all the air support out of the MEC USB, what hope can you really have? Late in the game, we had one attack chopper on our side. The rest, all the jets, everything, was controleld by USMC. It's just becomes a slaughter.

EDIT: Took out some inflamatory stuff that I was venting.

After we didn't have a CO, I stepped into the position. Shortly there after, we lost one of the flags with our assets. We could barely hold onto the other. Most of the map I had no eyes whatsoever. It was very rough to maneuver the squads because I didn't know what flags were open, where the enemy was, etc.

The commander spot was open then for you to take and lead the rest of the team. Why did you not step into it?

Re: Passworded server - why bother?

I commanded part of the USMC tonight and the first game was hair raisingly close, the second was a walk and the rest in between. Pretty good fun, some of the games all the squads were being well oiled machines. I was thankful though at least each time I commanded I had 4 good squads. Although I must admit commanding for 4 hours straight does make one want to actually shoot someone instead of star at dots

Re: Passworded server - why bother?

people dont go commander because they are scared people will get chitty with them for the odd team kill, even though ya kill 20 enemies whle ya at it. i think some common sense needs to come into play when nooby CO's take the post. instead of hacking into them, teach them. I have given up playing commander after i got shreaded to pieces by some tool in my team saying: "u would be better wearing a nappy and carrying a bottle seen as u cant do much else". so i shot him in the head and left. its people like this that stop people from going CO and i'm affraid people just arent gunna change.

Re: Passworded server - why bother?

Asch,

The small city map? I had a dedicated squad that held that flag. Its hard to play without anything, I did it just a few minutes ago. It was the dedicated BH squad, that I think...Rincewind lead? Forgive if that is wrong, that really took the cake. The power of a BH squad that runs well is THE MOST POWERFUL THING IN THE GAME. You were right most of the time to try to take some of the undefended flags, but I could see your troops and before they could fully take the flag the BH was there.
