Stop the incessant commander votekicks

I'm getting sick of seeing "moron is electing to kick niceguy from commanding - if you're a noob, hit page up to agree!"

How is anyone meant to learn how to command if people are constantly trying to remove them? Why didn't that person apply when we didn't have a commander? I don't care how badly the commander is doing but I do know that bitching about him is going to

A) Give him no confidence to come back again and oh look - one less potential commander.

B) Isn't giving him/her the environment with which to learn.

Playing on TG's servers is a privilige, not a right. With that privilge comes an obligation to show some respect. We're all here to have fun but we can't all command. If someone steps up to do it, then tough luck. They do it until the end of the map or until they wish to leave. Next map rotation you get to apply.

But constantly initiating votes, rather than just playing the game is getting who where? Yesterday on TG I played 3-4 hours solid. Every map there were these votes going out, pretty much none stop.

Commanding can be a thankless task and people need to learn how to do it. So give them a break please and show some support - at least they stepped up to do the job.

Re: Stop the incessant commander votekicks

Maybe we could have a system whereby if a CO is kicked, the person initiating the vote is put into place instead. Not necessarily a workable solution, but it could help stop people fromvoting out the CO only to not fill in his shoes. There are problems of course (he could leave right away, would force SL to leave their squad if they initiated a vote to kick a really bad CO, and I have seen CO's quit due to the number of votes being initiated against him, even though they were all far from forcing him out).

I think a few other people have had ideas on this.

But I agree with your sentiment, I can cope with a CO that is playing there for the first time and is learning the ropes. This is all about teamwork (which is still more important than winning). I certainly hope that if I ever have a go at CO my team will show me some patience.

Re: Stop the incessant commander votekicks

I'm pretty sure none of the people who would read this are the ones doing the votekicks.

As it becomes possible, we will make it so that only SLs can issue mutinies.

Re: Stop the incessant commander votekicks

I was trying to click join squad alpha and by mistake I clicked the mutiny, but I told the commander I was sorry and thankfully only like 2 other people voted with me, but when I was CO later on I saw some people voting against me 24/7, and I really wish they'd just tell me why they wanted me out, I mean none of the SLs said I was doing a bad (trust me, they do!) job and we even won the round. =/

Re: Stop the incessant commander votekicks

Even if SL's could issue mutinies, there could still be players that don't respect a commander's hard work. The first time I commanded, one of the SL's told me to stop commanding. He didn't mention what I was doing wrong just plainly stated that I should leave. Oh, we won the round too so I must have been doing something right.

I have this dream of modding it out as Tempus describes, but it's still a dream thus far; I've yet to find a way to hook into voting, and google says that no one else has either.

Almost certainly so, but I would also make a plea regarding map votes. Lately it seems someone always begins a vote on making Karkand the next map. Fair enough, but it never passes and then 5 or 6 people in a row start the vote again. Because of the high vote threshold in BF2 I have never actually seen any vote for anything pass anyway. So, please refrain from starting a vote on something that was just turned down. It all just becomes screen spam.

This is usually done by pubs, who bring their bad manners onto our server. I'd say that if someone repeatedly spams/initiates a kick, an admin should kick them.

If I notice the same player constantly initiating a vote I will kick them for spamming.

Because they're ranked server devotees that can't have a complete gaming experience without trying to cause chaos and grief.

The thing that I hate is when someone puts up a kick vote, and then a CO gives me an order shortly after. I hit Page Up to accept the order, and it ends up making me vote to kick the person first. Thankfully, I don't think anyone has been kicked due to this.

Re: Stop the incessant commander votekicks

I don't support votekicks at all. When I first started playing with TG people I was in a GR game with Para...*cough* *cough*...sorry had something caught in my throat... and Luna and they said "well you've been around here long enough you're the TL this map." I was not a happy camper and felt totally put on the spot.

THAT is the way TG operates. If someone is a newbie, the vets teach and support them. If someone wants to learn how to be a good commander, the vets lend their expertise and suggestions.

This whole votekick thing is a nuisance.

Yeah Tarpan.... After trying to accept orders from CO and seeing the message "Voted Yes" I turned off the voting thing.

I recommend adding a note to this effect to the BF2 FAQs in our required reading section.

Re: Stop the incessant commander votekicks

Regarding the map votes..

I'm almost inclined to think there's a bug going on somewhere.. The other day, I set the admin tool to have the next map be a map different from the one scheduled in the rotation.. I then noticed about 15 straight map-votes for that map by different players who JUST joined the server.. Almost as if on connect, it was issueing a map-vote.

its get very annoying when someone wants to vote a CO out..and when he its kicked out or resigns, that person doesnt even take over the job.
