Patch 1.02 - Skeptical, but Runs Great
I was skeptical about this patch for obvious reasons, but I DL'd it yesterday and I'm running super smooth. I also realized that the internet connection default in the options menu is set to T1, which is weird, so I changed it to the DSL (or whatever it's called) and my machine is running great. My specs are just decent too:

Re: Patch 1.02 - Skeptical, but Runs Great
Huh. Maybe I should try DSL instead of T1.
My connection speed is 6000/768, which I can get 6000/650ish in real world. Maybe the T1 is what is causing the jagginess in characters that happens now and again since the patch. Anyone know what the difference is from DSL and T1? What does the BF2 code do differently?

Re: Patch 1.02 - Skeptical, but Runs Great
I would think, from knowing the guys who made EQ2, and other online games, a slower connection setting will send packets to/from your PC less frequently, and relying more on client-side prediction to fill in the gaps.
Or, the packets could contain a mixed bag of goodies: The T1 setting has all of the relevant info sent with every packet sent. Whereas the DSL setting might have all of the relevant info for your player with every packet, and only send environment (arty impact info, and anything else not in your immediate vicinity) sent every 2 or 3 packets. thus, thinning out the bandwidth requirements while still giving you good gameplay.

Re: Patch 1.02 - Skeptical, but Runs Great
So, gameplay wise, should it be considered that I'd be at a greater advantage if I have it on T1 instead of DSL...or would it make no difference?

Re: Patch 1.02 - Skeptical, but Runs Great
I'll give DSL a try. Maybe then my recent character jagging will end. If i seem to be less effective in battle then I'll just change back to T1.
See you all tonight in the semi-private server! Be there!

Yes, I've noticed things seem much smoother playing at DSL settings myself. I highly recommend it unless you're playing with friends at a LAN party.

Re: Patch 1.02 - Skeptical, but Runs Great
OK. So last night I ran as DSL. I don't know if this is related, but this major issue arose that I never had before.
On FuShe pass, I was being attacked by a tank and an APC and I could not see them! Their name would appear, but their vehicle would be invisible. They were at a distance and pretty far away, which is what made me think the DSL link saves bandwidth by not transmitting things far away from your position? I've never had this issue before and my view distance is 100 while my geometry is HIGH (which according to Tweaks is what draws vehicles at a great distance). So my issue is they could see me while I couldn't see them. I've never had this problem. However, when I turned the DSL back to T1, I was still having this issue. Maybe it was a graphical bug on FuShe? Maybe I'm not able to change between DSL and T1 while playing, even though it gives me the option? I wasn't able to test it, because on the next map load it was Karkland (which was upon my request so I'm not complaining )and you can't see great distances like you can in FuShe.

I have hit the view maximum before. Do you have your draw distance set all the way up to max in your video options?
