Tarpan (or other experienced CO's), question

The other night on Karkand when you were commanding you were telling SL's "i'm spotting enemies for you" and then I'd hear "infantry spotted" and I'd see them pop up on the map. How were you doing this? Do you zoom in on a point and use the Q button just like if you were a regular foot soldier? I have never tried it while CO. I am familiar with zooming in to the level of seeing people, but have never tried hitting the Q button to use the spotted command. Does this work?

Right click... one of the options is Spotted. Does not have to be very precise... Just click on the general area and spot em, that should light em up.

Re: Tarpan (or other experienced CO's), question

yea, i never zoom in all the way and spot the guy, I usually run a scan and if I cant get a UAV, I just right click on the dots after a scan and hit spotted. Zooming in all the way takes too much time and if you are close enough(zoomed out) the spotted command works.

If theres a bunch of guys coming towards a flag, i usually will spot one or two and tell that squad they are coming in from that side

Yea, I usually just do a radar scan and then start right-click spotting like mad until they disappear from my map.

Zooming all the way in has its uses, though. If I don't have UAV or scan available, I'll zoom in on a flag and start manually spotting enemies. It's great for checking out what you think is an empty flag without having to spend resources.

Re: Tarpan (or other experienced CO's), question

Ok one more question that has been bothering me for a while. How to know what direction is where when the map is pulled up.

My assumptions were

--N--
E---W
--S--

Is this right? I hope it is...

Also, you can quickly change your zoom by hitting 'N'.

Oh the horror, I'm having a flash back into HELL. Guys NEVER EVER NEVER try to teach a woman directions and the concept of a compass. Damn the pain this thread has just made me relive.

for the love of god, don't do this.

i've had way too many experiences with CO's who do nothing but run a scan&spam every thirty seconds. in addition to just being annoying, it makes it hard to hear other commo. i'd rather just be unaware of the enemies and able to hear my squad.

if i command, i only use the spotting function to point out people that aren't likely to be found- i.e. a squad sneaking up behind our lines, or enemies in otherwise safe areas. there's really no need to point out enemies in an already hot zone.

im gonna have to agree with Tarpan because I think it is necessary that the squad knows where the guys are coming from when you cant help with a uav. Either that or i tell them from VOIP where they are and spot like one of the guys

I generally use the spot method, ie tell the SL that the waypoint has tons of baddies and they are coming!

Re: Tarpan (or other experienced CO's), question

dice needs to customize the audio settings. Such as, you can turn off commo rose from a CO and friendlies, but leave it on for squad mates. This would help me alot to know when someone in my squad is actually communicating with me.
