I posted this in the member's only section, then realized that it would be better suited for the entire BF2 community (including the non-supporting members). So here it is.
************************************************** *** So I've been doing a little bit of recon on the BF2 expansion do out this fall, and came across a video interview on Gamespot.com with one of the devs. After watching it, I have to say that I'm a little bit concerned about the direction it might be taking the game. Read on (if interested)... the Battlefield franchise thus far owes its success in large part (in my opinion) to the diversity of vehicles, soldiers, and strategies it brings to the table. The Special Forces expansion, by comparison, seems to be focusing on ground-based "elite" squad combat. While this sort of thing is definitely cool (America's Army, the Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon series), it's not really what BF is about. I'm a bit worried that there will be a significant lack of emphasis on the vehicular and ariel game, which would make this expansion little more than a re-hash of the Tom Clancy games. Don't get me wrong though: there's nothing wrong with those types of games (I own all of them). I'm just having a difficult time seeing how this style is going to fit into the existing BF style of play, without changing the dynamics significantly. Is anyone else concerned about this? Or am I just being stupid? ![]() |

Re: About the upcoming BF2 expansion...
it's a concern, as the original idea for BF2 was to simulate a "battlefield" and not a special forces search and rescue op. however, the expansion is a band aid to people who felt shafted so as such they need it to be different enough from the thrust of the main game to entice new gamers. the thought I"m sure is that those hardcore BF2ers who consider it to infantry-centric will continue to play the original..... I can assure that EA WILL be sure to put in enough vehicles and true battlefield coolness to make even the most hardcore purist want to buy it. but the ad campaigns, I expect, will come off very similar to the splinter cell ones if you remember. with possibly a little snake eating thrown in to bring over the metalgearheads.
Remember this is less an actual expansion than it is the completion of the Bf2 beta that we've all been testing for EA.

Re: About the upcoming BF2 expansion...
Im still confused on how it will all work... will I install the expansion OVERTOP my existing BF2 installation, and then choose which mode I want to play via Desktop icon, all the while keeping my original BF2 disc in my drive? Or will I always launch BF2 and just choose the gameplay type from the lobby system (perhaps with an icon to denote the expansion versus the original).
Or, will it basically act as a completely separate game? Im so confused... and not too pleased that its coming so soon. |
