Great news guys!
One of my favorite gaming accessories, TeamSpeak, has had it's own accessory that has been very handy for some time. Unfortunately, it does not work with BF2... yet. The developer however, has now mentioned that he has fixed the problem and will release a new build once fixing other problems as well! Horray for all BF2 players who use TS!!! Better yet, the last release was out early June, and he made this announcement late June, which means he is possibly very close to the next release date! Just a little FYI so that you can look forward to it as much as I am. Also, for those of you who would like to use this for games other than BF2, here is the list of games it is currently known to be compatable with (as of this posting, it was last updated June 20th 2005). I have personally used it with many games, and have loved it. |

Re: Great News for TeamSpeak users!
This is good. It was one of the things I counted against using TeamSpeak in-game since its hard to tell who's speaking. PLEASE let us know when it becomes available for BF2. I know C-Team would love to have this

Re: Great News for TeamSpeak users!
Now, if someone can come up for a fix of not being able to use in game VOIP while being on TS, I might just buy that man a beer.
Or a cookie. Or a beer cookie.

I run a SB Audigy and I have TS and VOIP mapped for different keys for push to talk and they both work ok. Not sure if it has to do with the sound card or not. Ill take a beer cookie though, never had one of those |

Re: Great News for TeamSpeak users!
I use on-board sound and haven't had any problem using both TS and in-game VOIP. I do make a habit of muting the TS output during gameplay but I un-mute it between rounds.

Re: Great News for TeamSpeak users!
The problem with TSO and BF2 right now is the fact that the overlay (thus, the entire point of TSO) does not work. The fact that Punkbuster is killing it is, actually, something that could be buggy with Punkbuster, but the TSO developer is already aware of it and is trying to work around it as well aparently.
As for why TS and VOIP do not work at the same time, it is a problem with your soundcard (either add-in soundcards or the one built-in on the motherboard). The problem is that it cannot take input from multiple programs simutaniously. This is an old problem that used to occur a LOT with playback as well. People were playing their mp3's and then loading up a game, and were complaining to both the game developers and winamp developers saying that they are broken, when in fact it is just the effects of a cheap soundcard. What's happening is this... Program A decides that it wants to play a sound (a song for instance). While listening to your favorite tunes with Program A, you decide to play a game, Program B. Program B tries to initialize the sound card, the sound card does not recognize this initialization because it is already busy playing the sounds for Program A. Thus, Program B will NEVER get sound until you quit both Program A AND Program B (Quiting Program A alone will not work, as Program B will not have initialized the sound card again). Start Program B up again, and it will work like a champ. Now, *almost* all sound cards these days have fixed this problem with sound playback. However the cheaper ones are still having this problem with sound input. This is what I am betting your problem is. Solution? Get a better sound card... one that costs more than $30-$40. And yes, I am subscribed to the thread in the TSO forums, and will post in this thread as soon as it is available for BF2. I do recomend it for any other games you guys play though, it is very nice... |

Re: Great News for TeamSpeak users!
You sound card must have working direct-sound drivers installed for DirectX based programs to access the hardware in shared buffered mode. Sometimes setting it to 'software' in the BF2 options will cause this problem, also make sure your primary sound driver is not set to 'Wave Driver'.. this is an exclusive-only driver and will cause the same problem.

Re: Great News for TeamSpeak users!
Any chance you could post in one of the general forums too when the update is released? Other gamers here might want to get the latest version even if they don't play BF2.

Re: Great News for TeamSpeak users!
Update:
As I said before, the maker of TSO had fixed the problem where TSO didn't work in BF2, but he quickly found out that PunkBuster would kick you from the game within 5 minutes, so he was working that out before he released a new version of TSO. He has now found, and fixed, the problem that was causing that (he was loading the DirectX 8 dll's as well as the DirectX 9 dll's for all DirectX 9 games. This isn't a problem, unless that DX9 game has punkbuster, and thus, first came noticed with BF2). He says he played BF2 for over an hour with the new fix and it worked perfectly. He posted this info this morning (Aug 20th) so the new release hasn't been released yet, but I think it will be released soon! I for one, can't wait to be able to use this in BF2! |
