Re: TG Should have this rule

While its convienent to have VOIP, to make a rule is a bit much. Some persons may just prefer to play the game, not have to verbally interact with other people. Also, not everyone who is talking over the mic is great to hear, or have insightful things to say. I like to use the mic, but after 10pm I really can't because computer is next to my bed where my wife is sleeping.

IMHO, SL's and CO's should be able to talk. Everyone else should be able to at least hear what others are saying -- i.e. don't play with VOIP completely turned off. If you can't hear the orders you are given, it makes it kinda hard to play as a team I think.

Re: TG Should have this rule

Heya We have actually talked about this one quite a lot, and the general concensus seems to be:

Squad Leaders need VOIP. If you don't have it please don't play SL.

Commanders should also have VOIP. However, a CO without VOIP is better than no CO.

Squad members do not need VOIP. Although it is highly beneficial, as long as they can hear the SL, and use the in game spotting (so that enemy appear on the map) and work with the rest of the squad as a team, then everything is good

Re: TG Should have this rule

Oh no, it's is way waaay better! having your squad able to give quick info really easily and quickly is always much better. However it is not crucial, and it'd be a shame to penalise people that can't / aren't using VOIP. I'd fully encourage it (in fact I hope the amount of chatter I give when in squads will persuade people to buy a mic and join in). However sometimes people can't.

As stated above, my computer is also in my bedroom, and when my gf stays over she always sleeps before I do. Thus I sometimes I hop on to BF2, but I can't use VOIP. I just make sure that I join a squad and don't lead one. It'd be really crappy to have to go to a different server than TG.

It is against TG rules to have VoIP turned off. It must be turned on in your options menu. It is not required that you be able to communicate. Though it is preferred that COs and SLs have a mic.

When your gf stays over, nobody should be playing on a computer, and nobody should be sleeping. You have it all wrong man!

Re: TG Should have this rule

There is usally a MIC only or VOIP squad that you can join if so inclined. If one isn't there just start it and others will join pretty quick.

Re: TG Should have this rule

Just to clarify...

The use of a mic is NOT required according to the rules. The player must have VoIP enabled to at least HEAR the other players. However, we do understand that not all players can have VoIP enabled due to technical and other reasons. If this is the case, please PM an admin as an FYI.

Yeah its a common misconception that a person w/out a headset is not a good squad member. I play without a headset and consider myself quite capable of being an effective sniper (and other kits when needed) using the built in comms channels and typing. I can do all the things someone else w/ a mic does its just not with my voice. It took a little practice but i'm very comfortable operating in a squad w/out my mic.

I've had zero problems w/ any of my usual SL's (many who are admins here) playing without a mic. To make it an absolute requirement to me is unnecessary.

As long as you have VoIP turned on so you can hear your squad leader, then you are fine. That is all TG requires.

Re: TG Should have this rule

Just to illustrate a case in point, Robocop and EvilLemon are two of the best players on these servers, and I've never heard either of their voices.
