learning to fly heli with sidewinder joystick

am not sure if this is where to ask or not..but...

why the hell can't i get the heli off the ground using this joystick..???

it is calibrated, it works in everything else..but i throttle up, the damn heli just sets there....!

what am i doing wrong...i grab the mouse and keyboard stuff and off it goes, to crash...but..i cannot imagine what i am screwing up...

anyone wanna tell my n00b self what the problem might be?

and why do the chainguns on the BH suck so bad? last night was the first time i gunned on the BH for Beatnik, and i was just laying into the enemy cobra or whatever the attack heli is on the MEC side and i was pouring lead into this thing from almost point-blank, and it did not do a damn thing! i could have jumped out and knifed the stoopid thing and gotten more damage..!

Is this an MS sidewinder Pro?

You need to go into the control options and set each axis of movement to the stick. That equates to

Roll
Pitch
Yaw
Throttle

Make sure that if you click on roll right, to make your input in that direction. YAW is actually mis-labelled "turn left/right"

Re: learning to fly heli with sidewinder joystick

ahh....! i will give it a shot when i get home tonite..!

thank you sir..! i just got this box runnin, and this is the first time i have dealt with a joystick in XP...the old box was runnin 98SE..and i don't think i had to set up the joystick in like 5-7 years..!!! hahahaha

thank you!

another question...

yaw = front/back on the stick
roll = left/right on the stick
throttle is the slider thingy...

what the hell do you set pitch/collective to..? to actually go up/down..?
and twisting would be for the rudder left/right...

The collective and the throttle are synonymous in BF2. As for getting your joystick to work, make sure you have it configured for the helicopter under controls in BF2, i forgot to do this and ended up crashing a helo because the joystick didnt do anything.

Your BH minigun didn't do much to the attack chopper because the rounds are too weak to penetrate an attack choppers armor effectively. After some time you can take down an APC, but it is really only effective against infantry and light vehicles.
