How do you choose a squad to join?

Just curious: when you first arrive in a TG server, how do you choose which squad to join? Do you look at:

name (custom -- VOICECOMM or TEAMWORK vs. ALPHA, BRAVO, etc.)
squad size (only nearly full squads, never 1 player squads, etc.)
squad leader/members (looking for someone you recognize?)
etc.

Or what?

I look at the make up of the squads. I generally avoid air squads and look to place myself where I would be the most useful. Usually I just make a squad though.

Re: How do you choose a squad to join?

I'll first look for a familiar squad name. After that I'd drop down each squad and look for a leader/squad members that I know. And finally, I'll join a random squad, and if the SL doesn't seem to communicate within the first few minutes I'll go looking for another squad....or if I know I'll have some time, I create my own. Problem is, I rarely know how much time I'll have in game, so I rarely lead.

The one with as many |TG| or |TG-xx| in it

Also there are quite a few non-TG tag wearing TG'ers I'll gladly join with... Tarp, B, Ironclaw, etc

Basically the people who have shown to play in the spirit of TG.

Re: How do you choose a squad to join?

I look for TG & TG-42nd tags first, the squad that is open with the mostest I join.

Otherwise, I start a 42nd squad and invite players in.

Re: How do you choose a squad to join?

I usually avoid air squads as well, since I'm only an average pilot.

I'll check the squad to see who's in it, because I have a short mental list of regulars who have VOIP capability. I'll also try and join the squad with the most regulars and people with |TG| in their title. TG regulars are more likely to have VOIP and/or work as a team, in my experience.

Named squads don't attract me as much as others, I guess. You can call the squad whatever you want, but if the members aren't working together and talking, it's just not as much fun for me.

That said, if you join the "Gnosis" squad, you'll get a squad leader with VOIP who's doing his best to win the fight, whether that means capturing flags, defending flags, or sabotaging enemy assets. It ALWAYS means working as a team, though.

Re: How do you choose a squad to join?

I usually look at the largest squad with an opening and then see what kit they need. Within a few minutes you figure out whether your SL is leading or just playing solo and likes to hear the commander, or be a pal and give you another spawn point. If that's the case, I jump to the next squad down. I always seem to have good luck on clan servers if I join the squad with the clan members in it. If they're a good clan, they welcome the extra guy and work together. The bad clans have there squads locked so I just change servers then.

Re: How do you choose a squad to join?

All the above.
If it's a map with Jets and they don't appear to be in use - I'll be making a VMFA-531 squad and putting those assets at the disposal of the Commander, and probably whining about how the SL of squad 3 needs to stop taking the bomber, and spamming "ne1 wanna gun b0mbz0r, join my squad for teh win + mad TKs".

Otherwise, all the above.

Re: How do you choose a squad to join?

I look for familiar faces, guys I know are skilled and are friendly and someone I've known in previous games as a good squad leader. If none of those factors are met I look for someone using voip. Most of the times it seems all the good squads are filled when I'm getting started (which is usually in primetime 1030pmEST) and I end up having to start my own squad. I don't mind being squad leader but I know there are many others who do a better job at it.

Re: How do you choose a squad to join?

First I'll look for well-known SL's such as Tarpan or Wulfyn(sucks for them!). Failing that, just look for a 5/6 squad and dive in.
