Re: I Want Blood Effects!

Eh, there's enough blood in games today. Don't get me wrong- I'm not against games being bloody and such. I just don't see any reason to add it if it doesn't come stock.

Is seeing a blood stain on the ground that will disappear 10sec later going to improve the game that much? In my opinion, no. Does anyone really even notice it past the first few times they see and and go "wow, blood"? No.

Hah, I was going to agree with you but then you mentioned blood trails. If you got rid of the one screen kill indicators it would be pretty cool. Did you kill that guy or did he make it around the corner? No body there when you go to check it out but look, a blood trail!

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

id like to see bloodspurts because its the best way to confirm if youve hit someone instead of the little X on the crosshair, nothing that really worries me, itll be in teh PR mod when it comes out.

I agree. I'll go one step further, give me great gameplay over gore anyday. Hell, it took me about 3 weeks to notice there wasn't any blood anyway

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

Yeah, its a little bit of realism that would spice up the game....too much blood in games? There is NO blood in this game. A WAR GAME WITHOUT BLOOD. Seems ridiculous as I type that that its even true. Blood spurts and blood spills that last as long as the body is alive/re-spawned would be nice. Would be nice if they had blood in the section of the body that you hit....I would like that.

Saying theres too much blood seems funny, its like saying when a tank or an apc is bout to blow...there is too much SMOKE! LESS SMOKE! or when a body flies in the air or falls to the ground and lies there...there is too much DEATH! you know its like saying there is too much AIR! Its reality. How can you have too much reality? Im not asking for giblets to be splayed on the ground (not opposed to it) but just a representation of blood would be appreciated....

So, Games have too much blood? I think games are too Comical as they are. Too much cartoonishness....tooo ridiculously fake; thats my opinion.

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a mod where actual limbs come off and charred bodies after explosions and such....but yea, blood would be a plus and a step in the right directions...

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

Didn't the original BF1942 ship with no blood effects? I think so... I'd like to see the blood, just because it gives you a bit more visual info of a solid hit (especially the headshots) than the yellow x. Maybe not the level of the Merciless mod for 1942, but definitely some.

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

Games are fake for a reason. They're supposed to be enjoyed and fun. If you want to see limbs blown off and charred flesh I heartily recommend joining the military. Or better yet, go work with the peace corps for a little while in central asia and you can see all the kids who've had their bodies torn from limb to limb because the Russians thought mining the caucauses would help prevent NATO invasions.

I think the desire for blood and guts is the result of ultra-high testosterone levels in the blood caused by puberty. It'll wear off. I remember soldier of fortune, great amounts of blood and goo, then I realized the game sucked. Give me a game that's fun any day.

It's not about the rating, or about being more realistic or anything else. Most vets will tell you that they never see blood when they shoot, just the guy fall down. Men aren't really capable of allowing themselves to see blood because most people aren't psychopaths or sociopaths. That means they have remorse when they kill someone. As it should be.

Once again I state that if you think games are too cartoonish, then you join the military and go play with the big boys. Give reality a try, in reality you don't respawn.

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

MarioKart is fake for a reason, its for small children.

See. This game is already fun, blood wouldnt spoil that.

If you are going to be moral about blood and remorse, then I recommend you play MarioKart. War games arent for the feint of heart. Its simulated killing. I don't need to ask a Vet what he's seen, I can download the video of it on the internet and see for myself what it looks like...and yes, you do see blood....large amounts of it; depending where the hit is.

But, what i really want is not the "reality blood", where a gallon of blood flows out of a half ripped off head etc...I want a more NC-17/R rated version where there is full on blood but giblets and charred bodies/pieces are there but maybe very subtle or not there.

A bullet hole in and blood on the ground..and blood spray and soaking on the part of the body that is hit. I dont need to see the gaping flesh wound out the backside of the body or the giblets or charring....not opposed to it, but since I know that the modding community is limited my expectations are low.

CAN this even be a mod? Is modding these effects possible.?

I'd like to see a guy's head disappear when you get a headshot with a sniper rifle from a long distance.. Heh, it'd amuse me and have quite a psychological effect on his teammates One moment, the guy is there firing away or whatever, next minute you look over and he's missing his head.

http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthrea...ighlight=blood - that mod mentions blood effects, no idea to what extent.

... Or when tank ran over people, bodies can "pop" with blood squirting all over the place. Just imagine how graphic when artillery kills over 15 people in one spot...

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

Nah, seems like a waste of time to me. It doesn't really add anything important. I would rather have new maps or vehicles so long as they are balanced well. I couldn't care less for blood. When I first played HL2 and CS:S I thought the blood splatter was really sweet but I later realized it really didn't add much to the game. Its not a simulation, its an arcade game.

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

I'm sure the effects are possible, but would strain your computer even further. Saying that in general, by the way. More effects always means higher requirements.

As for me, "too much blood" is also another general statement. Really, when I saw the improved blood in CS:S, I went "Whoa, look at that!"... about twice. Then it became boring/old/commonplace, and, frankly, downright unnoticable because I have better things to look at. I'd rather see better gameplay than worry about if there's blood in a combat game.

Re: I Want Blood Effects!

Only legitimate reason for gore and such in games:

Immersion - The all important, all powerfull state of "living" the game.

How much does gore help immersion?...Very little.
In truth the amount of work required to balance the effect such that it doesn't *detract* from immersion is almost never worth it.
- A large multicolored decal such as a gore "splatter" can often be prone to graphical errors which can be hard to track down due to difficulties in recreating scenarios.
- The effects need to be readily visible yet not over the top to garner a "wow" effect without breaking immersion. (And as mentioned above, that "wow" doesn't last long...really just enough to sell the game to an onlooker, it's no good for longterm playing.)
- Keeping all the effects around long enough to not look silly as they dissappear can be taxing on system resources.

Basically, if the intention is to increase immersion through better in-game shot->hit effects then a good IK physics system (localized on character skeletons) would be far better. It might take minorly more CPU cycles, but should also use vastly less RAM over time. As an added bonus you could potentially force the wounded player's camera and movement to react to the hit. This "knock and recovery" on the recieving player's end could help to increase immersion on their side as well. (However, as a game and not a simulation this last effect would need to be tested for game balance over the recieving player's view/movement realism.)

* As for that Mario Kart comment up there, that is exactly the kind of testosterone based thinking that someone else hinted at. All games are just interactive simulations of one thing or another. They all have a purpose too, and that purpose is usually entertainment. In this regard Mario Kart and BF2 are exactly the same. Sure you can categorize them into genres and companies generally have target demographics in mind as well, but in the end they are all just mental toys put out for people to enjoy. All people any age race and sex can enjoy any game at all and the attitude that this game is "just for little kids" is only going to hurt yourself by limiting your options. =/

"In games you can explore the world and the worlds of others. Through games you can explore your mind."
- Reflect on the games you play and how you played them just as you might reflect on your workday, they are more similar than you may think. ;P
