Angry So Many Noobs!

everybody has been a noob at one time or another. but today playing from 1-4ish central time there was just TOO many! we had locked squads with 4 people in them, vertical capping, bunny hopping, ucb camping suicide bombing (transport choppers into the ground), people that weren't in the helo squad taking off solo in an attack chopper, CO's with no mic... we had it ALL

we had 5 squads with 1 person in them, and the other squad had 4 and was locked (it wasn't an air squad, just some random squad) when i joined in and it was atrocious. i can't remember a game where i heard less of the commander ever. we were jumping around from flag to flag, capping one and completely abandoning another over and over. often there would be a squad ahead of us doing the exact same thing or vice versa. i kept asking to go defensive and he shot back the canned "negative" and when we stayed at a base for even a few seconds, we would get reprimanded from the CO.

it just seemed like an endless spiral of moral, having to tell my squad over and over "im sorry we have to move on, but they are orders, and i can't even talk with the CO except using the kb and mouse"

sorry for the rant, i just had to get it out of my system.

Re: So Many Noobs!

no problem, but more constructive would be to take names and PM an admin

(by the way some things like vertical capping are not against server rules, it's just a few of us have agreed not to do it. of course other things like bunny hopping/crack jumping are).

Oh dear, well we've all had it at one point, best thing to do is sit back and laugh it off.
Seems an overload of Noobs stopped a succesfull round by the sound of it. On the rare occations it happens, all you need to do is hang in there and remember what it's normally like.

Re: So Many Noobs!

You know, I really think this needs to be addressed just as in Apophis post in after action reports, because I don't know why its happening, but it isn't just "noobs" its pubbies that don't care for this style of gameplay and it is killing my experience here. It has just been in the last week that this began happening, so there must be some reason for it. Maybe get more private server stuff going on for SM's?

Re: So Many Noobs!

The best thing we (SM's and reg's alike) can do is to calmly tell them the things they are doing are against the rules, and grounds for being removed from the server (note the key non-aggressive wording). Also, directing them to the website in the same message seems to calm a lot of them down. As common sense would dictate, you do better being nice and explaining the "rules" than by name calling, bitching, complaining etc.
(That last sentence was not pointed at anyone in particular, just my gift for stating the obvious!)

Re: So Many Noobs!

I think it's very important to write down those names and report. This community is dependant on rules, and rules are dependant on enforcing them.

(forgive my english)

Edit:
And I totally agree with the post above me, those people are completely unaware they are on a server with rules/etiquette. They are just playing their game in their usual style.
I'd say explain what server they are on, and politely kick them .

Re: So Many Noobs!

Is it only me, or is the server too laggy today? I couldn't even point my gun in the right direction. I had to quit after only a few minutes of playing. But maybe it's just my comp, any idea?

That's the proper SOP, by the way.

Your post was closed, but we can still read it. There isn't any reason to hijack a thread and repost this. It's just being assinine. Take care of it with Wyzcrack and Apophis.

As to the thread topic- I agree with the spirit of the statement, but there are ways to take care of this. Get an admin. Write down names and send them to an admin by PM if there isn't one on. Obviously you need corroboration, so it can't be just one person doing this. If the community expects its standards to be enforced then it needs to take an active role into policing itself and the people visiting the servers we love.

Incidentally, several of the things you've listed aren't against the rules but are simply tacky. As far as the CO without a mic goes, did he apply to be the CO in the beginning or did he step in halfway through the round? If you don't know, maybe you should be happy to have a CO at all. I've stepped up to be the CO before (and everyone who's played with me knows that my mic is the king of futz) and done an effective job, you just have to be willing to communicate using other means. I'm also a fast typer though.

It kind of irritates me when people allsay that something is against the rules (like IVC) when it isn't. If it's against the rules then please, by all means tell them, I usually accompany it with a "if you don't know the rules read them at www.tacticalgamer.com" but that's your choice. But telling people something is against the rules when it really isn't, is the sure fire way to make me respond that it isn't. I think enforcing the rules is important, but to enforce the rules the rules have to be clear. They're currently perfectly clear and listed on the website, some of the regs should refamiliarize themselves with them occasionally as well (I know I've had to), but if we start getting into personal opinion about what's fair and what isn't we eliminate the point of the rules-to establish a clear and fair standard on which all players may be judged. I hope everyone can see my point, and not take it personally when I contradict you if you say the rules incorrectly. This isn't directed towards anyone in particular, it just seemed like a good place to post this.

I can totally agree with you. It was the first time a saw a total noob playing on TG #1 and nobody doing anything about it. He was SL for a full squad but gave no orders, took vehicles driving solo with them, no mic communication - nothing. It was quite frustrating. I tried a couple of times talk to him but he wouldn't respond.

I changed to an other squad and then suddenly he became commander of our team - again driving solo in a car. At that time I was SL for the squad and he did not respond to me in any way.

I trylu hope this kind of action will not be more common on the TG servers...

Re: So Many Noobs!

I hope not either, but it is a case of the community supporting the community. If people are not working as a team (like being a CO that gives no orders) then they are breaking the teamplay rules we have here, which is what stands us apart from normal public servers.

The best thing to do in this situation is to explain to the person in question that there are additional rules here about teamplay, and explain what they are. Do this in a calm neutral manner over VOIP and text. (If you see this appear don't just join in as this will initimidate and annoy the person who is being informed). If they refuse to co-operate then inform them that the admins here take a dim view on people who aren't playing as a team, and that for everyone's sake they should visit the forums here to read the rules in full (and thus they can decide for themselves if this is the sort of place they want to play).

If this does not help then you do have the option of initiating a kick vote / mutiny vote. Also see if there is an admin on TS (even if you are not there might be someone on the server who is) to help out, and if there is not then PM just one of the admins with the situation.

Like Asch said ages ago, the best thing to do is try and educate them to the style of play we have here, and only if that fails should we need to step in.

Re: So Many Noobs!

It seems that many of the good players are not out there at all anymore? Of course they are still out there and playing, but the is an overepresentation of players who just join a squad to avoid getting kicked. When I joined in june I had the greatest battles of my life, with execellent SL and CO´s...but these says are gone?? In the past week I have played for 30 minutes to 1 hours and become very frustrated. People just toy around and SL's are unresponsive and do do not give any orders. Most players cooperate less than the bots in the singleplayer game. I am really confused and sad, because BF2 is best game ever and TG community & rules are the best ever too. So why are there SO many noobs on the server now??
