possible solution to educate noob pubbys
Hello,
I'm a pubby, I believe a well behaved pubby, and I've played here exclusively since first finding TG right after BF2 came out. There has definitely been an influx of new players, most of which don't seem to know about or care about the rules that TG servers go by. When the servers are unlocked it's easy for joeblow to join and act like an idiot just as if this is any other server. Trying to tell most of them in game to come here and read the rules is wasted energy. The point is that these servers are special, and this community is special. Special enough to protect. On the other hand, this community has a great policy of openly accepting newcomers like me. The solution I propose to make everybody happy is this; Keep a server, or both servers passworded all or most of time. (more than now at least) Make a new password often and give out it's location as it's done now, however; Make it so that to get the password you have to read some compact, but to the point rules and regulations and register for the forums if not done already. This will also serve to update existing regulars to newly added rules etc... This forces everybody to read and understand the rules and accepted behavior. This also helps to keep the random, no rule abiding, not educated about TG rules, joeblow out of the servers unless they put in the effort to register and *READ* the rules. The true losers will simply go elsewhere. While the people like me that want teamplay, tactics and a great community will be glad to read and follow some simple rules to get the password. Just my opinion, though I believe a process *similar* to what I've outlined will help alot in weeding out the losers but still maintaining growth of quality newcomers. See everybody on the password server tomorrow! |

I think its a good idea. Only thing i could see wrong with it is that we might lose the influx of new players because the un-passworded server would be practically empty, and if it had people in it itd hardly have any TG guys to at least keep it to acceptable TG standards. Maybe test it for a week and see if that happens?

The servers are full / almost full on evenings (I think, haven't played much this week and last week, except for monday). Lot's of regulars too. It's not like we really need to advertise anymore, word of mouth should be good enough.

The problem is that the number of SMs still doesn't match the expenditures that the community requires. So we do still need advertising, for the possibility that some of those new players may be able to be SMs and help defray server costs, etc.

Re: possible solution to educate noob pubbys
tbh it sounds like a good idea but in the long run it will be quite damaging as alot of potensial players simply wont take the time to come here and find out about TG, from the outside world tactical gamer is nothing more than another server, of course for us its the apitamy of gold in a sea of copper, but other pubbies wont realise untill they play and find out, and a password will just restrict that. imho

Re: possible solution to educate noob pubbys
i dont know if its a great idea, maybe if you had the 32 always unlocked then kept the 64 always locked. and have it so the description of TG, you know when the game is loading and it says "folow orders blah blah blah" if you added on "TG also has a 64 person server, if your interested in playing get on the TG forums and start posting or PM an admin about what you can do to play on the 64 person server" something along those lines, that way when the 64 is full you have people both TG and non tg playing on the unlocked, people who play on TG slowly learn the ways of the server. i learned many things about the TG server through making a mistake and being corrected.

Re: possible solution to educate noob pubbys
This has been brought up numerous times and the admins still believe it is in our best interest to keep the servers open. Their response to our requests was to make two official password nights. You can thank my tireless determination for that
![]() Another proposition I made the other day can be found here: Forum Member Kick Ability I believe this to be a good compromise between giving the TG community excellent game play on the servers and giving people who don't know about us a chance to join and see what we're about. Check it out, if you haven't.
