CO making formations
As a CO one of the problems you run into is the lack of squads.
In most 64 player maps, 8 or 9 squads is ideal, you can defend and attack and really work out a plan. But it's unmanagable to go from 5 squads of 6, to, say: 3 of 2, 4 of 3, and 2 of 6. It would take you all game to make such a formation. My question is: Is there a way to mod it in, that the CO can form the squads as he wants them, by for instance drag and drop names, or making some kind of bleuprint with predifined empty squads? |

Re: CO making formations
I don't know about the CO, but a SL level "squad blueprint" would be awesome. No more worrying about whether to lock your squad or not for your chosen/given role. And kit assignments could be vastly improved this way. Instead of having to verbally ask folks to take certain kits and have to have them remember, you could set which and how many of each kit you want your squad made up of.
- A little "paperclip" could pop up on your death and go: "I see you are trying to pick a kit...Would you like to pick one that your SL wants and make him like you? Medic (1) Engineer (1) Anti-Tank (2)" ;P [edit] I also like my above example because I feel it would help filter people into the roles that they are most comfortable with while still being useful for the squad at that time.

Re: CO making formations
Squad Blueprints would be a good idea. It always happens that when you join a squad and jump in the game I hear, "hey can you come in as ____" when i am already in.. It must be a pain for the SL. Something on the outside would make things a lot easier.

Re: CO making formations
The replies have more mentioned kits on people picking rather than squad size and number of squads, but this is what you're more going for, correct? I think that's being a little TOO dictating on how you want people to play this game. Being in a squad is fun, yes. I don't really enjoy squads of 3 people though (granted I'd prefer to be in a squad of 3 enjoyable players than 6 asshats). A good squad should be self suffucient but how self suffucient can a squad of 3 people make? To me thats not as much of a squad but more of a fire team.

Re: CO making formations
The trouble is, currently at this server we see mostly 6 men squads. Thats 4 infantry squads and 1 air squad. In a map like Sharqi Peninsula you will have to defend 6 flags.
You won't have enough squads to defend them all. Plus, a CO has much more control over the battle if he has 9 squads, then 5. But I kinda agree with you that a blueprint would be to dictating, it should be made easier for the CO the make changes in the squad though. |

Re: CO making formations
The only problem I have with splitting the larger squads is that it is really hard to send one squad on an objective with only 2 or three people without feeling like im asking them to die. So either way, I end up sending two small squads instead of one. I would rather have 5 large full squads then 9 small ones. But thats a personal CO opinion.

Re: CO making formations
As a regular SL now, I would much prefer to always have a full squad, and then split my squad into fireteams tasked with holding 2 objects. If a CO finds they need finer granularity then that provided by full squads, please be sure to communicate to a SL that you need them to try and hold 2 points near each other.
Also always remember you don't HAVE to take all the flags on a map just because they are there. It is far better to have your teams setup defensive positions and inflict casualties then to play whack-a-mole trying to get that last enemy flag.
